I'm working on Marvel's Spider-Man in American comics.
Chapter 229: A Brief Account of Daily Life
Chapter 229: A Brief Account of Daily Life
After the battle, most of the Avengers had to deal with the aftermath, but some had to do other things. For example, Peter, who was hiding his identity, needed to go home first to let Aunt May and Uncle Ben know that he was safe.
"Okay, Aunt Mei, I'll be right back. Don't worry, I'm fine."
After comforting Aunt May over the phone, Peter used his webs to get back to Parker's house in Queens as quickly as possible, but not too fast; he had to time it precisely. In the end, he arrived at Parker's house almost exactly at the theoretical arrival time of an ordinary person like Peter Parker and opened the door with his key.
He could hear hurried footsteps rushing over the moment the lock turned. He opened the door, and Aunt Mei rushed over and hugged him.
"I'm fine, Mei. Didn't I tell you on the phone?"
"Who knows if you've been injured or something happened to you that you're not telling me?"
Peter, helplessly held by Aunt May, looked at Uncle Ben and Gwen behind him, who were laughing, and gave them a pleading look. Uncle Ben walked over and patted Aunt May on the back: "I told you, Peter is a man of the Parker family, he'll be fine."
"If I've learned anything since marrying into the Parker family, it's that when the men in the Parker family say 'nothing will happen,' they're lying." Aunt May finally released Peter, rolled her eyes at Uncle Ben who was blatantly lying, and Uncle Ben smiled helplessly. After letting go of Peter, Aunt May couldn't help but cover her nose.
"Oh my god, Peter, you smell awful..."
"You know, I haven't showered since last night, and I even had to run away for a while. Then today I got stuck to those things for a few minutes."
"You've been stuck to an alien monster?!"
“Yes, just a few minutes.” Peter nodded helplessly. Aunt May frowned, looking at him with displeasure: “No wonder you smell so bad. You need to take a shower now, now!”
Peter could only nod, put down his backpack, and then went upstairs to get his clothes before taking a shower. During the shower, Venom complained.
I don't smell bad at all.
"Yeah, I was just trying to fool Aunt May. Hey buddy, how's Nar?"
"Nar has disappeared."
"?"
Peter frowned, genuinely confused. What did it mean that Nar had disappeared?
Grendel has never coexisted with any other organisms, and it doesn't actually have a code of law. Oh, we succeeded, don't worry.
For a moment, Peter genuinely thought he had failed and that Nar had actually been resurrected, but after hearing Venom's words, he tentatively asked, "Are you sure?"
Yes, I can feel Grendel's power flowing within me.
"So that's why you can walk through walls and conjure weapons and wings. But that doesn't make sense. Why don't you have resistance to riots? It doesn't seem like you can transform into a giant dragon like that."
Because you rejected my power.
In that instant, Peter was absolutely certain he heard Nar's voice, but when he came to his senses, all he heard was Venom's rambling. He didn't know why he couldn't use this power; he only knew one thing: he now had limitless potential.
The best news is that even if we unleash our power, we don't need to change our appearance. Let me think... we can switch between our current red and black suits depending on the combat conditions. When we need strength, we can become a muscular, all-red Spider-Man; when we need speed and agility, we can become a slender, all-black Spider-Man.
Venom, who was waiting for Peter to retort with "Then why didn't you just use your red form from the start?", noticed Peter's silence and asked with a mixture of curiosity and concern. [I forgot something.]
"No, it's just... I think I heard Nar's voice."
No, you're probably just imagining things.
Peter was certain he wasn't hallucinating; he was indeed hearing Nar's voice. Moreover, he discovered that he could now, or rather, at any time, accept Nar's thoughts and become the Black Emperor.
A key is placed right in front of you; picking it up unlocks boundless power. The question is, do you want to pick it up?
So Peter took a shower, changed his clothes, dried his hair, and planned to rest. He passed by his room and saw Gwen sitting on his bed. He couldn't help but sigh, then went inside.
"I'm glad I don't keep a diary, otherwise someone would definitely be tempted to read it."
“No way, I wouldn’t read someone else’s diary.” Gwen shrugged and handed the USB drive to Peter. “This was given to me by Senior Felicia. She said it contains new evidence against Fisk. She said I could give it to my dad or you, but I thought it would be better to give it to you.”
"Ha, that's strange."
"What's strange?" Gwen seemed thoughtful, then realized, "You mean, she's hiding something?"
"Definitely. The Defenders have been handling Fisk's case all along, and she knows them, so there's no need for her to come to me specifically. The point isn't the evidence; she's either telling me what she's discovered or telling me not to investigate anything."
Gwen's expression was strange: "Your way of communicating is really... weird."
"Don't try to figure out how a cat thinks, or you'll get confused by her. Tomorrow's school... oh, I might not even be able to go to school tomorrow. I'll just have to ask when I get there."
Peter shrugged, put the USB drive down, and casually asked Gwen about Sheriff George: "So, Uncle George hasn't come back yet?"
“Of course, he has an entire New York City to take care of, so his own daughter has to be put aside.”
Gwen says she's complaining, but she's actually helpless. She really wants to help, but she's just an ordinary person. What can Gwen Stacy do in the face of increasingly rampant superpowered crimes?
Gwen Stacy can't do anything.
“Well… oh, I have something to tell you, Gwen.” Peter suddenly remembered something and said, “The school plans to organize a trip for students to visit the Arecibo Telescope this month. All you need to do is answer the science quiz with prizes. I’ve looked at it; the questions are very simple, so…”
"Do you want me to go with you?"
Peter nodded.
"Well, I need to talk to my dad about when."
"The flight is on Monday the 12th, the trip will last a week, and I will return to Puerto Rico on Friday afternoon."
