Chapter 371 Contracts and Notes

Ruger blinked and looked at the smiling Kurt.

The completed contract floated up in front of the two, drifting between them and slowly burning, signifying the establishment of the contract. In the instant it burned out, it left the words of the terms in place, then gradually disappeared completely.

"Actually, you probably guessed it, I don't have any trustworthy friends here. The guy on the next island was quite good, and I was willing to get to know him better, but unfortunately, there's no one there anymore fifteen years ago. Opportunity and disaster are always unpredictable," Kurt said with a smile. "Compared to just finding a passing traveler, some unknown wizard apprentice, or the owners of other islands who might become rivals, I think it's better to find pillars like you. Besides, witch hunters are generally better at dealing with demons."

Ruger felt somewhat embarrassed upon hearing this.

First of all, he is not particularly good at dealing with demons.

The pillar-level organizations are composed of wizards with very different ideas. Of course, in a general sense, they may be better than those wizards whose backgrounds are unknown, but this is only a matter of probability.

For example, the witch hunters who belong to the Holy Tribunal.

Ruger suddenly remembered that Kurt had said he looked forward to cooperating with a legitimate witcher like him. Perhaps Kurt also knew that there were two types of witchers. One type was a penitent, bound by a contract with the Holy Inquisition, who would hunt demons for them to cleanse their sins.

“I will prepare as soon as possible. Those who can become apprentice witch hunters must be very excellent. By the time I am ready, you should have already completed the initial mastery,” Kurt said with a smile. “If you need anything, you can come to Old Ethan’s Blacksmith Shop to find me. I spend most of my time there and have lived there for many years.”

Ruger nodded, indicating that he understood. Although he could understand the meaning of the sentence, it still sounded very unbelievable.

"I will do my best to protect you."

Ruger thought for a moment and said softly.

Kurt smiled, said nothing more, and got up to walk outside.

Judging from his hurried steps, one could almost imagine the rough roar of the old blacksmith Ethan.

The image of the wizard Zorn flashed through Luger's mind.

His assessment of this unconventional wizard was quite positive, including his evaluation of his abilities. It's better to believe in a wizard's strength than his eccentric habits.

Even if a wizard's apprentice is somewhat special, fishing with a wizard's apprentice would likely not result in catching any overly powerful demons.

Ruger watched Kurt's figure disappear, picked up his notebook, and turned back to his room.

Based on their casual conversation at the table regarding the contract, the path of the faith wizard, after countless years of development, while still lacking a supreme wizard at its pinnacle, seems to possess a far more complex system than the Beastmaster wizard path, which once shared a similar fate. It offers far more possibilities and a broader, more diverse range of paths. Ruger believes that while the sheer breadth of the path contributes to its many different ways of being walked, the absence of a supreme wizard, the lack of a single, dazzling figure, is undeniably one reason for the proliferation of diverse gaits and walking styles.

Back in his room, Ruger didn't even know when he sat down or when he rubbed his chin with his hand.

The moment he pushed open the door, his attention was already fixed on the notebook in his hand, and he couldn't wait to open it, wondering whether the door or the notebook was opened first.

As mentioned before, the path of a sorcerer is complex and diverse, so naturally there is a relatively universally accepted, ordinary and unremarkable way of walking. This sufficiently basic and steady gait is exactly what Ruger wants. Of course, this is not the most orthodox one. The true orthodox way of learning begins with choosing a meditation method.

This is a fairly common way for someone to join halfway through.

The notes mention that, just like the diverse development of the faith-based wizarding path, many wizards have also explored alternative paths, developing their own unique and strange paths that are primarily based on their own methods and secondarily on the faith-based wizarding path. Generally, these wizards will use the results of their research on their apprentices. Some lucky individuals can forge their own path while cooperating with their teacher's experiments, and some wizards even provide matching sublimation rituals.

Ruger could tell that Kurt, while writing notes, still greatly admired such people, even though there were certain risks involved.

Kurt mentioned a concept, or idea, which is an important element in shaping one's inner deity. At least in the methods of faith-based wizarding that Kurt had mastered, it was quite important. He had once thought about becoming a student of a wizard and had the opportunity, but the master's experiment, the so-called idea, was different from his own and even conflicted with his, so the matter ultimately did not come to fruition.

Kurt candidly expressed his desires in his notes, and also mentioned that things ultimately did not come to fruition, in order to emphasize to Ruger the importance of ideas.

The concept of the gods also determines their upper limit.

Kurt then cited the bread god as an example. If those rumors were true, and he had always aimed to become the god of cooking, then his potential was extremely low. Even if the Supreme Council intervened and made him the only god in the world to venture into that field, he probably would never become a high-level wizard in his lifetime.

During the chat, Luger also mentioned the Rat God to the other party.

Kurt's assessment of the seemingly indifferent and unambitious wizard apprentice was that he possessed considerable ambition and great aspirations, and that the title of God of the Rat would inevitably be changed in the near future.

A deity like the Rat God, belonging to a specific race, is unlikely to become powerful. However, in the increasingly competitive Endless Sea, it is a smart path. Such deities are more likely to advance to formal wizards if they can find an untouched territory. For example, they could create unique, intelligent creatures that can reproduce through magic and experimentation. Smaller creatures that can reproduce in large numbers would be even better. The Rat God basically meets all of these conditions. He just needs to prepare for his future development by changing his name.

Ruger believed that the guy who kept the rats must have already made preparations.

That was a smart person who knew what he truly wanted.

However, in his notes, when discussing the choice of believers, Kurt stated frankly that among all choices, considering all angles, humanity is always the first priority. Humans are born with wisdom, reproduce in an orderly manner, have varied temperaments, and are all different, both similar and different, full of all kinds of possibilities.
