Chapter 402 Information about Hydra
After Peter went to the restroom next door and came back, he asked Nick Fury a question that he had been thinking about but couldn't answer since the beginning: "I've been thinking about something, is this a temporary rental of this place, or is it also a SHIELD outpost? After all, you know, it's just a very ordinary... restaurant."

"Unfortunately, this really is a S.H.I.E.L.D. base. We have all sorts of bases: barbershops, small restaurants, bookstores. You're lucky you're here, so I don't need to send you another message to make you come over."

Fury was still turning the Rubik's Cube inside his hand.

"I thought it wouldn't be you coming in person. After all, you know, S.H.I.E.L.D. should theoretically have a lot of work to do."

"Life Imitation Device, or LMD for short, you should be very familiar with it. Some of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s elite agents apply to replace their family members or themselves with LMDs for the safety of their families. If you need it, I can also provide your family with a similar device so they can stay in your home in Queens. Your real family can hide elsewhere, just like the Spider-Woman agents."

This was the first time Peter had heard any updates about Cindy's family. Apart from a family photo that was part of a Christmas gift he received, he hadn't heard much about the Mu En family. Now he learned that the Mu En family had moved away, and that apart from Cindy, only LMD androids were living there.

Does that mean Cindy is living with a bunch of androids?
Before Peter could think further, Nick Fury interrupted him: "Then, it's about the Elementals. Several highly trained S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have infiltrated their vicinity and gathered relevant intelligence. The person known so far behind the Elementals is actually Arnim Zola. Do you know him?"

Peter glanced around nervously, then heard Fury's explanation: "Don't worry, the whole room is sealed off. All electronic devices are disabled, and no signals can be transmitted. To eavesdrop, you'd need a real person present, and I have Spider-Man."

Peter breathed a sigh of relief, but then something immediately occurred to him: Fury had just mentioned the LMD and said that no electronic devices could function here. Didn't that mean that Fury in New York, like Spider-Man in New York, was actually an LMD?

Is the Nick Fury in front of me the real person?
"I know that the famous scientist from Hydra became a U.S. citizen after the war due to Project Paperclip, thus avoiding trial by the International Criminal Court. Now it's been discovered that he's also from Hydra?"

"Yes, without a doubt. It's clear that Project Paperclip was not a good idea. Back then, in order to gain a greater technological advantage in the post-war new order, the United States used Soviet ideology and American preferential policies to intimidate and attract a large number of scientists from the Third Reich, a considerable portion of whom were former members of Hydra. But they did not repent; instead, they became part of us."

As Fury spoke, he placed the Rubik's Cube on the table and removed his leg: "Of course, or perhaps the United States wasn't exactly a good person to begin with, and the two sides hit it off immediately. In this regard, S.H.I.E.L.D. was initially rather passive because its predecessor, the Science Strategy Office, was an organization specifically designed to deal with Hydra. It had gathered the most elite talents from the entire Allied forces, and we didn't really care about ordinary Hydra scientists."

“Generally speaking, I guess Anim Zola is not the general one.”

Peter's words were confirmed by Nick Fury. Arnim Zola had two advantages over other Hydra scientists. First, he was arrested by the Allies much earlier and cooperated remarkably well, providing a wealth of Hydra military and technological intelligence, gradually gaining their trust. Second, he was indeed an exceptionally talented scientist; much of Hydra's technology, even the research on the Tesseract, was spearheaded by Zola. This was why S.H.I.E.L.D. initially recruited him as a "reformed" scientist, never imagining he would remain a Hydra man for life.

This old man really taught Fury a lesson in what it means to "cut off one head and grow two."

"I now suspect that the Third Reich was just another parasitic target of Hydra. When they find a powerful opponent, they choose to surrender, infiltrate the other party's ranks, and then ruthlessly exploit all of the other party's resources to grow stronger. The Third Reich did this, the Soviet Union did this, and the United States did the same. Hydra's existence may be even older and more terrifying."

In terms of combat power, Hydra has never been the most terrifying opponent they have faced. The "Thanos" from the universe brought by the Guardians of the Galaxy and his Chitauri army, the Kree and Skrull empires introduced by Captain Marvel, and even Thor's Asgard are all more powerful than Hydra.

However, Hydra's greatest danger lies in its deep roots within S.H.I.E.L.D. and even the entire nation. They are gradually corrupting the country, attempting to usurp its power and ultimately establish their own order. The unknown is what is truly terrifying, but if everything you encounter that seems familiar is actually unknown, merely another entity in disguise, then the problem becomes even more frightening.

Especially after Nick Fury discovered that Zola was still alive, he realized that something was very wrong. Hydra had actually found a way to revive Zola and keep him alive in the 1970s from within S.H.I.E.L.D.

Does that mean S.H.I.E.L.D. is basically untrustworthy?
Starting from the 1970s, Fury began to examine his superior, Alexander Pierce, the chairman of the World Security Council, wondering if he was also a Hydra.
Peter nodded, then asked in return, "So what do you intend for me to do?"

"As always, draw attention. I'm pretty sure Zola is figuring out how to deal with you, and the Elementals will choose to deal with you next. Be careful, they've replaced the Molten Man with Jim Hammond, and the Elementals still consist of four people."

Peter frowned, feeling somewhat confused. Why was Zola targeting him? Shouldn't it be the other way around, with him actually helping the Wild Chapter fight the Elementals?

After a moment of silence, Nick Fury gave Peter an answer.

"Because you are Richard Parker's son, Spider-Man, I don't know what Richard finally found in Europe, but there is no doubt that this discovery terrified Hydra."
