Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 310 Doubt and Speculation

Chapter 310 Doubt and Speculation
After a moment's thought, Luger lifted his foot and walked towards Blackhorn City in the distance.

“Miss Nana Erz, you can continue with your business. I’m here to wait for someone I have an appointment with,” Ruger said, glancing curiously at the clumsy figure running in the distance. “I may need to rest in Blackhorn City for a few days… Is that your friend? He doesn’t seem to be a superhuman. Could he be one of your students?”

The slightly taller girl stood awkwardly to the side while the two of them were talking; Nana Erz came to the edge of the cliff without her.

Knowing the situation here, Luger was no longer anxious. Perhaps if he rested in Blackhorn for a while, everything would be resolved.

"No, it's not that she's following me, it's that I'm following her."

The petite girl also began her journey to Blackhorn.

Her words surprised Ruger.

As the two continued walking, they closed the distance with the tall girl, who finally caught up, panting.

The first thing he did upon approaching was to bow, behaving entirely like a servant.

Moreover, he seemed very reserved, as if he was nervous in front of the two wizard apprentices.

Luger walked toward Blackhorn, with Nana Erz naturally walking beside him.

As the two walked, the girl in the old dress, still panting, consciously lagged behind a distance and followed silently, behaving as if she wouldn't disturb their conversation at all.

“I’m very abnormal…” Nana Erz suddenly spoke, “For example, the moment you appeared on the teleportation circle, I sensed a familiar aura, something a normal wizard apprentice couldn’t do…”

Ruger rolled his eyes inwardly.

More than anything else, he wanted to know what it meant to follow that girl in the gray dress. As for the unusual things about her, Luger could understand them all, as evidenced by the way he rolled his eyes.

"Your fur is softer now."

Nana Erz suddenly said.

Ruger strolled along, raised an eyebrow, and gave a smirk in agreement.

"So what are you planning to do next?" Ruger asked.

He has indicated that he will stay in Blackhorn to rest. In his opinion, someone like Nanarz will inevitably take new actions after the target goes wrong.

"Follow her."

The petite girl said.

Following an ordinary person? Ruger blinked.

"Is there any benefit?" he said.

Nana Erz nodded.

“I have a suspicion…” she said thoughtfully.

Ruger raised an eyebrow and glanced at her.

“After I left the Nightmare World, my symptoms didn’t improve. I thought about it for a long time. I’m just a wizard apprentice, but sometimes I have knowledge that I shouldn’t know,” she said, distressed. “I don’t know where I came from. After a lot of effort, I remembered that I suddenly appeared near that camp and then met you. I only know that I was an apprentice who accepted a quest, and that completing the quest would allow me to return to the Cave World…”

The more Ruger listened, the less he dared to interrupt.

There was a moment of silence between them.

"What's so special about that girl in the gray dress?" he casually changed the subject.

The petite girl's shoulders trembled.

"This is the key point, and it was seeing her that led me to have many guesses and doubts..."

As she spoke, she glanced back and saw the girl in the gray dress following them at a distance.

"She is a powerful witch."

The petite girl said confidently.

Ruger paused slightly, then resumed his normal pace. “Some wizards’ paths to transcendence are quite peculiar. Even the most gifted among geniuses will encounter a period where progress becomes difficult, until they stagnate. At such times, some people will forge alternative paths,” the small girl said in a low voice. “She is part of a powerful wizard…”

Ruger's heart skipped a beat upon hearing this, and he turned around in surprise.

The girl in the old dress happened to look up and saw Luger turn around. She quickly and timidly lowered her head, gripping the sides of her skirt with both hands.

Ruger withdrew his gaze. He naturally did not doubt the judgment of the person beside him, but simply marveled at the wonder of the wizarding world.

“You mean…” he began softly.

"I doubt!"

Nana Erz looked calm, but her tone was anything but.

"I might also be a test subject of some wizard, or even a part of some wizard," the petite figure said, laughing again, with that unique, understated smile. "But isn't that interesting? If that's the case, it will be an interesting challenge. I will definitely become the leader, even if I'm just the weakest part, I will definitely be the one who ultimately wins..."

Ruger opened his mouth and gave a similarly shy smile.

"So you're observing her?" he said.

Nana Erz nodded, a gentle smile on her face.

“Observation is only a secondary objective. I will invest some resources in her at the right time and in the right way,” she said with a smile. “Whether my guess is correct or not, it is a good choice. If my guess is correct, she will bring me more rewards in the future and make it easier for me to become the final winner.”

"If my guess is wrong, and it's just a figment of my imagination after my mental space was damaged, then it's still a good gain. Of course, you can participate too." She maintained her smile.

Judging from her expression, Ruger was already quite certain of his problem.

The so-called erroneous conjectures probably only apply to that kind of hypothesis.

Ruger naturally did not respond casually to the invitation to invest together.

The two walked and stopped, finally entering Blackhorn City. The reason they stopped was to wait for the stubborn girl in the gray dress who had been following behind them. She hadn't seemed to be in good condition from the beginning, and the two's waiting made her even more reserved and frightened. She lowered her head and followed behind.

Strange little braziers stand on every street corner in the city. Luger can sense that the stone pillars beneath the braziers are absorbing the unique aura permeating the Black Valley region, so that the braziers can ignite with pale green flames.

The passersby were all bathed in a ghastly green light.

Ruger raised his eyebrows slightly after walking for a while.

“If this continues, she’ll die, won’t she?” Ruger said softly.

“It’s just observation, I won’t actually kill her…” Nana Erz said crisply, “Don’t you think this is interesting? Do you think this is her original personality? Or will each of her multiple personalities be different after she’s been split into several different versions of herself…”

Ruger secretly rolled his eyes.

The two men's hushed movements seemed to make the girl following behind nervous. After entering the city, she followed them closer and could see their posture more clearly.

She mustered her courage and took two quick steps.

"My lords, please don't send me away. I will become an excellent attendant. I will definitely do it..." the girl said, trying her best to stand up straight, while secretly clenching the hem of her skirt with one hand.

Ruger turned around and nodded, somewhat puzzled. The girl didn't seem afraid of his hairy, strange face.

His nod reassured the girl, and she slowed her pace again to create some distance between them.

Ruger then turned around and asked curiously, "What is she trying to get from you?"

Nana Erz said calmly, “She’s from a distant town. What she wants is very simple… just a job, an opportunity to work in Blackhorn City. But as you can see, this is a wizarding city, full of extraordinary beings. Ordinary people here will fall ill very quickly… So she longs for a Fighter’s Potion so she can work here. The income from Blackhorn City is enough to feed her younger siblings back in town…”

"Many people here are like this, such as the tavern waiters. They are unable to support knight training, nor do they know those things. The best choice for them is the basic fighter potion to quickly become a superhuman. They don't even know how to fight. They become fighters just to avoid getting sick while working and living here..."

The petite girl spoke in a clear, crisp voice, seemingly already used to the place after only a short time here.

Ruger curled his lip. In fact, there were similar figures in the City of Blood. For example, in the shops that rented pack animals, apart from a few wizards’ trusted followers, most of them came from villages and towns on the edge of the wasteland. Most of them had also drunk the basic warrior potion and could do some basic work after success.

The girl in the old dress behind them clearly didn't have the money to buy the medicine properly.
