Chapter 492 Caves and Skeletons

Chapter 492 Caves and Skeletons

The pattering sound was the blood and gore falling from the entrance at the top of the cave.

Ruge and Mahama strolled along, gradually fading the sound far behind them until it was completely inaudible.

The old demon was still nowhere to be seen, but some footprints could be seen on the ground, traces inevitably left by his journey stained with blood.

Neither of them used the Light spell.

Ruger regulated his breathing and observed this wondrous place.

The cave appears to be natural, but there are many places where bones are exposed. For example, the upper part of the cave we just walked through looks like a huge object that fell here in a very distant era. The cave's naturalness is due to its antiquity.

Ruger speculated that this behemoth was a humanoid creature, yet somewhat different, possessing some unique characteristics of its own.

The cave was far deeper and wider than they had expected, which also demonstrated the enormous size of the humanoid creature.

As Luger walked along, seemingly because he was below the demons' battlefield of flesh and blood, he would occasionally find extremely high-quality blood crystals in corners or on cave ceilings.

The two collected as they walked, each acquiring several portions—not small pieces, but clusters.

Gradually, the cave began to extend downwards.

Ruger raised an eyebrow. This big guy must have died headfirst, or perhaps he fell here when he died, creating a crater.

The winding cave looked like water melting away, but Ruge felt it was the giant's gushing blood, which had flowed for a long time even after his death.

Faced with several forks in the road, Luger and Mahama were quite casual about it. When they got here, the old demon's footprints were no longer obvious, and they would often only see one every now and then. The terrain was also far from flat.

After rounding a bend, Ruger raised his hand in a gesture of greeting.

Both of them slowed their pace and breathing.

From a distance, the old demon appeared to be groping around near a pool.

Ruger peeked out and stared intently. Combining his previous deductions, he concluded that the pool should be an eye socket, and beneath it might be a complete, oddly shaped skull.

The old demon stuffed crystal-clear blood into his mouth while groping around. The blood crystal didn't seem to come from the pool; he had probably collected it along the way. He didn't seem to care when stuffing it into his mouth, but just groped around the edge of the pool.

He even seemed a little exasperated for a moment.

Just as Ruger guessed, these pure, high-quality blood crystals were not the old demon's target.

Tap! Tap—

A series of undisguised footsteps sounded.

Ruger immediately shrank back.

A figure emerged from behind the pool.

If there isn't another entrance or exit over there, then it's been waiting there all along.

The old demon staggered upon seeing the newcomer, completely losing the swagger he had displayed when facing Luger and his companions, along with the rest of the demons.

“I’ve already said it, you are not it… You are just an experiment, an experimental creation. You can never become it, and it has no hope of being resurrected…” The newcomer paused near the pool and said softly.

The words, spoken slowly and deliberately, were remarkably clear in the empty, quiet cave.

Ruger even heard the old demon's breathing quicken for a moment.

"You got injured and separated from us on purpose, didn't you? Hehehe, I knew you'd come here..." the newcomer said softly, his words full of mockery.

This made the old demon's breathing quicken even more.

But just when Ruger thought the old man would go all out, the old devil's breathing suddenly became steady, and he chuckled again. His timid and hesitant manner perfectly matched his bulky clothes.

"I will always be the most loyal demon to you, Master. I was deeply hurt when we were separated last time, and I can't even muster any strength now..."

The old devil transformed into an extremely ingratiating demeanor.

Ruger felt that this guy already had the air of the number one scraggly guy at this moment, but he wasn't verbose enough.

But gradually, he still felt that something was wrong, such as the tone of their conversation and the mention of experimental creations.

Do demons also conduct experiments?

Ruger tilted his head. Perhaps among the demons who came into contact with high-ranking wizards, there might be some special demons with knowledge, but given the tone and manner of his speech, and the fact that he mentioned experiments, one would naturally think of a wizard first. Moreover, Ruger had always felt that this old demon was strange, and that his clothes and speech were quite human.

Ruger turned his head away, and Mahama revealed her mouth, moving it silently.

The lip movements sounded like they were saying a very familiar word—wizard.

Ruger nodded silently, indicating his agreement with his judgment, and then slowly shook his head.

Mahama nodded to indicate that he understood.

If this is the only entrance, then what they need to do now is to find an opportunity to slip away quietly.

To avoid a passionate encounter with that mysterious man and the old demon on this path.

Rumble!
The surroundings were shaking violently, and dust and gravel fell from the cave.

Ruger's eyes lit up; it was the perfect time to leave.

"Several lords have entered the battlefield," the mysterious figure suddenly said. "Did you think this was some hidden place? Did you think you'd found a treasure? That's only true for ordinary demons. For lords, this place is worthless. The five demon lords became what they are now by devouring its flesh and blood, and that's why they gained the favor of the abyss's will. And because of that, it has no hope of resurrection. It has been completely devoured, and the abyss no longer favors it... Even its bones are cracked, and you can feel its leaking aura, but you are not it. You are merely a creation made from a single drop of its dried blood..."

Ruge blinked and looked back at Mahama.

Suddenly, another tremor came from above.

The two, who were already prepared, immediately set off.

The two, who had used a lightness spell while exploring the cave, slowly retreated, silently thanking the old demon as they went.

This place was just right, allowing the two of them to escape the endless carnage that would turn into a bloody mess.

As Ruger listened to the mysterious man's words, he retreated while looking at the bones that were exposed in a corner of the cave. For some reason, he thought of the name of the 751st floor of the abyss: the Abyss of the Sinking. Mahama's teacher had said that the special nature of the Abyss of the Sinking might be that a special demon died here in a very ancient era, belonging to the abyss lord of this floor.

This is probably a guy who doesn't like things that fly in the sky, Ruger thought.

Having traveled a sufficient distance, the two turned around and began to speed up their journey.

Ruger understood what Mahama meant. Both of them were very cautious and chose not to reveal their identities, even though the other party might be a wizard, or even a witch hunter wizard.

Regardless of what the other party is doing, whether it's a private experiment or a commissioned mission, the best approach is to avoid interfering with each other.

Ruger abruptly stopped in his tracks.

"It's been a long time since I've been here. Let me think... it's been way too long... It's really interesting... I didn't expect there to be so many guests here..." A pleasant voice rang out.

Then came a burst of noisy footsteps.

Ruger raised his hand to signal, and the two immediately darted into a side path.
