Kobold Wizard's Journal
Chapter 303 One and Two
Chapter 303 One and Two
Two acts of pity.
Ruger hadn't expected it to turn out this way. There were so-called teachers, relatives, managers, admirers, and so on, and there might be more. For old Lenser, Jenny had been a very complex figure over the long years, and the old dog even used the term "owner" to refer to her.
The so-called two acts of mercy have two meanings. One is to let old Lenser struggle and try to grasp that opportunity that is not easy to succeed at. If he fails, Jenny thinks he can go back to what he should do in peace, after all, he was born for this purpose. The second act of mercy is represented by Luger, the little dog head, a person who should not exist in the first place, a creation born out of thin air due to an experiment. How could he have any descendants or relatives? The so-called cultivation of descendants in the contract is just agreeing to let old Lenser try to leave his own offspring in the world.
However, it seems that Old Dog Head did not do that, or did not succeed. In fact, many wizards find it difficult to have offspring after they become powerful, especially bloodline wizards. Some are already inhuman when they are weak. Old Lunser's situation is an extremely special case among bloodline wizards.
So, there was no such thing as a nephew. In Jenny's eyes, this strangely-looking nephew was nothing more than a child that old Lenser had somehow concocted.
No wonder Jenny reacted that way.
Ruger thought back for a moment and remembered his first meeting with Jenny. At that time, he wondered if this Aunt Jenny, who was so powerful, would see through his lack of blood relation with old Lunser.
Old Lenser was saying that Jenny would believe what his big mouth said because he couldn't lie to Jenny originally.
Ruger blinked; he no longer thought so.
After learning more about the inside story, he even thought that Jenny had figured out that he and Old Dog were not related by blood, and she would secretly smile knowingly. However, she did not expose any conspiracy, but thought that this was Old Dog's plan for his descendants. It was a little trick to deliberately prevent his descendants from fully inheriting his bloodline, so that he, his nephew, would not become another substitute.
Ruger glanced at old Lenser and suddenly had a bad feeling.
Is pity really pity?
Perhaps, but is it really giving him a chance to break free from his fate?
Perhaps true compassion lies in giving him a chance to give up.
Perhaps Aunt Jenny already knew the answer, knew the outcome of this gamble, and that the decades that had taken were nothing to someone like Jenny. Perhaps the only surprise this journey brought her was that she hadn't expected old Lenser to have a descendant sitting here.
Ruger scratched his furry head.
When his hair is nourished to a certain stage, even he can't help but touch it a couple of times.
When Aiskin and Big Fool Heng left the Abyss Bedroom space last time, they asked him to cast two Spirit Hair Nourishment spells on them.
Wow!
The uncle and nephew both stopped what they were doing and looked up to listen.
The sound of chains rattling could be heard from the vast, high dome.
Wow! Wow!
Every strike was awe-inspiring.
Old Lunser curled his lip and withdrew his gaze, which was useless to look around. Having lived in the City of Burning Blood for a long time, he was no longer surprised by such things. The only thing that slightly startled people like them was the sound of the chains. The strange sound of the chains was like a signal, and whenever it sounded, they had to be prepared.
"You haven't been feeling well these past few days..."
Ruger also withdrew his gaze, which had been unconsciously raised.
Old Lenser nodded.
If the blood rain continues, it is equivalent to the power of the Blood Sun being in a weakened state for a long time. The blood rain aura permeating the air will also have an effect. People who happen to be in a period of discomfort should prepare early when they hear the sound of chains.
Ruger thought that Old Doghead would probably spend even more time each day locking himself in his room.
The chains rattled continuously.
The uncle and nephew, who had initially paid little attention, gradually began to frown.
The chain lasted for an unexpectedly long time this time.
Ruger unconsciously slowed his breathing.
The sound of chains became a solo performance hanging over everyone's heads.
He believed that throughout the City of Burning Blood, there must be countless people like him, subconsciously slowing their breathing, lightening their steps, and listening quietly; perhaps some were even more pathetic than he was.
I don't know how much time passed. Finally, the drizzling rain began to fall.
It was still as strange as ever, and its color was still as blood-red as ever.
Wow! Wow!
But the sound of chains still echoed intermittently amidst the continuous rain of blood, contrasting with the multiple layers of rain sounds.
The sky, which hadn't been bright for long in the morning, gradually darkened as the rain dripped down.
As everyone's hearts grew heavy with the gloomy sky, the annoying clanging of chains finally stopped.
"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and refine the purification potion!"
Old Lenser leaped up from his chair and waved his hand, taking out a large amount of materials.
Ruger rolled his eyes and began collecting the materials that Old Lunser kept taking out. Most of them were already processed and neatly stored potion materials.
Although old Lenser wasn't in good shape, he couldn't stop his big dog mouth from wanting to grin, and he laughed as he took out the materials.
Luger raised an eyebrow as he looked at the ever-increasing amount of potion ingredients, already anticipating the enormous number that would be produced once the potion was finished.
"Sigh..." Old Lunser suddenly sighed, "Although you don't know enough, your success rate is extremely high. My lovely nephew, you are a really good source of labor. I'm really a little reluctant to let you go..."
Upon hearing this, Luger rolled his eyes at him and raised his hand to collect the last batch of potion materials.
The sound of blood raining down became the main melody that followed, enveloping the entire wasteland with the massive, blood-burning city at its center.
Time passes day by day.
When the chains first started rattling, Ruger had a hunch that this would be a long and bloody affair.
On days when blood rains down relentlessly, the nights in the City of Burning Blood are particularly unbearable, as the power of the Blood Sun is at its lowest point, so dim that even "dull and without light" is insufficient to describe it.
Ruger finished a round of deep meditation, opened his eyes, and let out a long breath.
The first thing you see is a slightly messy refining table, and some finished purification potions that haven't been put away.
Although the blood rain was nothing special to him, it still made him feel somewhat uncomfortable. He naturally didn't have the usual bloodline problems, which were biological instincts, and he resisted the blood rain.
He blinked, glanced around the small refining room, and took out a long crystal for testing mental strength.
These days, he has basically stayed in his small alchemy room, meditating and making potions. His mental energy is constantly switching back and forth between growth and daily application, which has given him a sense of enjoyment.
Holding the stone slab in my hand, the small round holes lit up one by one until the eighth hole was completely filled and lit up.
Ruger's lips curled up, and he hummed softly.
He spun around in place and returned to the refining table. He was going to hum a song as he refined ten bottles of purification potion to celebrate the stage of growth in his spiritual power.
Boom! A loud explosion!
It looked like someone's roof had been knocked down.
"Is this the eighth day or the ninth day?" he muttered to himself.
The strange noise faded into the distance, but did not approach Old Lunser's Pharmacy.
As the number of days of blood rain increased, Old Lunser spent less and less time leaving his room each day. For several days now, Luger has been eating breakfast by himself, and he can only see the smiling Old Lunser at dinner time and have a brief chat with him. Yesterday, Old Dog Head didn't even show up at dinner time.
