Chapter 306 Taste and Chewing
Chapter 306 Taste and Chewing
Ruger raised his hand and scratched his head.
"Hehe, you little thing, just live on in peace," old Lunser suddenly spoke up, "Your progress is already quite rapid, just let nature take its course—"
Jenny, who was busy with her back to them, suddenly raised the short-handled spatula in her hand, and old Lenser immediately let out a silent sob.
“Don’t influence Ruger’s judgment,” Jenny said, displeased.
Old Lenser gave him a helpless look.
Jenny swung the spatula again, and old Lenser's head drooped down.
But Ruger knew that the guy was definitely rolling his eyes with his head down.
“Aunt Jenny, I think Uncle is right. I also want to go to other places and meet more people, and I’ve already made an appointment with someone,” Ruger said, then, as if afraid she wouldn’t believe him, he took out a small, round, black gadget. “A wizard wants to take me in as his student…”
"Ah."
Jenny, busy with her work, nodded.
This seems to indicate agreement with Ruger's statement.
“This is an artifact made from a demon's horn, and it seems to be of a high rank. It's even been soaked in the blood of a high-ranking demon. You shouldn't have any contact with wizards of this level,” Jenny said slowly. “It should be a low-ranking wizard who is closely related to it. This guy seems quite sincere... He really admires our little Ruger. Hmm, you've persuaded me. I was originally planning to forcibly take you away…”
Ruger held the small, dark object and blinked as he sat at the dining table.
He was still fantasizing about creating a miracle to help old Lenser, but little did he know that he almost got himself involved.
"All right!"
Jenny placed the last dish and soup at the head of the table.
"We can begin to enjoy dinner now."
Jenny clapped her hands in front of her as she spoke, examining the table gradually being filled with food, a satisfied look on her face.
She sat down in the chair and looked at the uncle and nephew from left to right.
Ruger was immediately infected by her smile, as if she were doing something very exciting.
As she finished speaking, old Lenser regained his freedom, his wrinkled, sagging face drooping as he looked at the food on the table.
Looking at the two people at the table, Ruger suddenly realized that Jenny's smile, her joy, and her sense of happiness were all genuine. Perhaps his previous speculations about the contract between her and old Lenser were biased.
Jenny was still a mystery to him. The last time he asked about Jenny, old Lenser only talked about the relationship between Jenny and him, and only about their relationship. He didn't mention the identity of this Aunt Jenny.
“Little Ruger, don’t just stand there. I sense several strange forces of destiny within you, some extremely hidden and powerful. You need to eat your fill to have the strength to fight against fate,” Jenny said with a smile, serving him some soup. “Try this. I originally wanted to take you away, but that might not be a good choice. However, I thought it might be able to protect you…”
The serene lady spoke as she began to portion out the strange food onto the plates in front of the two of them.
Ruger stared at the wriggling, finger-like thing in front of him, thinking about Jenny's words.
He held the cutlery, gently lifted the fidgeting knuckles into his mouth, and found it to be crisp and crunchy, the taste of some kind of plant.
Ruger closed his eyes and savored it. Once it entered his mouth, it stopped moving around. It was exceptionally delicious when chewed carefully. As soon as it entered his stomach, he felt his spiritual energy surge.
"Little Ruger, try this one too."
Jenny smiled, seemingly very pleased with the look of enjoyment on Ruger's face as he tasted it.
“You can go slowly, there’s no rush…” Jenny said from the side.
Old Renser sat across from him, eating silently.
Ruger opened his eyes, which were bright, and with a smile, picked up another strange object from the plate and put it in his mouth.
The food Aunt Jenny put on his plate was clearly something he could handle, perhaps even gradually. He could clearly feel that his mental strength had been steadily increasing since he ate the finger-shaped plant, and it hadn't stopped yet.
As the food entered his mouth, another warm current flowed from his waist and abdomen to his back, and finally to his shoulders and arms. Then, without realizing it, he felt relaxed and comfortable, and had a feeling of wanting to fall asleep. When he came to his senses, his mental space was warm and cozy, and seemed to be more integrated and stable.
“Little Luger’s foundation is really good, it looks like he can continue eating…” Jenny looked very happy.
Ruger was actually feeling a little dizzy. He felt that his fur seemed to be more beautiful, and he might have reached the initial completion stage of the Spirit Hair Nourishment Technique, which is the minimum requirement for the Hair Shepherd's Ascension Ritual.
Ruger ate one dish after another. Facing the powerful Aunt Jenny, he was naturally not afraid of eating anything wrong, nor was he worried that she would harm him.
Before I knew it, the raindrops by the window had turned into a hypnotic sound.
Luger occasionally sipped the slightly sour but not bad soup, and amidst Jenny's repeated exclamations, he ate one strange but still delicious thing after another. Occasionally, the taste was hard to describe, but it wasn't bad either.
A light drizzle kept falling on the window.
It rang in Luger's ears.
After some time, Ruger stretched his neck and lifted his head from the dining table.
The surroundings were dark, the blood rain was still falling, and the light of the blood sun was almost nonexistent.
The old Lunser Pharmacy was quietly enveloped in the sound of rain.
Ruger removed his elbow from the table; he had somehow fallen asleep on the table, and it seemed he had been asleep for quite some time.
He raised his eyes and looked around.
Old Lenser and Jenny were no longer there.
On the old dining table, there were still several untouched dishes, completely cold. The empty plates and the other two people's plates and utensils were gone. Ruger casually glanced to the side and saw that the plates had been washed and placed on a shelf.
Ruger couldn't help but laugh out loud.
It was as if they would come back here.
It's not just them, or rather old Lunther himself; once he leaves this place, he may never come back, never eat at this old table again.
Ruger hummed a song as he slowly walked through the store, then, after a moment's thought, went downstairs.
He walked up the stairs and casually took out the long crystal strip to test his mental strength. He still felt his mental energy space was bulging. Then he hummed more cheerfully. Nine small holes lit up on the stone strip. It was Aunt Jenny's strange recipe. The mysterious Aunt Jenny should be able to increase his mental strength more, but that probably wouldn't be a good thing.
Then, he froze in shock.
On the first floor of the store, he was greeted by rows of empty shelves. He slowly turned his head, and the familiar old counter that only allowed customers to enter but not leave had also disappeared.
He didn't think that old Lenser would need such a thing after leaving with Jenny, or that he would have another chance to do small business and earn those magic stones. But the closed shop door and the clean and tidy shop were telling signs that no daring thief who had braved the storm of blood had ever visited this place.
Ruger turned and walked uphill, looking at each cultivation room and breeding facility in turn.
As expected, all the rooms were empty.
If the reason for taking these things was to worry about who would take care of them after Luger left, since old Lunther didn't know he had an Abyss Bedroom space, the empty shelves below that held finished potions negated that idea.
Ruger laughed. Perhaps the answer was simple, but he hadn't thought of it from his perspective at the time.
Old Lenser was afraid that he would stay and run the shop, even though the possibility was slim.
He hummed a tuneless song and, accompanied by the seemingly endless sound of the rain, wandered to every place he could go. Finally, he arrived at a place he couldn't usually enter or leave at will, and stood in front of old Lunser's door at the far end of the third floor.
Ruger tried to reach out and give it a gentle push.
The metal door, which was usually tightly closed, slowly opened.
In the empty room, only a broken small table remained in the center. It was the small cabinet that old Lunser had originally placed by his bedside, but the bottom drawer was broken.
Ruger stepped closer, humming softly as he looked at the table.
There were only two slightly aged scrolls on it, and nothing else.
