Chapter 222 Symbiote Frenzy Phantom Cat Appears!
Chapter 222: Symbiote Frenzy—Phantom Cat Appears!
"We need to check how things are in other places first. Gnar's previous 'retreat-to-advance' maneuver put many people in a tough fight."
Peter swung on his webs while talking to Cindy, who remained silent as always, simply following behind him and taking his orders. The two first approached the Avengers' group, where chaos reigned. Jack of Hearts and Living Lightning were preventing Citizen V from eliminating Rhodes and Black Hawk, while Rhodes and Black Hawk, possessed by the symbiote, were trying to kill the others. In short, the five of them were fighting in a very disorganized manner.
Peter used Venom to stick Black Hawk's wings to the ground, while Cindy used the spider silk to rip War Machine's machine gun off and then dragged him into a high-altitude crash. Fortunately, Rhodes was protected by the symbiote and wouldn't be crippled.
Putting aside Live Lightning, Peter could tell that Jack of Hearts was actually capable of taking down War Machine and Black Hawk, but he just didn't dare to do it.
"Symbiotes aren't that fragile, my friend. Sometimes you can use a little more force."
As Peter spoke, he used his webs to stick Black Hawk to the wall. Jack of Hearts finally breathed a sigh of relief, but then Citizen V flapped its wings and flew over. This was the first time he'd seen Citizen V in this world; the newcomer had completely copied the abilities of War Machine and Black Hawk, making it even more powerful than the symbiote.
Wait a minute, isn't this the super-adaptor robot that can mimic other people's abilities?
Jack of Heart cried out, "We must stop him from hurting our friends. Spider-Man, I need your help!"
"Okay, helping others is Spider-Man's specialty, give me some time!"
Peter confronted the super-adaptor head-on. After a brief standoff, the super-adaptor executed its classic web-shooting move, exchanging webs with Peter. However, Peter wasn't alone. Cindy used her webs to stick to the super-adaptor's back from behind, and then, with a pull from both of them, Spider-Man's powerful strength tore the robot in two.
Seeing this, Jack of Hearts said "Oh".
"I have to say, buddy, your teammates aren't living people. As long as the robot's data isn't corrupted, just dismantle it and that's it. At worst, you can take it back and fix it after the game."
Jack of Hearts gave a forced "Oh," then scratched the back of his head, realizing he hadn't thought of that.
"Thank you, Spider-Man. Colonel, leave this to us. You can go ahead and get back to work."
After saying goodbye to Jack of Hearts, Peter and Cindy continued their journey. According to Stark, in order to weaken Gnar, the entire force would have to be mobilized, and therefore, it was necessary to unleash as much combat power as possible.
In other words, Peter needs to check what other people doing side quests are doing and see if he can free up some manpower to help.
"There's something going on over there."
Cindy's reminder interrupted Peter's thoughts. Peter saw a girl about his age running down the street, chased by a large group of elite symbiote minions. Peter was a little confused; was something wrong? Why were there still running girls spawning on the street at this hour? But seeing that she was about to be caught, Peter didn't care about that. He swung over, shouting "Watch out!", grabbed her waist, and scooped her up in his arms.
Don't ask him why he didn't grab the other person's hand. Spider-Man isn't Superman, and bioelectricity isn't a biofield. Grabbing someone's hand might just mean grabbing a hand.
Then, unexpectedly, the girl he picked up and swung around seemed to see the ground getting farther and farther away. In a moment of excitement, she passed right through Peter's arms and began a second free fall. Fortunately, Cindy, who was following behind, grabbed her in time, preventing her from being smashed into a pulp.
Fortunately, she didn't fall the second time.
The two men led the girl to the rooftop of a nearby building. Peter then looked over and saw a short girl, probably around fifteen or sixteen years old, with a chestnut ponytail and rare amber eyes.
“Hey, Spider-Man, I see you on TV all the time, and this is… Spider-Woman?” Cindy said something unusual: “Spiderweb.”
"Oh, thank you, Spider-Man. And Spider-Man, I'm so sorry, it wasn't that you didn't hold on properly, but... I just fell straight down."
The girl spoke shyly, and Peter roughly guessed who she was, but he waited for her to say it herself: "Um, I... I might be a mutant."
"possible?"
"Yeah, I didn't have any superpowers before, until yesterday? When I was about to be caught by these alien monsters, they passed right through my body." The girl said, sounding a little worried and anxious. "So, could I be a mutant?"
What's your name?
“Katie, Katie Pride.”
Sure enough, Peter thought, the girl in front of him was Shadowcat from X-Men, a mutant who could make her body or anything she touched pass through any object. When he worked with the X-Men before, he discovered that Shadowcat wasn't among the past members of the X-Men, and now it was confirmed that it was because they weren't from the same generation. The only mutant Peter knew who was the same age as Katie seemed to be Li Qianhuan.
"Okay, it seems you can protect yourself. We need to take you to..."
As Peter spoke, something occurred to him, and he looked at Katie, asking uncertainly, "Perhaps you could do us a favor?"
"What kind of help? Oh... wait a minute." Katie realized what she meant after she finished speaking, and looked at Peter with a hint of anticipation: "You mean, I can help you? Help the Avengers?"
"Yes, but I'm not sure if I should ask you for this favor. This matter is very dangerous, extremely dangerous."
Peter squinted at Katie, unsure if she could complete the task. In fact, he was hesitant because if Katie agreed, she would be facing the most powerful hero on Earth.
Conversely, if Katie volunteers to complete this mission and is able to do so, then the Avengers will be able to unleash the combined power of Thor and Hulk.
"I should be able to manage? After all, as long as they can't hit me, there shouldn't be anything to worry about."
Katie seemed quite confident, then looked at Peter and said, "Why don't you tell me first, what kind of help can I offer?"
"We need you to face the Hulk."
Huh? I'm fighting Hulk?
"Then bring him out of the symbiote."
catching up on yesterday's update
Fun fact: Kitty Phantom from the original X-Men trilogy had a different actress in each film. Therefore, the claim that the actress who played Kitty Phantom underwent gender reassignment surgery and cannot return is false. After all, the fact that Kitty Phantom couldn't return for the third and Days of Future Past films doesn't mean she can't return for the first or second films…
