Chapter 199 The Death of General Ferro
Chapter 199 The Death of General Ferro
The green flames licked at everything flammable like a demon, emitting a pungent sulfurous smell.
The scorching heatwave spread outwards, igniting hundreds of tents nearby. Wooden fences were snapped in half, sending debris flying and causing a second wave of damage.
Even more terrifying was the chain reaction: the horses, startled by the loud noise, neighed wildly, causing the stables to shake precariously, while the soldiers ran around in panic, with a threatening panic that threatened to break out of the camp.
General Ferro rushed out of the main tent and was stunned by the hellish scene before him.
"My armory!" he roared furiously, his eyes wide with rage. "Why did it explode?"
The entire military camp was in chaos, and the officers, dazed and confused, rushed out of their tents, completely unaware of what had happened.
"General!"
Just then, an officer ran in to report, "A wildfire exploded. The armory is completely destroyed! Several nearby tents were also destroyed!"
As Ferro listened to the officer's report, his expression grew increasingly grim. Suddenly, he remembered something.
“The Strong Brotherhood!” he gritted his teeth. “It must be those damned guys! They just went to the armory tonight!”
"General, you mean..."
"Who else could it be but them?" Ferro roared in fury. "That Red Hand Karl, and his men, are all spies!"
He turned and searched around, roaring, "Cerio? Where's that idiot Serio? Where did he go!"
"General, Lieutenant Serio hasn't returned yet..."
"Damn it!" Ferro grew angrier the more he thought about it, kicking the officer to the ground. "Those damned spies must have gotten him into trouble too! I'll tear them to pieces!"
At the same time, General Ferro suddenly felt liquid gushing from his nose, ears, mouth, and eyes. When he reached down to touch it, his hand was covered in crimson blood!
"Good heavens!" The officer who had been kicked to the ground scrambled to his feet and rushed to Ferro's side, exclaiming, "The general is bleeding from all seven orifices!"
During the angry roar, the toxins began to take full effect, and Ferro felt a violent dizziness, his body swaying precariously.
"General! General!"
The officers around him quickly helped him up. Everyone was terrified; they had never seen such symptoms before and had no idea what to do.
Fear filled Ferro's eyes. He remembered that his food and drinks were all inspected by special personnel. The only unidentified object he came into contact with was that Heraca pelt!
But who exactly is it, and what kind of poison could kill someone instantly upon contact?
But even if he thought of it, it was too late. Blood kept gushing from his seven orifices, staining his upper body crimson, which looked particularly eerie in the firelight.
"Quickly! Go and fetch the army doctor!"
"No! Go and summon the High Priest immediately!"
"Only the High Priest can save the General!"
But it was too late.
With a faint sigh, General Ferro Antalion, the supreme commander of the Braavos Expeditionary Force, breathed his last in full view of everyone!
...
Meanwhile, distant firelight illuminated half the sky.
"Hurry!" Oberon urged, looking at the horizon. "If we don't leave now, it'll be too late!"
“Yes,” Garland chimed in, “Let’s leave now before anyone suspects us.”
Rahalo shook his head, a sly glint in his eyes.
"What's the rush? We finally managed to sneak in, and now we're just going to leave so easily? What a waste of our trip!"
"What do you mean?" Everyone looked at him in confusion.
Rahalo pointed at Garan, who was still wearing his adjutant's uniform, and then looked at the golden token in his hand.
"The military camp is in complete chaos right now, and it's so dark. This is the perfect opportunity to sow discord."
Oberon's eyes lit up. "Brilliant! Let them kill each other!"
"Let's go!" Rahalo mounted his horse. "Let's add more fuel to the fire!" The twenty-five men mounted their horses and charged toward the burning camp.
Along the way, there were panicked soldiers everywhere. Some were putting out fires, some were searching for lost comrades, and some were salvaging supplies. No one cared about the few figures galloping on horseback.
They first arrived at the rear camp, which was closest to the explosion site and where the fire was the most intense. The soldiers were terrified by the huge explosion.
Garan reined in his horse and raised the golden token. "General Ferro has given the order!"
Upon hearing the sound, the soldiers looked up. In the firelight, they could only see the purple uniform and the gleaming token, and could not recognize who it was.
"Lieutenant!" a captain rushed over, "How is the central army now?"
"The general is safe and sound! The central army has returned to order!" Garan shouted. "But we have discovered a traitor! The former battalion commander colluded with Lahalo to blow up the armory!"
"What?" The soldiers were all shocked.
"The general has given the order!" Garan continued, "The logistics battalion is to immediately arm itself and proceed to the forward camp to annihilate the rebels! Remember, the men of the forward camp are not to be trusted; kill them on sight! Leave no one alive!"
"Yes, sir!" The officer had no doubts and immediately went to gather his men.
Lahalo and his men rode away, galloping towards the right camp, with the sound of bugles signaling the assembly of the logistics camp and the clanging of weapons and armor coming from behind them.
The right flank was also in chaos. Many tents were on fire, and the soldiers were desperately fighting the flames, unable to attend to anything else.
"General Ferro has given the order!" Garland raised his token again.
The commander of the right battalion was directing firefighting efforts when he heard his adjutant's voice and immediately ran over.
"My lord, what is the current situation of the central army?"
“It’s terrible,” Garland feigned anger. “Those damned mercenaries have defected! They blew up the armory. The general orders your unit to immediately lead the pursuit and kill them all!”
"Mercenaries?" the commander asked, frowning. "What kinds of mercenaries?"
"None of the mercenaries can be trusted!" Garland said decisively. "The general suspects they've all been bribed by Laharo. Kill any mercenaries you see, leave no one alive!"
"Understood!" The commander immediately summoned his subordinates.
Lahalo and the others rode towards the mercenary camp, the most chaotic place, where various mercenary groups were packing their belongings, preparing to escape this dangerous place.
"Commanders! Hold on!" Garan shouted from the center of the camp. "General Ferro has given orders!"
Upon hearing the adjutant's voice, the nearby mercenary leaders all gathered around.
"There's a traitor in the Braavos Army!" Garland exclaimed angrily. "The former battalion commander colluded with the enemy and blew up our armory!"
"What?" The mercenary leaders were shocked.
"The general has ordered," Garan continued to incite, "that whichever mercenary group is the first to wipe out the traitorous vanguard will receive a reward of ten thousand gold dragons! And they will not take a single penny of the spoils!"
A greedy glint flashed in the mercenaries' eyes. Ten thousand gold dragons would be enough for them to squander for years.
"Our Iron Fist Mercenary Group is willing to serve!" a leader immediately declared.
"The Blood Raven Mercenary Group is also willing!" another leader retorted.
Soon, more than a dozen mercenary groups expressed their willingness to join the war.
They began arming their men in preparation for attacking the mutineer vanguard.
With their plan succeeding, Lahalo and the others exchanged glances, turned their horses around, and ran away.
