Sword of Light: Humanoid Self-Propelled Artillery

Chapter 156 It’s your own fault
Wang Gensheng looked at his self-reproaching subordinate, patted him on the shoulder in comfort, but didn't say anything more.
Clearly, in terms of individual ability, his knife-throwing skills need improvement. He didn't kill anyone, which is simply because he was overconfident and too conceited about his knife-throwing abilities.
Fortunately, although some members of the commando team were injured, no one was killed in action.
The three-piece bulletproof set, consisting of a bulletproof helmet, bulletproof face mask, and bulletproof vest, provides excellent protection for the vital organs of the assault team soldiers.
"Pah! Pah! Pah! Commander, these Japanese canned food 'they're getting worse and worse! What kind of crap is this?! It doesn't even taste like beef at all!"
Duan Peng complained to Wang Gensheng while spitting out the canned beef he had just eaten, to which Wang Gensheng simply smiled and said:
"This shows that our war of resistance is nearing victory! The Japanese devils are almost at their breaking point. Look at them now, do they still dare to organize large-scale mopping-up operations? They can only cower in their county towns, afraid to come out, and they're even having trouble getting food!"
What Wang Gensheng said was no lie. As time went on for four or five years, the Japanese soldiers hiding in the county town became isolated islands, and the Eighth Route Army's base surrounded the Japanese soldiers who occupied the county town.
However, there was no way to cultivate a large amount of land in the county town, so the source of food naturally became a problem. You know, when the Japanese had the strength, they could launch large-scale mopping-up operations from time to time, and improve their meals by looting grain, pigs, ducks, chickens and other poultry in the countryside.
But now there's no way around it. The bombing of the Japanese arsenals has exacerbated the difficulties in supplying weapons and ammunition.
Lacking weapons and ammunition, even if the Japanese still had men, they were unable to launch a large-scale mopping-up operation.
In fact, the most damaging bombing was not the two mushroom bombs before the surrender, but the Tokyo bombing during March and May of 1945.
This bombing resulted in the deaths of 140,000 Japanese soldiers, and a quarter of Tokyo's territory was razed to the ground. It was the largest and deadliest non-nuclear air raid in human history.
The bombing of Tokyo was carried out in three phases, each more brutal than the last.
The first bombing occurred on the night of March 9, 1945. The U.S. military dispatched more than 300 B-29 bombers from Guam, carrying more than 2,000 tons of highly incendiary white phosphorus bombs.
This type of munition ignites spontaneously upon contact with air and can penetrate metal and concrete. The US military chose to bomb at night to avoid Japanese anti-aircraft fire and deliberately lowered its flight altitude to improve bombing accuracy.
When these white phosphorus bombs landed over Dongjing, it was like opening the gates of hell. Since the Japanese houses were mostly wooden structures, they were easily ignited. The fire spread rapidly, creating a sea of flames. The wind also played a role, blowing the flames further and creating powerful air currents that made escape difficult.
In less than half a day, 200,000 buildings covering a quarter of Dongjing's land were reduced to ashes, killing more than 80,000 people instantly and seriously injuring another 100,000! This was the largest single air raid in World War II in terms of casualties.
The second bombing occurred between April 13 and 16, 1945. The U.S. military once again sent more than 300 B-29s to the skies over London, this time using more white phosphorus bombs and other flammable materials.
They reduced the 56-square-kilometer city of Dongjing to ashes, burning tens of thousands to death on the spot and reducing hundreds of thousands of houses to ashes. This bombing also damaged the Japanese industrial base and transportation infrastructure, depriving them of vital supply and transport capabilities during the war. It's important to understand that to ensure the safety of their own arsenals, the Japanese production model involved transporting raw materials back to Japan, processing them into industrial goods such as firearms and ammunition, and then shipping them to the front lines.
The most typical example is that after the Japanese occupied the Taihara Arsenal, they did not organize production on the spot, but instead transported the production equipment back to Japan for installation and production.
The third bombing raid occurred on the morning of May 26, 1945, when the U.S. military deployed 500 B-29s to Dongjing for mopping-up operations. This was an unprecedented scale, equivalent to nine B-29s bombing every square kilometer. To increase the bomb load of the B-29s, General LeMay, the U.S. commander, ordered the removal of all nine heavy machine guns from the B-29s, allowing each B-29 to carry 9,000 kilograms of ammunition. This ammunition was then poured over Dongjing, causing even greater destruction and carnage. After this bombing, most of Dongjing was reduced to scorched earth, and millions were left homeless.
The devastation of the Tokyo bombing surpassed the destructive power of the atomic bomb, resulting in 40,000 more deaths than the combined atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Izumi. It was also the most effective strike by the US military against the Japanese mainland, causing the Japanese to lose a significant amount of manpower, resources, and morale during the war. The Tokyo bombing was one of the most devastating bombings of World War II.
Of course, such a tragic outcome was entirely the fault of the Japanese, and Wang Gensheng had no sympathy for it. After all, as the saying goes, "If only they had known this would happen, why did they do it in the first place?"
However, it was precisely because he knew that the Japanese were running out of ammunition and that they were about to surrender that Wang Gensheng accelerated his attack on the Japanese.
After all, if we don't kill them now, we'll have no chance to kill them once the Japanese announce their surrender in a few months.
This time, Wang Gensheng was the fastest runner and the one at the very front, his light machine gun never stopped firing from beginning to end.
Even so, Wang Gensheng only managed to get less than two hundred kills in this battle, which increased his physical enhancement by another twenty percent.
Just as Wang Gensheng was feeling the power that came from his body becoming stronger again, Li Xiu ran over to report:
"Commander, these Japanese devils seem to be out of ammunition and supplies! A whole battalion is stationed in a county town, and they only have less than a ton of ammunition left!"
To this, Wang Gensheng could only smile and say:
"There's no other way. Alright, assault team, rest. Firepower team, cooperate with reconnaissance team to clean up the battlefield. Don't miss a single shell casing. Oh, and also send a reconnaissance team to check the main road leading to the county town to see if any other Japanese soldiers are coming to support us. If they do, report it immediately!"
Wang Gensheng is no longer afraid of the Japanese coming to his aid. After all, he has a strong and well-equipped army. Even if the Japanese come to his aid, he is confident that he can take them down.
In fact, if it weren't for the fact that there were still many residents living in Taiyuan City, Wang Gensheng would have dared to launch a full-scale attack on Taiyuan by now.
The reason they dared not take action was not because they were afraid of being unable to defeat a single Japanese regiment, but because they were afraid of harming the civilians in the city.
After all, the Japanese had too many people to deal with all at once. If they couldn't be dealt with quickly, the Japanese, who were at a disadvantage, might resort to desperate measures and take the people in the city hostage. This was the reason why Wang Gensheng didn't take action against Taiyuan City.
