Chapter 486 Heart-Stealing and Heartbeat
Chapter 486 Heart-Stealing and Heartbeat
Dozens of days passed, and Ruger strolled down the slope, holding the Demon Heart in his hand. Most of the demons that passed by would deliberately keep their distance from him. In this short but not insignificant period of time, he had inexplicably acquired a rather resounding nickname.
Ruger expressed great satisfaction with this.
Upon arriving at the cave entrance, the old demon was still sitting at the very back. In recent days, Luger would occasionally send over some blood crystals. The old demon was very satisfied with his single-minded and loyal performance and promised to lead him to become the demon lord. After the lord completely ruled this layer of the abyss, he would enjoy the blood crystals piled up like small mountains. Then the old demon would nestle inside and slowly eat the blood crystals.
"Lord Heart Seizer..."
A little demon spoke in a strange, trembling abyssal language.
Ruger glanced at it and waved his hand.
The little devils immediately sprang to life, busily carrying the food they had brought into the cave, and then working together like lightning to lift the rest of the food and run away.
In these days, Luger has figured out that the so-called Shattered Bone City is not a city, but a division of status. Intelligent demons enter the city, while other demons, summoned by the lord, come and stay outside the city. These strange, beast-like creatures not only wait outside the city for the bloody battle to begin, but also serve as food during the waiting period.
This huge pit, and the surrounding rings of caves, were prepared for the most intelligent demons, allowing them to vent their unbearable thirst for blood and slaughter, and also determining the ownership of certain identity tokens.
Those responsible for connecting the inside and outside of Shattered Bone City are these weak but somewhat intelligent creatures, such as the little devils responsible for transporting food.
Ruger entered the cave with his newly acquired Demon Heart.
The mount Mahama stared longingly at the two-headed demon, a cunning fellow with magical abilities. Like the old demon who considered himself a true demon, Mahama had his own little quirks, such as his fondness for using controlled flames to roast food. Although it was just simple roasting, it was something Mahama craved. Pleasing the two-headed demon to get roasted meat was one of the few pleasures this frustrated big guy had had these days, even though he also wanted to roast it himself using magic.
To be precise, these two guys have gotten along quite well during this period.
This is understandable, since in this cave, the two-headed demon only dares to face this strong mount demon.
Two poor guys.
Luger glanced at it and started eating the Demon Heart in his hand.
This action, especially the way it started biting down from the side, made one of the two-headed demon's heads tremble.
Snapped!
The other head slapped the guy across the face, and the two heads once again focused intently and elegantly on controlling the flames, roasting the beast's leg.
The demon's heart resembled a round ball of flesh with four black lines running through it, dividing it into four equal halves.
Ruger ate heartily, and couldn't help but roll his eyes when he saw the two-headed demon.
He didn't think there was anything wrong with this thing. Even without the demon disguise, he felt it was no different from when he used to eat raw worms every day.
In the past few days, he calculated that he had eaten about fifty demon hearts. Some were spoils from the bottom of the pit, and some were from the guys who had offended him. Different demon hearts would have slightly different benefits for him, not just to fill his stomach. Of course, if it were an experienced wizard, he might use the demon hearts to make some potions. He was basically choosing the raw materials to eat based on his intuition.
There's no fear of running out of food, as all sorts of demons have been responding to the lord's call and arriving here in droves over the past few dozen days.
Ruger held his hands up in front of him, clenched his fist, and turned to look at the two-headed demon.
The biggest change came after eating this guy's heart. Of course, this was relative to other hearts, and it only slightly improved his control over the fireball spell.
As Luger sensed the changes from consuming the hearts, he concluded that it wasn't simply a matter of one thing being improved, but rather that the various demonic hearts were making the Miserly Demon more like a true demon, thereby incidentally improving other aspects as well. All these improvements stemmed from the overall change in the Miserly Demon.
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, leaned against the cave entrance, and looked diagonally upwards.
There was also a ring of caves there, which he guessed housed some demons who might be at the level of a second-circle wizard in some way. He sensed this because he hadn't seen those demons many times during this period. They didn't seem very enthusiastic about the fighting below, but they weren't averse to the atmosphere either. They would just occasionally come out and go down to the bottom of the pit to tear apart one or two demons.
Ruger observed that he should be able to defeat opponents without overly unusual abilities, provided that it is an undisturbed environment with only him and his opponent, allowing him to relax and perform at his best. Of course, he might suffer some injuries, so he also needs to take post-battle recovery into account.
Ruger looked at the two-headed demon; the scream from one of its heads had once caused him trouble.
However, the influence of the miserly demon seems to have prevented him from giving his all.
Seeing Luger staring at him, the two-headed demon silently handed him a roasted animal leg. Luger hesitated for a moment, then took it without hesitation, as he was a little hungry anyway. Meanwhile, Mahama, who had been eagerly waiting, looked disappointed. Luger raised an eyebrow; this could only be considered a mistaken snatch.
A wizard needs extremely strong mental fortitude, such as the ability to eat a demon alive.
Ruger conveyed his mockery with his eyes, then lowered his head to tear into the half-cooked roasted animal leg.
The mount, Mahama, closed its eyes in pain.
Seeing this, the two-headed demon comforted him and picked up another beast leg. The hind legs of these beast-shaped demons were extremely sturdy, and even ordinary people couldn't bite them.
Suddenly, a chilling shout rang out.
The constant noise outside the cave fell silent.
Although it was his first time here and his first time hearing such a voice, Ruger immediately knew that it was the lord's voice.
During these days, the old demon, who had been holed up in the deepest part of the cave, either eating blood crystals or sitting idly, stood up and looked much better than before.
As soon as the old demon stood up, he hurriedly walked out of the cave, not even caring about his favorite mount.
Ruger also noticed that their rough, cracked bone plaques were getting hot.
Mahama reluctantly stuffed two handfuls of raw food into his hands and followed.
The demons in sight were all moving outwards.
The four demons followed the footsteps of the other demons, staggering all the way to the outskirts of the city, to the oppressive, blood-red sky.
The demons walked and stopped, not gathering together, but deliberately keeping separate.
Luger simply followed the old devil.
Looking out, one could see that an endless number of demons had gathered outside the city. They were of varying heights, some carrying clubs, others carrying boulders. There were strangely twisted humanoid demons, as well as a large number of various beast-shaped demons. Some of them stood upright on two legs, while others had more than a dozen legs or even five or six arms.
Ruger felt suffocated again, but this time not while gazing at the abyss-like sky.
As these demons moved about, the demons that had been stationed outside the city began to gather around them. The bone tablets emitted a strange aura, and different numbers of demons gathered around each tablet.
Ruger looked around. His lowest-ranking sign had already attracted more than forty demons of various shapes and sizes. They were a bunch of smelly creatures, and Ruger was afraid that he would be overwhelmed by their stench.
The old demon had hundreds of them, and he sat back down on Mahama's shoulders.
The pounding of my heart echoed like the sound of war drums on an ancient battlefield.
