Chapter 170 Venom Commentary
Chapter 170 Venom Commentary
I don't like them.
Venom delivered his scathing critique of Midtown Girls, and Peter, on his routine patrol over Manhattan, said helplessly to Venom, "I told you, you'd better hide. You can't hear any music at all if you insist on going to rehearsals."
I can listen to music, and I like John Denver.
"Then you can't listen to rock music either."
You have to understand that Gwen and MJ were in a standard rock band. It would be a miracle if Venom, a symbiote, could withstand the performance of a rock band, whether it's the volume or the style. It would basically die after listening to it once, or at least be half-dead for half a day.
That’s why—
I don't like them, I don't like any of them.
"Okay, okay, so next time if something similar happens, you'd better hide first. Whether it's loudspeakers on vehicles or rock concerts, you'd better stay away."
Don't choose a spouse from among them; I don't like it.
?
How did the conversation turn to this? Venom, are you awake?
That dark-haired woman is quite nice; she trusts you and is very quiet.
"I don't really want to hear about that. Let's focus on our patrol."
Peter yanked on his web, swinging between skyscrapers, but Venom didn't let him go, continuing to chatter on and on.
[That silver-haired one is nice too. Although I don't quite trust you yet, I like me a lot—at least you're wearing me.]
Peter sighed helplessly.
"Even if I really want to choose, that's my business. What are you interfering for?"
But we're partners.
"That's me looking for a girlfriend, not you." Peter complained helplessly, and as he did so, he looked over the huge screen of the Daily Bugle, where, sure enough, Jameson was promoting his Spider-Man threat theory again.
"Since Fisk went to jail, we've seen New York's crime rate rise instead of fall. What does this prove? It shows that Spider-Man and his team didn't have a contingency plan in place to handle New York's crime situation before they took action! The capture of their so-called mob godfather didn't help New York at all! It's even possible that Fisk wasn't one of the sources of New York's crime rate at all!"
Jameson grabbed the camera and started spitting at the audience.
"Spider-Man always claims to be a friendly neighbor in New York, but in reality? He's always putting his neighbors in danger!"
“Actually, New York always has some dangerous neighbors, Jameson. But never mind, I know you're a good person, so I'll let it go for now.”
Just as Peter finished speaking, a phone call came in. Somewhat surprisingly, it was Mary Jane calling. After he answered the phone, he heard her somewhat incoherent voice.
"My God, Peter, you absolutely won't believe what just happened..."
"It sounds like something very important and good has happened, hasn't it?"
Mary Jane, standing outside the Daily Horn studio, smiled and nodded. Something had just happened that would change her life forever.
"Do you remember when I suggested that I replace the interview transcript with the Rhino Man article? Jonah saw my Rhino Man-related report, and you can't imagine how happy he was!"
“Wait, happy?” Peter, who had landed on a huge billboard, sensed something was off. “Are you sure Jonah Jameson is happy?”
"It sounds strange, doesn't it? But it's true," Jonah cheered loudly and stood up, introducing me to Editor-in-Chief Robbie and everyone around him.
When Jameson realized that a journalist dared to uncover the truth and discuss social issues, he felt gratified and appreciative of having such a new employee in his company. He immediately decided to revise the Daily Horn's broadcast for that day, dedicating a few minutes to the story of the rhinoceros. He also bluntly announced his willingness to sponsor Mary Jane until she graduated from university, and if Mary Jane wished to study journalism or media, the Daily Horn would be willing to hire her outright—if Jonah Jameson were still the boss at that time.
He said that in this day and age, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a journalist who is willing to report fairly rather than deliberately stirring up people's emotions. If I can persevere, I may be able to become an excellent investigative journalist.
Peter naturally offered his congratulations.
"congratulations."
Mary Jane on the other end of the phone was silent for a few seconds, then her voice became noticeably more... reserved?
"Thank you. I didn't mean congratulations. I meant thank you for suggesting I report on the rhinoceros. None of this would have happened without you, Peter. Thank you."
“No, no, no, that was your own choice, wasn’t it? I just told you about it, and in the end, you chose to give up the interview and report it, and instead gave it to Rhino.” Peter didn’t take credit, after all, it was indeed Mary Jane herself who ultimately decided to write the report and hand it over to Jonah Jameson.
“Speaking of this…” Mary Jane’s voice trailed off as she looked at Jonah Jameson in the studio, who had picked up his report and his own manuscript, and asked Peter with a smile, “You still owe me a meal. Do you have time tonight?”
"Hmm? Oh, no problem. You choose the restaurant? I seem to be fine now."
Are you very busy?
"Fortunately, there might have been an emergency in the lab."
"Oh right, I forgot you're still an intern at Baxter Building. I'll send you the restaurant location in a bit."
After Peter hung up the phone, Venom released his own sharp commentary.
[That redhead? I don't like her either.]
"Yeah, yeah, who could you possibly like?"
She also plays rock music, and it's very loud.
Peter put away his phone and looked at Jonathan on the big screen. Jonathan had finished his daily rant about Spider-Man and was starting his next report: "In this era where superheroes and villains perform like circus clowns, most people probably only focus on their battles and ignore the characters themselves, such as why a bad guy becomes a bad guy."
"I can't deny that a significant portion of bad people are born evil; they're psychologically disturbed and seek to commit crimes. But there are also supervillains whose existence is entirely due to our society itself. Take Alexei Mikhailovich Sisevich, for example, codenamed Rhino. A Russian of Russian descent who underwent painful body modifications to achieve bulletproof skin, he became Rhino not because he was a horrific gangster or a psychopath, but because no one, except those villains, offered him a helping hand..."
Jonathan, as always, used his roar to tell the city's journalists what truly valuable things they could do.
Peter listened to Jonathan's broadcast for a while without any police intervention, and Venom didn't say anything until Peter stood up to leave.
"Sometimes, noise can bring some good things, can't it?"
catching up on yesterday's update
John Denver's most famous song is probably "Country Road, Take Me Home".
