Chapter 329 Haya and the Dog Head
Chapter 329 Haya and the Dog Head
creak!
The butler pushed open some of the sunken wooden doors, which rubbed against the threshold with reluctant noise.
Ruger had been feeling a bit strange all the way there. People in town said that this nobleman was not of high status, but he was very wealthy. But what he saw was not like that. Although the mansion was large and beautiful, there were very few servants. He had hardly seen any. Various details were not well maintained. The flowers and plants along the way were only given the most basic care to prevent them from growing into weeds.
As the door to the two-story building opened, only Ruger entered with the butler this time.
"Excuse me, but may I ask about Sir Waglen's wife..."
As Ruger walked, he looked around at the furnishings of the room.
“It’s nothing a secret, so please don’t worry about it, sir,” the butler said in a deep voice. “The lady passed away twenty years ago and returned to the embrace of the Twin Gods. All the nobles in the city know that the master was originally very strong, leading a fleet to trade for the great Twin Gods. When the master was away, the lady would always live in this garden… Every time the master returned with the fleet, he would bring back different flower and plant seeds for her… After the lady left, the master aged very quickly, and this incident has aged him even more…”
The old butler spoke softly as he walked.
Ruger pursed his lips. He used to really like these touching stories, but now he felt that in the face of the extraordinary path, the short lives of ordinary people were far too fleeting. Some moving and intense emotions were not even savored before they were gone, becoming dust forgotten in some corner of the world.
For example, if this old butler were to pass away and return to the embrace of the so-called Twin Gods, then everything about them would be lost to history.
Of course, judging from Sir Wagler's appearance, he would likely leave before the weary-looking butler.
"right here……"
A hint of worry flashed across the butler's face, and he stopped after climbing to the second floor.
According to the butler's intermittent words, Sir Waglen did not remarry after his wife's death, meaning that the dear Haya mentioned by the old knight was at least over twenty years old.
"The innermost room?"
"Ruger said softly."
“Yes, Your Excellency the God-giver,” the butler stepped aside and bowed, saying, “May the great God of Spirit Hair protect you…”
The butler's sudden words startled Ruger for a moment, then his smile widened.
He strode forward.
The old floorboards creaked underfoot.
He pushed open the door, and in the spacious bedroom, he was greeted by a fair-skinned and slender young man.
Contrary to Ruger's expectations, the young man was not disheveled after being tormented by the strange dagger. Instead, aside from his exhaustion, he possessed a resolute quality similar to that of the old knight, along with the youthful vigor unique to young people, making him look younger than his twenties.
At a glance, Ruger guessed that this young master Haya probably rarely played with the nobles of his age in the city and had not been exposed to the things that would make him look older and change his temperament.
The slender young man sat by the window, reading a book. The dagger in his hand had become his tool for turning the pages, and judging from his skill, he must have been doing this for a long time.
"The God-giver..."
Haya was startled out of the world of the book by Ruger.
He stared wide-eyed at Ruger's furry head, as if seeing such an exaggerated divine being for the first time.
Ruger pursed his lips. Perhaps the place was too remote, or perhaps, as he guessed, this young master Haya rarely went out.
"You...you are very majestic..."
The boy finally came up with a word.
Ruger's eyes swept over his wrist; the old knight had said there were cuts, but no scars remained.
“You were invited by your father, right? I’m so sorry to trouble you. Actually, I think this is quite good,” the boy said with a smile. “It’s just that I’ll be sleeping longer every day and need to eat more. I can spend the rest of the time reading quietly without being disturbed by others. I think it’s great… and I don’t want to go out and associate with those people in the city anyway.”
"So, sir, you can be more at ease and don't need to worry about me..."
Young Master Haya said with a smile.
Luger laughed too, meaning that if things didn't go well, just collect your pay and leave; there was no need to blame yourself.
Ruger noticed his hand; the dagger was held in his left hand, and it was quite different from what the old knight had described. Now, it was no longer just a intact dagger, but rather a magnificent and beautifully crafted object, with its curved lines, intricate patterns, and even small red and green gemstones inlaid on both sides. He subtly sensed it with his mental energy.
Ruger frowned slightly, but there was no demonic aura about him.
"What's it called?"
Ruge suddenly spoke, startling Haya.
He seemed to have never expected anyone to ask that question.
“I don’t know… but I know it has a name,” Haya said, “but I can’t call it by name yet.”
Ruger stared at the dagger, and for a moment he even thought it might be some kind of marvel.
But after thinking about it, the possibility seems unlikely.
This assessment was indeed not going to go smoothly.
Ruger considered what he could do: first, to step forward and observe carefully, prioritizing safety; second, to try to forcibly remove the dagger, or even cut off the young master Haya's hand. Just because others couldn't do it didn't mean he couldn't.
"Would you mind if I came in and sat down?" Ruger asked with a smile.
Haya immediately stood up and pulled out a chair next to her.
“It’s a bit cramped here. My mother’s bedroom was originally on the other side, and the guest room was downstairs. This is actually a study. I had the bed moved here because I thought the window seat here would be a good place to read, and now it seems like a good choice… At least these books keep me company when no one dares to come near me.” Haya smiled and held up the book in her hand.
Ruger responded with a smile.
The foul-smelling skin was gone in a flash.
This is to confirm that young Master Haya currently harbors no ill intentions.
"I want to give it a try."
Ruger pointed to the beautiful dagger in his hand.
"That could hurt you."
Haya nervously put down the book and handed it over with her left hand.
Luger is already very strong without needing to use the power of the bull.
He smiled and directly grasped the other person's hand, starting to pry open the other person's fingers. Under Haya's pained expression, one finger after another was pried open by Ruger's brute force. The young master Haya endured the whole process without making a sound.
Suddenly, Luger stopped what he was doing.
Haya let out a long breath, trembling.
“I almost lost control. You stopped just in time. This dagger will control me and make me want to stab you with it. Once I lose control, I won’t be able to fight it…” Haya said softly.
Clearly, similar incidents had occurred more than once during this period, such as the death of the servant and the old knight's chest wound.
Ruger ignored what he was saying and fell into his own thoughts.
With a wave of his hand, he summoned Aiskin and Big Fool. The two tall dragonborn kobolds, carrying weapons, suddenly appeared in the room, immediately looking around before finally focusing their gaze on the thin Haya in front of them.
Haya was startled, but calmed down when she saw that they looked similar to Ruger.
"Do as we agreed beforehand."
Ruger said simply.
Aiskin and Big Fool nodded.
The agreement, of course, was to protect his safety. He had already given instructions in advance on general procedures to handle most situations, in order to avoid embarrassment in case of emergencies or situations where things couldn't be said openly. As for now, he realized that he wasn't there to rescue any young master Haya; he was there for an assessment, so he needed to obtain more information. He planned to use a divine artifact technique on the dagger, and to concentrate on using the divine artifact technique, he would definitely need to have two trustworthy people guarding him by his side.
It means that Squeaky didn't wake up, otherwise he would have called everyone who could move.
