Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 218 Crystal Ball
Chapter 218 Crystal Ball
The school resumed classes the next day.
The first class was Hagrid's Conservation of Magical Creatures class, which received two completely different opinions from the students because of a huge Cerberus "teaching assistant." Those who liked it wished they could spend the whole day next to the Cerberus, as it was their only chance to get close to it without worrying about being bitten.
Of course, most people still don't dare to; they dream of modifying the course.
But it was impossible to revise the curriculum before the end of the school year, so they had no choice but to bite the bullet and stay on the field.
Perhaps Professor McGonagall's persistent persuasion had an effect, because this time they did not see the mountain-like figure on the field, but only a few bonfires burning brightly.
Upon closer inspection, they discovered that something seemed to be darting around in the campfires, causing the flames to flicker and sway.
"Does anyone know what this is?" Hagrid asked. After being a professor for half a year, he was no longer as nervous as he had been at the beginning, and he spoke quite confidently.
When Hagrid asked the question, his eyes instinctively looked in Hermione's direction.
Sure enough, Hermione raised her hand high the next second.
“Very good, Miss Granger.”
“It’s a fire salamander,” Hermione said.
“Absolutely right, five points for Gryffindor,” Hagrid said with a smile.
"Tsk..." A strange sound came from the crowd. Hagrid initially thought it was Slytherin causing trouble again. Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly realized that the person was Ron.
Hagrid thought he was seeing things, but he soon realized he wasn't; the atmosphere between Hermione and Ron was indeed a bit strange... they weren't standing together.
Did you have a falling out?
Hagrid was lost in thought, but since class was still in session, he couldn't ask too many questions. So, while everyone was collecting firewood and leaves nearby, he casually walked up to Harry and whispered:
"What happened between you and Hermione?"
“No, nothing,” Harry stammered. “It’s just that we disagreed on some things.”
He didn't know how to tell Hagrid. He couldn't very well tell him that they were having a fight because Hermione had made the right decision to save his life.
As I said before, Harry understands all the道理 (principles/reasons), but there are some things that reason cannot control.
Seeing his expression, Hagrid didn't ask any more questions.
……
After class, everyone reluctantly left the venue.
On a chilly, damp January morning, it would be really interesting to sit around a warm campfire and observe the salamanders inside... It would be even better with a butterbeer.
The second period in the morning was a divination class. Professor Trelawney was as mysterious as ever in class. Sheren asked to buy a crystal ball, but was refused.
Professor Trelawney told him that every real fortune teller has their own crystal ball, and it is definitely not something they buy.
"If we don't buy it, are we supposed to make it ourselves?" Xilun asked. "But I don't know how."
But at this point, Professor Trelawney chose to remain silent and did not answer Siron's question.
"Don't even think about it. If you ask me, she's just being deliberately mysterious." Leaving the tower, Harry looked at Hillon and said, "If it's really as she says, why are there so many crystal balls in the classroom?"
"Besides, I've seen shops selling crystal balls in Diagon Alley, and those on their shelves can't just be decorations, can they?"
Xilun also thought so.
However, compared to the new crystal ball, he still preferred the one he often used in class, as it felt very convenient to use.
In the afternoon, while others could relax in the common room after lunch, Siron had to go up to the third floor for his weekly Ancient Rune class. The teacher was Professor Babling, a very fashionable witch who, unlike most wizards who wore the same robes, preferred various jeans and women's jackets.
That outfit made him one of the most fashionable people, even among Muggles.
However, her classes were actually quite empty; even with students from all four colleges combined, they couldn't fill even half of the smallest classroom.
The third-grade curriculum mainly focuses on recognizing and translating ancient runes, which is really boring for Xilun.
Moreover, Professor Babling never answers questions outside of the course, which makes it even more boring.
So, to kill time, Xilun would usually do some homework or something else during this class. Professor Babling didn't care; as long as he didn't deliberately cause trouble or make too much noise, he could do whatever he wanted.
In this lesson, they planned to translate a medieval document.
It wasn't anything particularly important; it was just a biography about the witch Cleopatra.
Siren finished translating in just twenty minutes, then put the parchment aside and began working on today's homework for the "Protecting Magical Creatures" class—"On the Relationship Between Fire and Flame in Salamanders."
By the time he finished writing this, it was almost time for get out of class to end.
Only then did a second person finally complete all the translation work.
Hermione put down her quill and rubbed her throbbing forehead.
She chose too many courses, and the ancient runes were unexpectedly difficult. Every time she finished a class, her head would feel buzzing.
“I suggest you take two fewer courses,” Celen said softly. “Judging from your expression, it’s like you didn’t have a Christmas break. What have you been doing these past two weeks?”
"Do your homework, and preview the lessons you'll be doing later." Hermione looked up at Celeste. "I thought you were like them, unwilling to talk to me anymore."
“I’m not that into Quidditch,” Celen said with a shrug.
“So do you think I did something wrong?” Hermione suddenly became serious and asked, “Should I tell Professor McGonagall about the Firebolt?”
"Half and half," Xilun said after thinking for a moment.
"What does it mean?"
“That means… you and they both have your points,” Sirius said. “That fire bolt might really have been a gift from Sirius.”
“You think so, right? If that’s the case, then we should definitely tell the professor, shouldn’t we?” Hermione said with delight, even more convinced of her idea.
At the same time, her mood improved considerably, and she gave Xilen a satisfied look.
“You are definitely more rational than those guys whose minds are only on Quidditch. They only care about the Quidditch Cup and never think about Harry’s life or death. Oh, and Harry himself is the same.”
"Don't worry," Xilun waved his hand, "but that fire bolt is definitely fine."
“Why?” Hermione asked, her tone becoming increasingly aggressive. “You also believe it was a gift from Sirius Black, don’t you? How could he not have tampered with it…”
“Because the fire bolts were delivered by the Quidditch boutique,” Siron interrupted her.
"What...did you say?" Hermione was stunned, completely unexpected that Celeste would say that.
“I mean, the Quidditch shop staff received the order and Galleons, and then delivered the Firebolt to Hogwarts according to the address,” Siron repeated.
"Almost everyone in Diagon Alley knows about this. The fire bolt was delivered directly from the shop to Hogwarts and was never touched by anyone other than the shop assistants. Of course, it's impossible for anyone else to have tampered with it."
