Chapter 149 Leisure and Meditation
Chapter 149 Leisure and Meditation
The three-story building and courtyard, constructed from stones of varying sizes, have a strangely crooked and haphazard charm, yet the ancient atmosphere permeating the courtyard speaks of its sturdiness and its unpretentious nature. The house nestled in a corner of the backyard is no exception.
Ruger looked at the house where he would be staying for the next few days.
He was considering whether to reserve a good spot in advance, since he was likely to be the one staying there for the longest time, while Old Lenser and Green would inevitably have to go out on errands and run around.
The young man in black who was leading the way pushed open the door. Although no one lived in the house, it was still kept very clean.
Ruger looked around the house. It looked simple from the outside, but it was quite nicely decorated inside, and the bedroom was divided into two rooms.
Since there were only two bedrooms, there was not much to choose from. They could only stay in the same room they had stayed in on the way when they rested in the safe house: he and his uncle would stay in the larger room, and Mr. Green would stay in the other.
"You two can rest here without worry. Mr. Lunser and the teacher should be here soon after they finish their business." The young man in black who led the way said with a smile before turning and leaving.
Ruger and Green didn't even have a chance to politely thank them.
This person is strange, Ruger thought.
He didn't feel much disgust from the other person, but the person didn't seem to welcome them much either.
“Lord Green, please rest here for now. I still need to take care of my uncle’s pack animals.” Ruger said, shaking the two breeding bags in his hand.
“No need to be so polite. We’re travel companions. Just call me Green,” Green said gently.
“Respect those who seek the law, or old Lunther will scold me.”
Ruger smiled, shrugged, and walked out of the house.
He looked up and surveyed the courtyard before him. He had originally intended to ask the man in black who had led the way for some advice, but the man was walking too fast and didn't seem to want to talk to them.
He found a place on the other side of the yard that looked like a beast pen, measured its size, and then casually let out two six-legged pack animals and tied them up inside.
When he returned to the house, Green had already chosen to rest in the smaller bedroom.
Old Lunsser has not returned yet.
Ruger then returned to his large bedroom and began to meditate.
Although he has been busy these days, he has not given up meditation. However, sometimes he cannot engage in deep meditation to exhaustion. He can only break it down. For example, in the current environment, he first needs to engage in a deep meditation to train his mental strength and master the runes, and then engage in a relaxation meditation to restore his mental strength, so that he can always keep himself in a good state.
The rapid, large-scale refining of the same potion was, in his experience, a rather effective way to train his mental strength. While stimulating growth was secondary, the primary focus was on developing his perception and control over his mental power, which would be more helpful in constructing runes. What he currently lacked was mastering the meditation rune, since his mental strength had already reached the standard of a fourth-level wizard apprentice.
Meditation went on and on, and before I knew it, it was late at night.
Ruger opened his eyes, glanced at the empty room, and entered deep meditation again.
He had thought about the ascension ritual required to become a full-fledged wizard, and wondered if the ascension ritual would be mentioned in the later parts of the Black Book.
He also thought that the legendary ancient wizards could successfully complete their ascension without the aid of an ascension ritual. As the first genius kobold wizard in history, he wondered if he could try to challenge that.
In fact, during these days, he also tried to find topics to talk about the sublimation ceremony in conversations with various people. He even chatted with a customer who visited Old Lunser's Pharmacy when he helped watch the store for a while.
From that customer, he also learned the name of an interesting ritual: the Pure Human Ascension Ritual. It was an intriguing ascension ritual, usable only by the purest human wizards. It was said to have been created by a powerful but fanatical wizard who deeply disliked bloodline wizards; people like Ruge and his ilk, who frequented the City of Burning Blood, were simply incapable of using it. It was said that a successful ascension could transform one into a higher, purer form of humanity. Few chose this path, and those who succeeded described it as a wondrous experience.
He also learned that the Grief Puppet Ascension Ritual was not a good path. Taking that step and becoming a puppet meant losing many options and facing more restrictions than bloodline wizards. Of course, for most people, success would be a stroke of luck.
Ruger spent the entire night in meditation. He was completely absorbed in mastering the meditation runes.
Old Lenser seemed to be having a pleasant conversation with his friend, and it wasn't until the blood-red sun was high in the sky that he reappeared before Ruger.
“My dear nephew, you can stay here and meditate. Those infected bloodlines have been clashing with the vampires lately. Perhaps we can do another deal there on our way back, so I need to collect more goods,” Old Renser said.
Ruger felt that old Lenser seemed to be saying something dangerous again.
He longed to return to the City of Burning Blood to begin learning his second recipe and the promised knowledge of the apothecary field.
He also thought about using his own potion to transform Aiskin and Da Shaheng into fighters, dragonborn kobold fighters, which sounded pretty good. He even planned to find a way to help them reach the pinnacle of fighters, the level of a first-circle wizard.
Luger would occasionally take a break and relax by pausing and letting his mind wander, which he was good at—basically, spacing out and daydreaming.
While I was still in a daze, Green extended an invitation.
“Lord Ruger, would you like to go for a walk together?” Green said.
After thinking it over, Ruger decided it was best to avoid causing trouble for his cheap uncle and politely declined.
Continue to immerse yourself in meditation practice.
Ruger felt as if he had truly stopped, and for a moment he was the only one left in the small house, where he could immerse himself in meditation.
The fourth demonic mark requires forty-eight runes, twenty-four of which were already mastered in previous stages. He has mastered most of the other twenty-four new runes, and his progress since arriving in the Upper Realm has been much faster than expected.
He let out a long breath, ending another phase of meditation, and strolled into the yard for some fresh air.
Old Rensel also happened to return at this time.
Judging from the current state of the blood-red sun, it must be evening.
"My hardworking uncle, it seems your harvest wasn't very good today?" Ruger joked.
Old Lenser no longer showed the excitement and anticipation he had when he left that morning.
“Hmph, there are still a lot of guys who are willing to risk their lives for money. Even if they are enemies, they still trade things in secret…” Old Lunser said. “Precisely because they are enemies, the prices are even better.”
Ruger rolled his eyes upon hearing this. Strictly speaking, their business dealings with Blood Fortress were in a similar situation.
Green, the seeker of the law who had been wandering around all day, returned to the courtyard through the back door at that moment.
Looking at them, Ruger couldn't help but think that perhaps when his mental strength reached its limit, he would also enter this state, exploring everywhere or earning resources in order to help himself break through from another level.
The three of them enjoyed dinner together and then went to rest.
Old Lunser, not wanting to disturb Ruger's meditation, shamelessly went to the old man in black's shop and asked for a room in the main building.
Luger, who was engrossed in meditation all day long, felt as if everything had calmed down.
Surprisingly, he began a period of leisurely life in a vampire territory surrounded by malice.
