Chapter 136 First Battle with Doctor Octopus

Chapter 136 First Battle with Doctor Octopus
Madam Viper set a five-minute countdown to self-destruct, but in less than two minutes, her four modified Viper gang members were beaten up by Spider-Man and thrown aside.

“I can understand you calling yourselves ‘Vipers’ to make yourselves look more menacing, but you really don’t need to turn yourselves into snakes.” Peter said, pulling up the giant viper’s large tail and tangling it with the others in a tight knot. These guys had modified themselves to truly resemble snakes, resulting in an unexpectedly excellent degree of body elongation, making them perfectly suited for tying large knots.

Just as Peter had twisted the Viper Gang members into a ball and tossed them aside, a loud crash came from a room not far away. Then Felicia nimbly darted out of the room and threw a glass jar at Peter. Peter instinctively used his spider silk to catch it, and looking at the fierce-looking guy in his hand, he couldn't help but be stunned for a moment.

Isn't that Venom?
"Where did you get this... Oh!"

A four-clawed monster trapped inside a life support pod chased after them from the room. While shoving four canisters containing symbiotes onto a drone for evacuation, it grabbed a forklift and hurled it at Felicia. Felicia ran while glancing back, calculating where to jump for safety. But it was clearly unnecessary; Peter delivered a flying kick, sending the forklift flying back and tossing the glass canister back to Felicia.

"Don't knock it over, there's some extremely dangerous bio-weapon inside." Felicia explained as she took the glass jar, and Peter agreed. In this world, he was probably the person most familiar with symbiotes—oh, if there was a Nar in this universe, then he would be the second most knowledgeable about symbiotes.

"So why did you steal this?"

"Who knows? Last time it was the Super Soldier Serum, and this time it's this stuff. We have to get something out of them eventually."

Felicia smiled but didn't utter the word "Hydra".

This was still something Peter and the others had agreed upon. Although they had clearly identified Hydra as their enemy, the Hydra itself was also operating in the shadows. Therefore, it was best not to reveal that they knew the other side was Hydra. Limiting the conflict to a battle between them and the US military and the US government would give them more room to maneuver. If the other side found out they knew the other side was Hydra, it might lead to a fight to the death.

Ultimately, even Peter wasn't sure how vast Hydra's reach was in the United States, or how deep its infiltration was. If it couldn't be eradicated all at once, or at least most of the Hydra organization could be completely paralyzed, it would only alert Hydra and cause even greater damage.

Of course, this has nothing to do with the Doctor Octopus they are currently dealing with.

Spider-Man!!!

Octavia was devastated to see Spider-Man ruin his plans once again. He simply couldn't understand why Spider-Man was relentlessly pursuing him, and why Spider-Man always seemed to obstruct his every move. So, Octavia used his mechanical tentacles to tear off a section of floorboards and smash it at Spider-Man. After all, the base was about to self-destruct, so he figured he might as well use it.

Peter finally met Doctor Octopus of this universe. After telling Felicia, "Go find the survivors," he leaped up and jumped over the metal floor, accidentally smearing Doctor Octopus's face with a web.

"I've heard so much about you, Doctor Octopus!"

Watching Doctor Octopus rip the spiderwebs off his face with his tentacles, Peter observed his own universe's Doctor Octopus: this world's Otto was somewhat like the guy from the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, but in a much worse state: he was completely encased in a life support pod, his limbs retracted inside, and his voice had a distinctly synthetic quality. Undoubtedly, even Doctor Octopus's vocal cords were no longer functioning properly. "Considering your indomitable spirit despite your disability, I suggest you just surrender, how about that?"

As Peter spoke, he dodged the tentacles' attacks. It seemed that because Doctor Octopus was truly paralyzed, his control and mastery over the tentacles were far superior to that of the female version of Doctor Octopus from Earth 700. Even with metal arms, the tentacles remained flexible, and even if Peter managed to grab them and tie a knot, he could quickly untie it.

However, Spider-Man has an ability that even Doctor Octopus cannot defend against.

He disappeared.

Doctor Octopus, who had previously speculated about this, is now even more anxious. He had already begun to suspect that Spider-Man's abilities had been enhanced a second time, and now it seems that it is indeed true. The invisibility and bioelectric abilities are something he didn't have before, and he hasn't upgraded himself to address these issues, so he is no match for Spider-Man.

As for Peter, he could actually kill Doctor Octopus very quickly, but the problem is that the other party has locked him in a life support pod. What Peter is more worried about is... what if he accidentally kills him?

Although Doctor Octopus has done a lot of bad things, on the one hand, in most Spider-Man works, Doctor Octopus is not beyond redemption; on the other hand, in many cases, Doctor Octopus and Norman Osborn have intricate connections, so obtaining some information from him would be crucial.

After all, sometimes killing villains is a simple and satisfying thing to do, but you can never figure out the messy things behind them. As Spider-Man, Peter Parker still has to be careful. If you kill a villain on the spot and don't know what bombs they planted, you'll be in trouble if more people get blown up.

Of course, those who don't care about these things and feel it's none of their business even if a bomb kills someone are another story.

Just as Peter was trying to tear off one of Doctor Octopus's legs, his spider-sense went off, and a huge tank drove out. A woman stood on the roof of the tank, directing it to fire, and then looked at Doctor Octopus.

"Dr. Octavia, please execute the evacuation order."

"But the first symbiote sample..."

“You scientists are more valuable than samples.” Looking at Spider-Man, who was constantly dodging enemy fire, Madam Viper gave a death order: “Retreat immediately, Dr. Otto.”

I feel this chapter is poorly written.
