Kobold Wizard's Journal
Chapter 327 Self-Improvement and Blasphemy
Chapter 327 Self-Improvement and Blasphemy
With a wave of his hand, Luger stored the three portions of stewed fish strips with tree fruit into the Abyss Bedroom space. He then opened the spatial door and strolled inside.
"Brother Luger!"
The familiar and affectionate address put Luger at ease.
Aiskin hadn't been sleeping for a long time. Ever since she drank the fighter potion made by the Sleep Mushroom, she had been able to hold her own against the perpetually sleeping Squeak.
Ruger even wondered if the dragon bloodline in Aiskin's body had shown signs of resurfacing by chance. He even instructed Aiskin to count the scales on her elbows and other visible parts of her body every time she woke up to see if they had grown larger or more numerous. Unfortunately, short-term observations revealed nothing.
"Wow, Brother Luger, you've got new clothes!"
Aiskin blinked curiously.
"Is it pretty?" Ruger asked with a smile.
Aiskin nodded, then shook her head.
"It smells a bit bad, it doesn't smell like Brother Luger's..."
Aiskin tilted her head and said, while Big Fool nodded in agreement.
The three kobolds began preparing dinner, and of course, they enjoyed the main course that the young waiter had highly recommended.
While eating and drinking, Ruger also gave some advice as a precaution.
The two dragonborn kobolds kept nodding their large heads as they stuffed meat into their mouths and drank soup.
"And you!"
Ruger looked at the back of his hand.
“I know you can hear me. This is a test for you, my loyal and clever servant. I hope you will not let me down…”
"Ruger said softly."
As if to cooperate with Ruger, when he finished speaking, a bump bulged on his shoulder, and the Blood Curse Doll, which had just taken a long nap, raised its head and looked at the back of his hand.
Ruger only felt the hair on the back of his hand twitch slightly.
That's the guy with the scraggly hair, Number One. With the Blood Curse Doll around, he probably doesn't dare to come out and speak anymore.
Ruger curled his lip.
They began attacking the last few pieces of fish on their plates, which were more like hot springs. The dishes at this hotel were quite generous in portion size. Perhaps the waiter had instructed the kitchen staff beforehand, or perhaps they were simply used to serving people like them. These so-called "divinely gifted" individuals were already considered extraordinary, so they all had enormous appetites.
After finishing his own portion, Luger realized that Aiskin and Big Fool hadn't finished eating yet.
After initially wolfing down their food, the two men deliberately left a few pieces of meat and some soup, studying the dish.
Seeing this, Luger stopped bothering him and left the Abyss Bedroom Space.
As for those large plates, leave them there. One more moon coin will be enough to compensate them tomorrow.
The usual bedtime practice, and the full-body spiritual nourishment technique.
Silent all night.
When the sky brightened the next day...
Luger didn't even need to inquire.
He only needed to follow the few seemingly extraordinary people at the same hotel to find the mansion of Sir Wagler.
Everything went so smoothly.
This is what Ruger is thinking at this moment.
A tall, muscular, bald man with dark skin suddenly turned around and looked at Luger, who was slowly following behind him.
His sharp eyes looked like he wanted to devour someone, giving the feeling of facing a ferocious beast.
Ruger simply smiled slightly.
There were only three people when they came out of the hotel, and four including Ruger himself, but as they walked at a leisurely pace, two more so-called divinely gifted individuals appeared.
The bald man looked around, glared at Luger fiercely, and stopped trying to make things difficult for him.
Ruger laughed, finding the bald guy amusing. If it were just the two of them responding to Sir Wagler's call for help, the guy would definitely try to kill him on the way.
From the relatively dirty and chaotic streets, we walked to a clean place, and then from the clean place, we walked to an increasingly dirty and chaotic area. Finally, Sir Wagler's mansion came into view.
The courtyard was large, the gate was grand, and it took a long walk to reach the actual residence after entering the gate. Everywhere he went, he displayed his wealth and the family's past glory.
The pitch-black mansion, at first glance, resembled a crouching, predatory beast.
"Esteemed guests, welcome," a man who appeared to be a butler, his face visibly weary but still maintaining proper etiquette, bowed and said, "Please, esteemed divine beings, follow me..."
