Kobold Wizard's Journal
Chapter 342 The Distant Place and the Unknown
Chapter 342 The Distant Place and the Unknown
Ruger used his little brain to speculate wildly. This time the teleportation took much less time than last time, so the distance was probably not far, and it might even be somewhere in the Endless Sea.
Ruger stretched his shoulders and quietly looked around.
Right now, this place is clearly crowded with a large number of examinees like him, but of course, they are different because he has already completed the examination and become a so-called qualified person.
Ruger wondered if he should feel a little smug, like a real little dog-headed man, perhaps by wagging his tail.
Of course, he feels more at ease now.
Although he didn't know what the next assessment would look like, at least he no longer had to compete with these guys.
Moreover, he didn't have a tail, nor did Aiskin and Big Shah; none of their kobolds had tails. These seemingly weak kobolds, yet somehow connected to dragons, appeared to have more than one branch. He sometimes pondered these seemingly useless things; perhaps few wizards would waste time studying these weak creatures, especially their evolution.
Ruger saw that some people around him had already started to sit on the ground to rest, or even meditate. Before they came here, they were all facing different situations. Some of them might be in danger. They didn't know what was waiting for them after they arrived here, so they naturally wanted to recover as soon as possible.
Ruger scratched his head and sat down quietly.
Behind him was a short, half-dead tree, a rare sight in this bare place. Its dusty appearance and slightly tilted angle made it look like a comfortable place to lean against.
Ruger sat down on the ground and leaned back comfortably.
This place looks like a large canyon, but it is much less bright than the previous island. On both sides are indistinct mountains that stretch into the unknown distance.
From my initial observation, there were at least two hundred people gathered around him.
Ruger meditated for a while, but then realized there were too many people around and he couldn't concentrate, so he gave up and started looking around again.
Suddenly, he stopped leaning back.
As he leaned back, his head tilted back unconsciously, and he saw a small black dot high up. At first, he didn't pay much attention to it, but upon closer inspection, it seemed that there was more than one small black dot in the sky.
If I'm not mistaken, those little dots should be several wizards standing high in the sky.
Ruger rubbed his chin.
It seemed that a wizard was drawn by his gaze and turned his attention over. Ruger immediately looked away and dozed off. After all, there were quite a few eccentric wizards among those above the wizard level, especially at the first to third ring wizard level. Some wizard apprentices would sacrifice something to successfully advance, which laid the groundwork for future problems. However, many wizards would remain at the third ring level, especially some who had sacrificed a lot to advance. This created many low-level wizards with strange tempers.
Ruger pondered this in his mind.
Since he has already passed the test and is someone whose identity can be revealed with a simple gesture, he was still brought here.
Therefore, the assessment here is probably not as simple as a simple assessment.
Luger suddenly perked up, thinking that there might be some benefits to be gained.
As someone who has passed through this period, and who is in a relaxed mood, it's natural for him to think about these kinds of things.
Ruger pondered, suddenly thinking of his teacher, whose identity was still unconfirmed. He wondered if he was up there, or if not, where he might be. After all, Ruger had already become a Demon Hunter Wizard. Of course, he was an apprentice Demon Hunter Wizard. He thought of Grimm, that guy who always emphasized his apprentice status, an apprentice Seeker of Law, and always stopped Ruger's compliments and teasing. Now, Ruger was like Grimm, able to raise a finger to display a mark recognized throughout the entire underground world, a mark that was enough to convincingly prove his identity.
The High Council of Wizards, a pillar-level organization, the Holy Inquisition, Apprentice Witcher Wizard, Dragonborn Kobold, Lord Ruger.
From what Green said before, it seems that becoming a formal wizard would allow one to get rid of the apprentice title more easily, so this witch hunter wizard should be pretty much the same.
Ruger got up, stretched, and looked around.
In a short while, at least five hundred people had gathered here.
With so many people, it was impossible for him to be the only one who was special; Ruger knew this well, but he didn't know how many of them would be qualified. Suddenly, the nearby wizard apprentices all looked up.
Luger also raised his head.
A middle-aged wizard slowly descended from the sky and finally stopped in mid-air in front of the crowd.
"The trial has been temporarily changed, so those who fail should not be discouraged..."
The man in mid-air spoke slowly, his voice echoing through the canyon.
Ruger looked up at the wizard, then unconsciously raised his eyelids even higher, glancing at the small black dots in the sky that hadn't come down.
"Everything is based on this temporary mission," the middle-aged man said, looking at the crowd below. "The three qualified candidates can now choose to withdraw. If they continue and pass again, they can receive double the merit stones."
Ruger raised an eyebrow. Although he didn't know exactly what it was, he figured it must be something good.
He leaned against the crooked tree, standing there silently.
The other examinees, however, realized that three people had completed the previous round of trials and looked around.
The middle-aged wizard in mid-air remained silent, seemingly giving people time to think.
Suddenly, a murmur of discussion broke out.
Ruger looked in the direction of the sound and saw a slightly complex pattern of shadows light up in the distance. Ruger blinked at the person who was pointing a finger. Although the distance was far and he had only met him once, Ruger still recognized him. He was the impolite guy who had once flapped his wings and stood outside the window to disturb others when the Blood Curse Doll was born.
Although Luger still wanted to call him stupid.
But this guy's actions at this moment made him think deeply. Revealing his identity now was obviously an indication that he was withdrawing from the next round of trials. And this guy always acted as if he knew a lot, or even had inside information.
"My lord, I suffered some injuries during the last trial and have chosen to withdraw," the man said, retracting his raised finger.
Ruger raised an eyebrow but made no move.
Waited for a while.
"The trial begins. I will be watching you from high above, but I will not help anyone. So please do not force yourselves. You can quit at any time. The first step is simple: walk to the end of the canyon and see what's at the end... Even those who quit will receive one hundred merit stones."
As the middle-aged wizard spoke, he turned to the side, as if to make way for the crowd. His figure slowly rose as he spoke, and as his last words fell, his not-so-tall figure gradually became a small black dot.
The wizard apprentices below all looked bewildered and did not rush to move.
Luger was rubbing his chin.
The middle-aged man clearly didn't tell the whole story. The idea that one could get a merit stone even if they chose to quit after seeing the end suggests that these wizards believed many people would still quit even after reaching that point. As for what they saw, it wasn't the end. What to do after that was probably only explained to those who had reached that point and hadn't been eliminated yet.
Ruger stretched his neck; some wizard apprentices had already begun to walk in that direction.
He naturally had to follow suit.
The unreliable teacher is still nowhere to be found, so he naturally has to earn more so-called merit stones on his own. Maybe these can be used to exchange for resources within the Holy Judgment Academy, such as a complete ascension ritual and the materials used for it.
This seems to be using wizard apprentices to do something that isn't easy for a full-fledged wizard to do.
Luger gazed into the dim distance, his mind wandering.
