Chapter 71 Enemies and Friends

Gu Yi stood on the boundless ice plain, the pale sunlight merging with the ice surface into a cold, chaotic blur. There was no wind, no cold. He looked down at his intact hands; the dark scales that had covered them during battle had long since faded.

"Stop with this nonsense, come out." The boy spoke to the void, his voice echoing in the emptiness.

A silvery laugh pierced the silence as the girl tiptoed out from behind Gu Yi.

"Wow, Gu, that's amazing!" CC exclaimed, spreading his arms wide. "Single-handedly slaying a third-generation monster—that's a feat worthy of being written into Kassel's yearbook!"

Gu Yi turned around. "Am I unconscious right now?"

"That's right, the aftereffects of bloodshed."

"How are the senior brothers?"

"You're worried about others first?" CC suddenly appeared in front of him. Seeing the boy's narrowed eyes, she chuckled. "Relax, relax! Your companions are doing great. Caesar has some minor injuries, but he's lively and energetic. Chu Zihang, like you, suffered from excessive blood loss and is a bit exhausted now. As for Fingel... that guy is, of course, completely unharmed."

Gu Yi's tense shoulders relaxed slightly, and he exhaled a long breath: "That's good."

CC hopped up to him with her hands behind her back, the oversized hem of her shirt swaying with her movements: "Now it's your turn! Tell me your thoughts~"

"What do you want to ask?" the boy asked, turning his head.

The girl suddenly leaned closer, her nose almost touching his chin: "Of course it's Bloodlust! How does it feel to use?"

Gu Yi frowned and took a half step back: "This power... is the one you mentioned before that could increase my attack power?"

“That’s right, that’s right!” CC nodded repeatedly. “Remember how you couldn’t even cut through the dragon scales before? Before, you were almost helpless against the dragon’s defenses except for relying on weapons, but after you went into a blood frenzy, you tore them apart with your bare hands! Isn’t your attack power much stronger now?”

“But every time I activate it, it feels like walking on the edge of an abyss.” The boy subconsciously clenched his fist. “I feel the dragon blood eroding my reason, and my bloodlust surges instantly.”

"Because you can only unleash the lion's heart now; you're still a long way from mastering it."

"What if we go further?" Gu Yi looked at the girl, "What will happen if there's a second hemorrhage?"

CC suddenly stopped joking: "The moment you enter the second blood rush, you'll become Deadpool."

"Why?"

"Bloodlust brings you close to, or even beyond, the threshold of near-bloodline. You're S-rank, your bloodline is already high, and even a first-degree Bloodlust is dangerous for you. A second degree?" Her fingertips suddenly turned to her temples, "Dragon blood will instantly destroy this place. You'll become Deadpool!"

"Then how can I continue to unlock the second or even the third degree?"

The girl pinched her chin and circled around him, then suddenly sighed heavily: "Stop worrying me, we'll talk about it later, there's always a way."

Gu Yi gazed at the shimmering light floating on the distant ice plains: "I just remembered something. When I first tried to activate Bloodlust, the dragon suddenly became very shocked and mumbled a bunch of things. What did it say?"

"Go ask your principal."

"You can't talk?"

"So you really want to hear me talk?" CC jumped backwards onto the ice shards that appeared in the void. "But let's wait for your principal to talk to you. He's more suitable to talk to you because Angers is not only the most qualified to speak on Time Zero, but also on Bloodlust."

“I remember the principal was a member of the Lionheart Society before.”

The girl nodded. "That's right, he's a founding member of the Lionheart Society. No one knows the Bloodlust technique better than him." Gu Yi knelt on the ice. "So, are all the things I've been experiencing lately the result of those evil spirits you mentioned starting to emerge?"

The girl suddenly appeared beside him, her long silver hair brushing against his shoulder. She tilted her head on Gu Yi's shoulder, a faint scent of camellia wafting from her hair. "Do you remember what that mysterious man from Shilan Middle School said? Your bloodline awakening will disrupt the balance of power."

The boy glanced sideways at the girl who was almost nuzzling his neck; his Adam's apple bobbed slightly, but he ultimately did not move away.

"Then who is my enemy?"

“Those damned old fogies, the behind-the-scenes manipulators, the ambitious opportunists who covet power,” she laughed out loud as she counted on her fingers to the third one. “Of course, most importantly, never regard them as eternal enemies. The identity of enemy and friend itself changes with the times and the situation.”

A faint cracking sound suddenly came from the ice. Gu Yi gazed at the girl's face so close to his own: "And you? Will you be a friend or an enemy in the future?"

The girl floated backward into the air, her white shirt billowing in the air from an unknown gust of wind: "I am the one who will always care about you."

The entire ice field suddenly trembled violently, and fine cracks erupted outwards from Gu Yi in all directions. The boy, watching the falling icicles, asked, "I'm waking up, aren't I?"

"Remember to comfort your senior sister." CC's voice seemed to come from near and far, her figure gradually becoming transparent amidst the falling ice crystals. "The way you fell was quite terrifying; it scared everyone."

The moment the last piece of ice shattered, Gu Yi heard a whisper, almost a sigh, carried on the wind: "Time is running out..."

·
The chaotic icy landscape receded like a tide, replaced by a cacophony of shouts. Gu Yi's eyelashes fluttered; the first thing he felt was the distinctive rubbery texture of a medical stretcher mattress against the back of his neck. The stench of disinfectant filled his nostrils, and the stark white light from the overhead lamp blurred his vision.

"He's awake! Medical team!" Vivian's scream was right next to him. Through his half-closed eyelids, Gu Yi saw his senior sister's long brown hair swaying as she ran.

Before long, seven or eight pairs of hands wearing latex gloves touched his body at the same time, and the sound of metal instruments colliding rang out crisply.

"Pupils react normally to light!"

"Heart rate is normal!"

"Blood oxygen levels are normal!"

Amidst the constant stream of reports, Gu Yi tried to turn his neck. Vivian's face came into view. He opened his mouth, his throat feeling like it was being rubbed with sandpaper: "Senior Sister..."

"Shut up!" Vivian suddenly grabbed his hand that was resting on the edge of the bed. "Do you know how terrifying you looked when you fell? It felt like you were being roasted alive by dragon flames!"

The sterilization curtain was pulled open with a whoosh by a metal hook. Schneider walked in, and Vivian suddenly seemed to realize something, letting go of his hand and taking a step back.

"How are you feeling?" Schneider asked.

With the nurse's help, Gu Yi propped himself up. "Professor, task."

“Caesar has already reported,” Schneider interrupted him, raising his hand. “The emergence of the third generation is beyond our control, and we are investigating the source of the dragons’ awakening.”

The conversation on the icy plains flashed through Gu Yi's mind, and his eyes widened. "What happened to that dragon?"

"They were killed by Team Leader Walker and his assault team," Vivian suddenly interjected, her voice trembling.

"They didn't capture them alive?" Gu Yi lay back down.

“Dragons are violent creatures; their self-destructive tendencies far exceed human imagination. That dragon just now even tried to take the surrounding streets down with it at the end. Don’t think about these things anymore, get some rest.” With that, Schneider turned and left.
