Chapter 391 The Sandmen Attack
Chapter 391 The Sandmen Attack
"Boss, the Sandmen have landed in Lisbon."
"Damn Americans, all they do is cause trouble!"
Silvia started grumbling. The Sandmen's arrival in Lisbon was completely unreasonable. Why? Because Lisbon didn't have any bases for weapons expansion projects or any scientists they needed. That alone was enough to explain why the Sandmen shouldn't have come to Lisbon. If that was the case, the Sandmen, who should have been in Madrid, must have appeared in Lisbon for some other reason.
What's the reason? Without a doubt, it's Spider-Man and his crew.
The Wild Band is definitely not to blame, because Sylvia didn't know an Avenger had arrived until yesterday; otherwise, she wouldn't have disregarded Fury's orders. However, S.H.I.E.L.D. certainly knew Spider-Man was in Europe. Given that, isn't it obvious where the information leaked from?
No, it's very likely that old man Bitden, Fury, did it on purpose. His goal is probably to catch the mole and see who might be colluding with the group behind the weapons expansion program. As for the Wild Chapter? They're just an add-on.
Then I'll show you who's just an extra!
"Pass the order: everyone put on your protective suits, board the plane, and prepare for battle."
"But boss, we didn't have a contingency plan—"
“Who said there was no contingency plan?” Sylvia glared at her subordinate. “Let’s go immediately. I have a contingency plan.”
"Yes!"
-
Putting aside the Wild Chapter's contingency plan, let's get back to Peter's side. After Sandman perfectly demonstrated to Peter from a physical perspective that "I am the approaching storm," he swiftly swung his web towards the direction of the sandstorm. The storm seemed to have spotted him as well, and they were heading in opposite directions.
Soon, the two sides met in the sky above the old town. Countless fine sands enveloped Peter. System analysis showed that these sands came from nearby beaches or crushed walls and had nothing to do with the desert or sandy land.
As for how the sand was controlled, the system is still analyzing it. Peter handed the project over to Ultron. Regardless of whether Ultron will rebel later, he hasn't yet, so why not take advantage of free labor?
"Hey, hello, can you hear me?" Peter waved repeatedly at the face in the dust. "I want to ask, did you ask Hollywood for permission to do this? I remember there was a similar character in the Mummy movie, how much did you pay them for the copyright?"
As the air twisted, Peter saw countless grains of sand fall from the sandstorm and coalesce into a man wearing a black and green striped shirt, almost the classic image of a sandman, except that he also had a full beard.
"Spider-Man, I know you. You've defeated many people."
"But you're different? Believe me, many people have said that."
"No, what I want to say is that I'm here to test whether you truly deserve the title, and to see if you are, as they say, the best result of the weapons expansion program so far."
"Them?" Peter raised an eyebrow, then asked, "Who are you talking about? Are they famous? Could you leave your contact information so I can get in touch with them? Or at least your email address. And your next sentence is, 'You've already lost, Spider-Man!'"
"You've already lost, Spider-Man!" Sandman exclaimed, utterly bewildered. Peter, who had used this joke twice before, was quite amused. Tiny electric currents emanated from Sandman's body, attracting all the sand grains and rendering him unable to control himself. Then, venom coated Sandman's body, consuming all the sand before spitting it out. Sandman stared at Spider-Man in astonishment, his expression suddenly turning serious.
He finally started to take this opponent seriously.
So Sandman raised his fist and instantly used a large amount of sand to make it bigger than Spider-Man's entire body. He immediately swung it down at Spider-Man, but his huge fist was quickly caught. Four mechanical claws extended from behind Spider-Man, clamped down on Sandman's fist, and released a powerful electric current. The intense heat from the current instantly burned Sandman's entire fist into glass, which was then shattered by Peter's punch.
"Any other tricks? You already know that your sand can't control me, or that your fists can't beat me, so what else do you have?"
The Sandman's face was serious. One Sandman after another split off from his body, preparing to do something. A whooshing sound from the sky attracted the attention of the two men. Peter looked up and caught the Sandman's punch.
Did he see a jet plane with rotors on its wings?
The eyes of the spider mask widened suddenly, and with a series of explosion-like sounds coming from the plane, both of them could see white mist appearing in the sky and the clouds beginning to thicken.
"Artificial rainmaking, I bet you hate that stuff, right?"
Along with Spider-Man's words came paratroopers descending from the sky. They spread their wingsuits and descended rapidly. Their daring surprised even Peter, considering that there was a sandstorm all around. Weren't these people afraid that sand would get into their equipment and they would be controlled by Sandman?
Ultron gave Peter the answer.
Its equipment features an electrically driven shield system, which has the same effect as your use of bioelectricity for protection.
As these special forces soldiers descended, they sprayed something simultaneously, and with this spraying, the Sandmen's control over the sand visibly decreased. Peter watched all this with great interest; it seemed Sylvia was right yesterday—the Wild Chapter had indeed prepared for the elementalists' encirclement and annihilation, and had done thorough research and contingency planning long ago.
So what exactly was the point of Nick Fury sending them over? That's getting more and more intriguing.
Sylvia landed swiftly beside Spider-Man, clad in a silver-white special forces suit. Before landing, she used her rocket pack to cushion her impact while continuously firing at Sandman. The moment the bullets struck Sandman, his body began to disintegrate, turning into a pile of sand.
“He’s gone,” Sylvia said bluntly. “This certainly isn’t all his sand; those guys are cunning.”
"So, you have a way to deal with the elementals, but you haven't told us?"
“Because we haven’t reached the pre-battle deployment stage yet, who knows if they’ll try to ambush you,” Sylvia explained as she put away her two pistols. “It’s clear you’ve put pressure on the people behind them, Spider-Man.”
