Chapter 129 Music and Wine
The rolling wheels gradually slowed down, and Luger and the old drunkard, sitting in the carriage, exchanged a glance, knowing that the beast-drawn carriage was about to stop.
"What does the Upper Realm look like in your eyes?" Ruger asked casually.
The old wizard apprentice gave Ruger a strange look.
“There are more extraordinary beings, the area is more vast, the resources are more abundant, and some strange subterranean beasts are more difficult to deal with. It is so vast that no one knows its full extent, not even formal wizards. The top of the extraordinary beings is the wizard, so some people also call it the Wizard Domain,” the old drunkard said, while observing his expression. “I am more curious whether you are from the Upper Domain.”
"Whether it is or isn't, it's all the same. If I say it's not, no one will believe me; if I say it is, no one will doubt me. So it's no longer important," Ruger said.
His words piqued the old wizard's apprentice's curiosity even more, and he kept looking him up and down.
The beast-drawn carriage also slowly came to a stop at this moment.
This was clearly not a typical area within the castle; a solitary stone house stood in a circular depression, where Lorigo Star was waiting.
After dropping them off, the beast-drawn carriage left without stopping, carrying the red-haired woman away slowly.
Lorigo was the first to come forward.
“Lord Ruger, we meet again.” Lorigo came up and gave Ruger a hug.
He still looked haggard, but the sparkle in his eyes was brighter than it had been two days ago.
This guy probably doesn't know that his sister is about to destroy his beloved Star City. Compared to the dead old baron and Lorig's brothers and sisters, he, the survivor, is probably the one who suffers more pain, and this twisted force from fate is still increasing.
Ruger was at a loss for words and could only respond to Lorigo's enthusiasm with a faint smile.
"And who is this gentleman?" Lorigo asked politely after introducing himself.
The old wizard apprentice waved his hand impatiently.
"It was your sister who invited me here," the old drunkard said.
Lorig smiled, noticing that the old man seemed to be in a bad mood, and didn't ask any further questions.
"You two, please follow me."
Lorigo began to lead the way.
Inside the square stone house, there was a spiral staircase leading downwards.
The three of them walked on the wide stone steps, and exquisite crystal lamps lit up on both sides as they moved.
Lorigo would occasionally chat with Ruger.
"Is this the family secret place you mentioned before?" Ruger asked.
“Yes, I am just as unfamiliar with this place as you are. Normally, I have only been here once when I was a child, for a simple lesson. I am not qualified to come here normally…” Lorigo’s voice echoed in the corridor.
“Miss Dasoya, down there?” Ruger asked.
“She said she had some things to ask you. After dealing with family matters that day, she stayed here. She also said that the fluctuations in the light stone might have affected the stability of the teleportation array inside the castle. I don’t understand those things either,” Lorigo said.
Ruger glanced at the old drunkard, and both of them understood what he meant. They no longer harbored any illusions about their previous guesses. Perhaps the truth was just like that, or even more insane.
“Watch your step, both of you. It’s just ahead. Speaking of this place, apart from the family heirs, only wizards have come here in the past few hundred years. You two are wizards, so today is not an exception.”
As Lorigo spoke, he led the two through a magnificent white metal door to a spacious area resembling a small plaza. Runes faintly appeared on the surrounding walls, and in the center of the plaza stood a rather eye-catching, oddly shaped building.
Dasoya Star is there.
A tall harp stood on the ground. Her fingers moved swiftly and slowly, her eyes slightly closed, as if immersed in some emotion. The melodious tinkling sound echoed in the empty space as her fingers glided across the strings; it seemed to be a sorrowful tune. The piece ended.
She put away her harp, looked up at the two people who had arrived, and smiled: "Welcome, both of you. You were very wise not to flee in a panic. That might have led to an even more terrible outcome that I would not have wanted to see..."
"At the same time, I was also surprised to find that there were two wizard apprentices in the city who had inexplicably stayed here." She slowly paced around.
Judging from the meaning of her words, she has completely excluded low-level wild wizard apprentices from the scope of wizard apprentices.
"To prevent you from overthinking and doing anything irrational..."
As she spoke, she flicked her right hand, and two black papers floated over.
“Sign the contract and I can let you go. Just don’t do anything irrational and cause trouble for everyone,” Dasoya Fanxing said.
Lorigo, who hadn't left yet, was already dumbfounded.
Ruger glanced at Lorigo, then looked at the old drunkard beside him.
The senior employee didn't make a move; he would never sign something carelessly, not only because he was afraid of traps in the contract, but also because it was a matter of choice.
“Are you really going to destroy this underground city? Isn’t there a gentler way?” Ruger said.
Luger's words sent a jolt through Lorigo.
“My time is running out,” she said, glancing at the old drunkard. “I have no time, and I have no other choice. I have nothing, no family, no friends, only a wizard. I did not do these things out of fear of death. I have never been afraid of death. I just had to become a wizard.”
Ruger glanced at the old wizard apprentice as well, and seeing that he hadn't touched the contract yet, he didn't make a move either.
“The contract is fine,” the old drunkard said in a deep voice, “but if we sign this, and her scheme is exposed, we will all be considered accomplices and will suffer the same terrible fate.”
And there is another issue to consider, or rather, a great many issues.
The old drunkard's words were not deliberately kept from her, or rather, they clearly reached the ears of the four people present.
“Destroying this underground region won’t guarantee your success. Your failure will make things easier to expose. Signing this will still lead to our miserable end.” Ruger’s attitude was very clear.
"Lord Luger, what are you talking about?" Lorig finally couldn't hold back any longer.
Unfortunately, only Luger glanced at him; no one present was affected by his will.
Suddenly, the oddly shaped building emitted a light.
The old wizard's apprentice's face turned solemn upon seeing this.
“She has already begun her ascension ritual,” the old drunkard said in a deep voice. “The one standing in front of you is not her true form.”
Dasoya Stars smiled gently: "You will be the witnesses to my advancement. I will definitely succeed. However, you are wrong about one thing. The one standing in front of you is still the real me, but I will be discarded later. Now you have one last time to make a decision. Don't think about running away. You can't leave this city."
Ruger took a deep breath, quietly slipped the devil dice into his hand, and looked at the old drunkard beside him.
But then the old wizard's apprentice looked at the emanating light and laughed.
After laughing, the old drunkard solemnly took out a large, golden wine glass.
“Little girl, there’s no such thing as guaranteed success. No one can be guaranteed to succeed. But I do have a suggestion that can make things easier for you. You don’t need this contract, but it will be more reliable,” the old drunkard said with a smile. “Only a serious cooperative relationship is the most reliable. As long as you let me use the power of the light stone and have a drink with you, I will be your most reliable ally.”
“I know this underground city inside and out. Just give me a little bit to make some wine, and I can help you eliminate all other hidden dangers…” the old drunkard added.
Ruger glanced at the old drunkard, then at the large, golden goblet. The goblet wasn't just golden; it was truly gleaming.