Ruger raised an eyebrow, following behind the group while looking around.
The gloomy environment, in stark contrast to the relatively bright street just moments before, seemed out of place, as if the mansion had never existed on that sunny street.
Ruger glanced at the people around him and simply pulled off his mask. He was only wearing a hood, and it was too dim to see his face clearly.
Finally, a sliver of light appeared at the end of the narrow corridor.
"Distinguished guests, this way please..."
The butler carefully stood to the side, assuming a near-perfect posture from his waist and legs to his neck and forehead.
Following his directions, the group walked toward the light.
In a large hall, bookshelves that reach the ceiling line both sides, and in the center of the somewhat empty hall are several rather nice-looking sofas.
"Welcome, and please forgive this old man's rudeness."
A frail old man sat alone in a chair, almost as if he were embedded in it, with a dark, thin blanket covering his legs.
The divinely gifted individuals, without needing to be invited, casually took their seats on the surrounding sofas.
The frail old man saw this but said nothing.
Ruger knew that these divinely gifted individuals came here not only for personal gain but also to spread their fame. Many of these wandering divinely gifted individuals were intentionally released by religious wizards to do things that conformed to their doctrines and promote the reputation of their so-called god. Even if they couldn't directly seize a country or island, they still wanted their names to spread far and wide. Seemingly useless actions might come in handy at any time.
Ruger glanced at them; most of the divinely gifted individuals present, with their varied expressions, were probably like this.
That is to say, there is a god behind it, a wizard.
Looking at their serious expressions, Ruger couldn't help but chuckle at the thought that behind them might be a wizard apprentice picking his toes.
"Regarding my son... my dear Haya, you must have heard of his misfortunes. To be frank, you are the second group of divinely ordained individuals since I posted this notice..."
The old man suddenly gasped for breath as he spoke, and he picked up his cup and took a sip of water.
The divine beings watched him quietly, none of them showing any impatience.
“But I never expected so many divinely gifted beings to arrive all at once in such a short time… Please rest in the manor. Haya can only see about three people a day now, otherwise he will be in great pain. His periods of lucidity are also limited…”
As soon as the old man finished speaking, the divinely gifted individuals finally showed signs of change.
You should know that they represent more than just themselves.
The group looked at each other, and the tall, bald man on the side looked first at Luger on the sofa to his right.
Ruger just smiled and casually pulled off the hood that had been covering his ears all the way, revealing his big dog head. Although it wasn't very bright here, that inhuman head immediately attracted everyone's attention.
The casual smile that Luger wore at the corners of his mouth became particularly intimidating at this moment.
"My lord, you...you must have received many blessings from the gods..." the old man said, his voice trembling with emotion.
Ruger remained silent, simply smiling as he looked at him.
“Haya’s strange illness actually stems from a dagger,” the old man said with some pain, though it was unclear whether it was heartache or physical discomfort, he continued, “That dagger is like it’s become one with his right hand. From then on, he became unlike himself, but he can’t let go of that dagger no matter what. He even used that dagger to cut open a maid’s chest… I tried to cut off his hand, but the wound heals quickly…”
"Why did he pick up that dagger? Please don't hide anything from me."
This was the first time Ruger had spoken since he sat down here.
The trembling old man paused for a moment, as if he had made some kind of decision.
“He said he had found a way to receive divine gifts, but I think it was just a dream where he was called by a god… This happens often, it was just a test from a god for the child… He even devoutly wanted to cut open his own chest…” the old man said in a deep voice.
Luger understood as well.
It's definitely better to have outsiders handle this kind of thing. Even if the Twin Temples weren't blocked by thorns, this old guy probably wouldn't easily seek help. That would be his last resort. After all, attempting to bypass the gods and obtain supernatural power can be considered blasphemy on some islands with strict religious wizards. Of course, islands with ordinary wizard apprentices aren't so strict. The reason is simple: there are many troublemakers, and some islanders are always lured by other gods to become some inexplicable divine gifts.
Ruger even believes that among those who claim to have been favored by a deity in their dreams and thus received benefits, there may also be some who want to change their own destiny.
