Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 291 Potential Clients and Werewolves
Chapter 291 Potential Clients and Werewolves
"Other werewolves?" Lupin stood there in confusion, seemingly not expecting Xilun to ask this question.
“Yes.” Xiren nodded and continued, “But I’m referring to those werewolves who don’t actively bite people and, like you, just want to survive.”
“Of course, I know a lot,” Lupin said.
"Can you contact them?"
Lupin didn't answer, but looked at Xilen seriously and said, "Xilen, there's something I must remind you: never approach a werewolf, because no one can really be sure whether a werewolf is good or bad."
"Can't you do it either?" Xiren asked.
“Yes, I can’t either,” Lupin said. “I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but that doesn’t matter, because I’m not going to tell you anything about werewolves.”
“I’ve seen too many werewolves who were originally very nice, but for various reasons, they’ve become manic and irritable, and started attacking other wizards,” Lupin continued, his expression serious and earnest.
"The reasons for all of this are actually quite simple. It could be a heavy rain, or it could be a wizard's gaze. In short, no one can guarantee that a werewolf's personality will always be good."
“But you are an exception, Professor Lupin,” Celen said.
“I appreciate you saying that, Siron,” Lupin said, his expression unchanged. “That’s why I can’t tell you anything about werewolves. Whatever you want to do, give up.”
Lupin turned and left after speaking, giving Xilun no time to explain... Just as he had said before, no reason would do.
Only after Lupin's figure disappeared into the crowded Diagon Alley did Siron shrug helplessly.
He had originally intended to expand his clientele to include... those werewolves without wands.
In Siren's view, they were the best potential customers because werewolves couldn't obtain wands through legitimate means, and illegal wands were even more expensive, which they couldn't afford.
In this way, if they could have their own wand, they would cherish it even more, which is also a form of recognition.
Of course, Siren couldn't possibly provide wands to all werewolves, which is why he sought out Lupin.
Birds of a feather flock together. Lupin must know where those werewolves, like him, who wouldn't actively bite other wizards and just wanted to live a peaceful life, were.
These werewolves are Xiren's target.
But he overlooked one point... a normal wizard's nature could change, let alone a werewolf.
The monthly transformations and the hostility of the surrounding wizards towards werewolves constantly tormented their fragile nerves, causing their sanity to be constantly on edge, on the verge of collapse.
Providing them with wands at this point might even accelerate the breakdown process. After all, werewolves are also wizards, and for wizards, having a wand is equivalent to possessing power.
And power is the most difficult thing to control.
It would be terrible if things went wrong.
"That was still too hasty." Xilun took a deep breath and rubbed his face.
He will still consider werewolves as potential clients, that won't change. But when it comes to actually offering them wands, he'll have to be more cautious.
Not yet, at least not now; he needs a catalyst.
"Let's wait a bit longer," Xilun said, glancing at the pet shop next door.
In the shop window was a beautiful salamander, dozing in a cluster of flames.
Xilun stared at the flames, which seemed to form some peculiar shape as they flickered.
Fire divination, or fire prophecy, involves sorcerers with prophetic abilities seeing revelations in the shape and smoke of flames. The most famous among these sorcerers are centaurs. Centaurs can obtain desired information by observing the changes in smoke produced when certain herbs are burned; this is also a form of fire divination.
What Xiren just saw was that the flames and smoke formed the shape of a lightning bolt, just like the scar on Harry's forehead.
This is a good shape, meaning the answer he wants will appear soon.
"Hmm...it might just be a coincidence," Xiren muttered to himself, after all, all his divinations about himself had failed before this.
However, Siron didn't dwell on it for too long. After Lupin left, he turned around and went back into the wand shop.
By this time, the new student had received his own wand and went to another shop with Professor Flitwick.
Only Garrick remained in the shop, tidying up the few wands on the counter. He simply tapped the table lightly, and the wands returned to their boxes and floated back to their original positions.
Without lingering, Xilun went straight upstairs and found an envelope on the table.
The front of the envelope featured familiar cursive lettering.
"To Mr. Siron Ollivander, Merpta Arena, Cairo, Egypt, row 7, number 35."
It seems he hadn't returned yet when this letter was sent.
Number 35 in row 7, was it yesterday or the day before yesterday?
Oh right, it should have been the day before yesterday. He remembered that he had something to do yesterday and arrived late, so his seat was even further back.
Xilun opened the envelope and took out the parchment inside.
The first card is the same as always, reminding him to take the Hogwarts Express from King's Cross Station on September 1st, the first day of school.
The second list shows the things I need to buy for the new semester. There aren't many, just three new books.
"Standard Spells, Level 4" by Miranda Goschak. Needless to say, there's one book per year, from Level 1 to Level 7.
Then there's *An Explanation of Ancient Runes* by Edgar Rooneyforth, and *The Magical Phonetic Tables* by Septima Spellman.
Both of these are new books needed for the course on ancient runes. If you haven't chosen this course, you don't need to buy them.
Xilun doesn't need to buy them either; these two books are considered basic textbooks for learning runes, and he happens to have both.
Siren continued reading but did not find any books related to Defense Against the Dark Arts.
There are only two possibilities: either Headmaster Dumbledore hasn't found a new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and without a professor, he naturally doesn't know which books to buy.
Or perhaps it's simply not needed.
Every young wizard bought a copy of Quentin Trimb's "Dark Powers: A Guide to Self-Defense" when they started school.
Although they bought this book in first grade, the content was enough for them to study until fifth grade. For example, Professor Lupin used this book last year (although Lupin rarely used it in class).
If we really had to pick a textbook for third-grade Defense Against the Dark Arts, I think "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" would be more appropriate.
"So, will the professor who came this year be a fake again?"
Xiren glanced out the window, then folded the parchment and put it back in the envelope before leaving the wand shop again and heading towards Flourish and Blotts.
