Kobold Wizard's Journal
Chapter 416 Knowledge and Worship
Chapter 416 Knowledge and Worship
As each island transformed from a tiny crumb in front of them into a large crumb to the side, Ruger knew that it was not their target.
"Here, consider this a small gift for us."
The wizard Gillian, who was sitting at the very front, suddenly raised her hand and tossed two long, small objects over.
Ruge and Mahama reached out and caught it.
"The Return Stone?"
Mahama spoke up instinctively.
Upon hearing this, Luger also showed a look of realization. Strictly speaking, he had used this thing before, but it was Karyu who had taken him to use it once.
"You can return to the witcher's camp where you came from. It will take about ten magic stones to get there."
"Gillian the Wizard said without turning her head."
Ruge and Mahama thanked them in unison.
Ruger vaguely felt that the wizard was giving this item not because of the demon-hunting event, but because the current environment allowed wizards to sense more unstable factors.
An island shaped like a flatbread gradually enlarged and appeared before everyone's eyes. At first glance, this island was much larger than Lord Kurt's, at least twice the size.
The strangely shaped flying vehicle began to slow down, confirming its destination once again.
Ruger shook his head. If the wind hadn't been so strong, he would have liked to take a nap up there. Mahama, who was sitting next to him, had already started meditating.
As the group of four arrived above the island, a distinct magical fluctuation flashed by, indicating that someone was guiding them from below.
Ruger smiled; it wasn't some kind of secret investigation into demon hunting.
This means it can end quickly.
As he pondered this, he glanced at the retreating figure of the wizard Gillian, wondering how things would ultimately end, as it would depend on the wizard's strength and style of handling matters.
As the alchemical equipment fell.
A short, stout middle-aged man, dressed in a common gray robe, was already waiting there.
Ruger's expression shifted slightly; he was a wizard's apprentice.
If this is the owner of the island, then the difficulty of this event can already be predicted.
However, the unusual thing is that the island is too big, so there is still a possibility of change.
Gillian didn't make a move. After stepping off the alchemy equipment, the witch apprentice next to her walked up beside Gillian and skillfully raised a finger to reveal her identity as a witch hunter.
Meanwhile, the alchemical implements gradually disassembled, transforming from a rudimentary flying device back into seven combs of different styles, which flew back to the back of Gillian's head.
Ruger, like Mahama, had been standing silently behind the wizard, but when the comb fluttered past, he instinctively took a step.
"Welcome, sirs. I am Isaac Mo, and I have been waiting for your arrival ever since I asked a friend to report this to me."
The man named Isaac bowed respectfully, speaking while glancing at the wizard Gillian, clearly recognizing him as the true wizard.
After a brief silence and a brief exchange of glances, Isaac gestured for them to proceed.
"Please follow me, everyone. I live here alone most of the time. I've designated this place as a secluded mountain forest on the island so I can enjoy some peace and quiet and conduct some small experiments."
The middle-aged apprentice led everyone to a small wooden hut not far away. After everyone was seated, he first brewed a pot of hot tea with a unique and refreshing aroma before beginning to explain the reason for the report.
The wizard Gillian seemed quite pleased with the taste of the tea.
Ruger, however, felt that it was not as good as his own fruit tea, which was made from dragon blood black fruit that had ripened and fallen from the ground and was about to spoil. It was baked and made by two of the world's top dragonborn kobold chefs working together.
The middle-aged man named Isaac spoke slowly, while the witch apprentice asked questions from time to time. Lady Gillian, like Ruger and Mahama, sat quietly to the side, drinking tea.
Isaac sighed and put down his teacup.
"This island was left to us after my teacher died. My teacher was a powerful first-ring wizard. For a long time after her death, the three of us managed this island together. It was quite large, and for wizard apprentices, it was a pretty good place for the three of us to occupy. None of us were weak, and together we were enough to hold off those ambitious guys. But then... my teacher's youngest student chose me, and we became husband and wife. Since then, Vargas has rarely appeared in front of us..."
Isaac took a small sip of tea.
“He was the most powerful among us, and by all accounts, he should have become a wizard twenty years ago, but he never did. In fact, he became increasingly withdrawn. Even after my wife passed away, leaving just the two of us, he ignored me completely. Even at her funeral, the little bird that carried my message flew back listlessly. In the end, he never showed up…”
As Isaac spoke, the way he drank tea, every move he made, didn't seem like that of a middle-aged man.
Ruger observed this and thought he resembled an extremely elderly man.
"Could he no longer be there? Or has he passed away?"
The tall witch apprentice spoke from the side and poured Gillian another cup of tea.
Isaac shook his head.
“I’ve thought that way too, and for a while I didn’t dare to look, I couldn’t imagine that I was the only one left on this island. But like I said before, there are some ambitious guys. When those guys set foot on this land, Vargas appeared… He was still as powerful as ever, single-handedly repelling a formidable enemy that I couldn’t defeat. That was enough to prove that he was still there, that he was alive, and that he was doing well… But he looked strange, until two years ago I discovered that the followers in his territory were also strange…”
As Isaac spoke, he seemed lost in reminiscing about the past. He was about to say something more when he was interrupted.
Lady Gillian, who hadn't spoken for a long time, put down her cup, seemingly having had enough of this tea.
“Please lead us to him,” the wizard Gillian said briefly.
Ruge and Mahama immediately stood up.
Isaac, a middle-aged wizard apprentice, was taken aback for a moment upon seeing this, but he quickly got up to make arrangements.
Two well-trained horned pack animals, one large and one small, were led to the crowd.
Ruger, Mahama, and Isaac rode together on the large pack animal, while the wizard Gillian and her tall female apprentice rode on a smaller pack animal.
Soon the two pack animals were galloping through the woods.
After running for a while, he could occasionally see villages and towns outside the woodland. Ruger looked curiously at the people working there and the towns with their strange architectural styles. In every village or town, there were bound to be a few white buildings.
Ruger smiled and looked at Isaac, who was riding with him.
“Your territory intrigues me, so I’d like to ask what kind of deity you are. Your villages all seem very clean,” Ruger said.
Isaac clearly hadn't expected this question to come out of nowhere, but he still responded seriously once he realized what was happening on the beast's back.
“I worship the great god of knowledge and admire that great man. So when I was young, I fantasized about becoming his helper and helping him spread knowledge. So I foolishly made myself the god of books. Because of my willfulness, books have a special meaning on this island. My divine gift will also teach some smart guys to read. When I realized that my aptitude was not good enough to become a wizard, I was too lazy to change my path…” Isaac said with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Ruger raised an eyebrow, marveling at how many worshippers there were of the god of knowledge.
