Chapter 119 Project 5: Symbiote
Otto Octavia didn't want to work for anyone, but even a genius like him had to consider two things: first, he had no money; second, he couldn't be caught by the Avengers or S.H.I.E.L.D. before he could take revenge on Norman Osborn.

After all, there are really all sorts of brainwashing and memory-reading methods in this world. As long as these methods work, even if they are not considered valid evidence from a legal point of view, S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Avengers may still be able to use this evidence to arrest him. That's why he needs to constantly change environments and seek new financial backers.

Kingpin had helped him a lot, but unfortunately, even if he was safe now, he couldn't help Otto. However, this wasn't entirely why Otto accepted the Japanese doctor's invitation. More importantly, the doctor had dialed a number, and the other end was the US military. They promised to help Otto escape the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s pursuit in exchange for Otto's support for their research projects.

"Why shouldn't similar experiments be avoided in New York, a densely populated place in general, to prevent detection?"

Dragging his life support device, Otto couldn't help but ask, everything the other party was doing seemed illogical, but Dr. Koyama didn't elaborate on that point: "We've reached a critical stage of success, but we're currently lacking a large number of human subjects for experimentation. New York is a good place; we could have carried out all of this in the underground lab on Rikers Island, but unfortunately, one of our successful subjects escaped, and we had to relocate temporarily."

As he spoke, Xiaoshan opened the bunker door. This place was located at the bottom of the Hudson River and had only recently been completed. Many of the interior facilities were not yet finished, and a large number of US military personnel were training here.

“I admire you, Dr. Octavia. As a PhD in neurobiology and bionics, you were able to complete an experiment for Project 2. This proves your talent and ability.”

"Project Two?"

Otto thought for a while before asking uncertainly, "You mean scorpions?"

"Using radiation-modified animal genes to create super soldiers, that's the essence of Project Two, 'Savage Force.' We entrusted this project to Osborn in the past, but unfortunately, he didn't know how to use this great project, and it's dragged on without any results to this day."

As Koyama spoke, he gestured towards a female officer in the distance. She appeared to have dyed her hair a long time ago, as only the ends were green, the rest remaining black, obscuring the right side of her face. The female officer shook hands with Koyama, exchanged a few words of greeting in Japanese, and then extended her hand to Otto.

“Hello, Dr. Octavia, I am Ophelia Sarkissian, the security chief of this base. You can call me Viper.”

Otto looked at the hill.

"Don't look at me. This is the security contractor you Americans hired, called Viper Security. Everyone there is a test subject in our 'weapons upgrade project.' Like the lady in front of you, she was injected with a lightweight version of the Super Soldier Serum."

“The results were far from ideal, but at least it was better than nothing,” Ophelia replied. Otto shook hands with Ophelia, and then the young woman said, “I’m going to take Dr. Octavia to his laboratory, Dr. Koyama.”

"Alright, I need to go back and deal with those failed experiments too."

Otto moved his mechanical tentacles, following Ophelia, or rather, the viper. He was led to the door of a laboratory. He didn't ask what kind of experiment was going to be conducted; after all, once he arrived, he would understand at a glance.

However, what he saw far exceeded his expectations. The brightly lit laboratory was almost empty, except for two enormous glass jars large enough to fit a person, and five smaller glass jars placed inside the sealed walls. Inside were different colored, gelatinous fluids that were slowly crawling around. As if aware of someone approaching, one of the bright red, viscous liquids grew sharp teeth and eyes at Otto and seemed to let out a howl.

"These are the projects you need to study, and these are..."

"Symbiotes, I once saw Norman and high-ranking U.S. military officials discussing them in Osborn's system. You discovered these strange creatures on a meteorite that crashed in Arizona. They must combine with other life forms to obtain a stable form, which can greatly enhance the host's physical attributes."

"And we can give limbs to people with disabilities; we have done experiments on some 'volunteers'."

This made Otto Octavia look at Ophelia, then greedily lift up the jar, looking at the strange alien creature inside. At that moment, he noticed that among all five jars, the black symbiote had the least feedback.

"That one looks a little different."

"That's sample number one, with the most ordinary abilities and the highest sensitivity to the environment. Its molecular structure is the most unstable under the stimulation of high-frequency sound waves, and it is the most easily destroyed by high temperatures. Moreover, it is the least stable for parasitic experiments."

Otto nodded, then expelled Ophelia from his lab. He released the symbiote and began reviewing the previous researcher's records. These symbiotes, while powerful, were far from safe; almost no host could sustain stable parasitism. Even the fact that the symbiote might cause them to become extreme and indiscriminately destructive was a minor issue; these symbiotes were even carnivorous, often devouring their hosts at the end of experiments.

While the US military hasn't yet found a way to effectively utilize symbiotes to create super soldiers, they have thoroughly researched how to control them. As Ophelia just mentioned, symbiotes become molecularly unstable in high-frequency sound waves and cannot coexist, while high-temperature flames can harm them. Furthermore, lightning can also repel symbiotes to some extent; they seem to have a fear response to lightning and thunder, the reason for which is currently unknown.

More importantly, Otto finally understood the relationship between these super-soldier projects. They were all part of a larger super-soldier project called "Weapon Plus," categorized from one to ten. This experimental base was responsible for two projects: "Project One: Rebirth," overseen by Dr. Koyama, which aimed to redevelop and recreate Captain America's super-soldier serum. Its ultimate goal was ridiculously stated as "to create a super-soldier serum with a thousand times the effect of Erkins' super-soldier serum," a statement that clearly had a Japanese chuunibyou (delusional) feel to it.

There is also the "Project Five: Symbiote" program, which plans to have symbiotes parasitize parasitized soldiers on the battlefield, thereby allowing them to continue to be used in combat.
