Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 298 Kreacher's Gift
Chapter 298 Kreacher's Gift
Despite Kreacher's enthusiastic invitation, Siron decided to give him face and stay for lunch.
Of course, another important reason is that he misses the food cooked by house-elves.
During this period, he basically ate all three meals at the Leaky Cauldron bar, and he even smelled of garlic when he spoke.
Moreover, Celen didn't really want to eat at home; his grandfather, Garrick Ollivander, was a traditional British wizard, and this tradition included culinary skills.
To put it simply, Garrick's magically created food was no better than the Leaky Cauldron, which was all garlic. Siren felt it had only one purpose... to maintain basic vital signs.
Since Kreacher had extended a warm invitation, Siron decided to take the opportunity to improve his meals.
Although Kreacher is quite old, he works just as fast as the house-elves in the school kitchen.
In less than an hour, a sumptuous lunch was laid out in front of Xilun.
The long ebony dining table was polished to a shine and covered with a tablecloth embroidered with the Black family crest. The thick dust on the windows had also been swept away, and sunlight slanted in from outside, falling perfectly on the silver cutlery and gold plates.
Incidentally, Kreacher didn't bring the kind of golden plate used in Hogwarts' Great Hall; he brought a real gold plate.
With his back hunched, Kreacher placed one exquisite dish after another on the table.
The cream of mushroom soup was steaming, the steak was sizzling, and there was also roast chicken, boiled potatoes, fried asparagus... and finally, golden Yorkshire pudding.
I really don't know how it manages to make so much stuff in just one hour.
Moreover, since the Blake mansion has been uninhabited for many years, would they still keep so much food on hand?
Hesitantly, Xilun cut off a piece of steak and put it in his mouth; the aroma instantly filled his mouth.
The fact that it has a smell proves that it's real food, not a fake product created through transformation.
"Kreacher, do you usually prepare this much food here?" Siren couldn't help but ask.
“Of course not, sir.” The elderly house-elf tilted his head proudly. “This is what Kreacher just bought. His mistress gave him money to buy food, and he has been keeping it.”
Buy... Oh, right, house-elves can Apparate and are not subject to any wizarding magic.
If he acts quickly, Kreacher should be able to buy what he wants in just a few minutes.
Having confirmed this, Xilun ate with peace of mind.
While eating, he also chatted with Kreacher.
After witnessing Siren destroy the locket, Kreacher's attitude towards him completely reversed.
As long as Xiren's questions didn't involve the secrets of the Black family, it was almost always answered... it even answered some less important secrets.
“Oh, right, Kreacher,” Sirius suddenly remembered something, “Sirius told me before that a horn of a horned beast is preserved here, is that true?”
“Kreacher doesn’t know what a horned beast is, sir,” the house-elf replied in a high-pitched voice. “But if you’re referring to the collection of magical creatures, the mistress gave them to Miss Cici before she passed away.”
“Sissy?” Celen thought for a moment, then asked, “Who is that?”
“Miss Cissy is now Lucius Malfoy’s wife, sir.”
Upon hearing this, Xilun found out.
Narcissa Malfoy, Cici must have been her original name... well, I guess.
Xiren wasn't in the mood to think about any of that; his attention was focused on the words Kreacher had said.
They were all given away by the woman who used to be the owner of this place! "Oh, I should have guessed it would be like this..." Sirius muttered to himself, "Sirius hasn't come back here since he graduated, what good are his promises now?"
“Sir, what did you say?” Kreacher asked. “Sirius…Young Master, did he lie to you?”
“Well, not really,” Xilun shook his head and said, “After all, he himself doesn’t know the situation of the old house.”
Kreacher stared, seemingly lost in thought, and quickly left.
Xilun didn't mind; it was a rare treat to have a normal meal without garlic.
Kreacher finally reappeared just as Siren had eaten and drunk his fill and was preparing to leave.
And at this moment, it was also dragging a heavy bag in its hand.
"What is that?" Xilun asked casually.
He really just asked casually; anyone who saw this would probably have reacted the same way.
But to Silen's surprise, Kreacher immediately started taking things out of the bag, and he was explaining them as he did so.
“These are Master Regulus’s favorite candlesticks. He often did his homework by candlelight.” Kreacher placed a pair of exquisite candlesticks on the table.
Xilun glanced at it; it was pure silver with intricate runes engraved on it. Its function was likely a permanent lighting spell; it would emit light with a gentle tap on the candlestick.
Siren tried it and felt it should be called the Everlasting Candle Charm.
Because the candlestick did not emit a white ball of light like the Illumination Charm, but rather a small flame with little heat, only emitting light.
Before Siren could finish looking at it, Kreacher placed another tapestry in front of him.
“This is also something that Master Regulus liked, and Kreacher has always treasured it.”
The tapestry looked dirty, probably left in some corner for a long time, but Xilun just picked it up and shook it slightly, and all the dust slid off, revealing the silvery-white fabric.
Yes, the dust slid down, feeling like water droplets on glass.
This peculiar phenomenon, coupled with its silvery-white color... it's undoubtedly unicorn fur.
Moreover, unlike Hagrid's unicorn cushion, this tapestry uses tail hairs of roughly the same color and length.
A single unicorn tail hair can now sell for nine Galleons, and even a lower-quality one will cost six Galleons.
This square tapestry is about three feet long and wide; how much could it sell for...?
Xilun felt a little dizzy.
But the matter was not over yet. Kreacher then took out other things: gold medallions, pearls that shimmered with purple light, and all sorts of other small items.
"What are you doing?"
“This is for you, sir,” Kreacher said loudly, “as compensation for Sirius… for deceiving you.”
“No, Kreacher, you’ve misunderstood,” Sirius explained. “Strictly speaking, Sirius didn’t intentionally deceive me, and we are friends.”
“Then you can accept it, sir.” Kreacher winked. “Young Master Sirius will certainly not mind if Kreacher gives his friend a small gift.”
