Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 126 Certainty and Possibility

Chapter 126 Certainty and Possibility
On the bustling street, passersby couldn't help but glance at Luger's appearance.

Ruger glanced at the people around him, stopped laughing, and started walking back to the tavern he had been in.

Ruger thought to himself, "I really am still an ignorant little dog-headed man."

Of course, this situation itself is quite unusual, he reassured himself. As for the power of the Dragon Management Council, he had never doubted it; it was undoubtedly one of the top organizations in the wizarding world. At the same time, from another perspective, the potential danger posed by the dragons must also be significant, otherwise such an organization wouldn't exist.

Ruger walked for a while, put on a veil, and went to the tavern to briefly tell the anxious redhead what had happened, and also took back the flustered and bewildered Daisy.

The two walked on.

"this is for you."

Ruger handed a small bag to Daisy.

Inside is the metal plaque of that house, which proves ownership of the property, and some Sun Coins.

The house may need some renovations now, but he figured he didn't need to worry about it. He was sure that the beautiful red-haired Ms. Myrtle would take good care of it.

“My lord, you…” Daisy’s voice trembled.

“I will eventually leave. I have found my path forward. I haven’t figured out exactly how to walk this path yet, but I am determined to go,” he said with a smile. “There’s no need to be sad or afraid. I won’t be leaving for the next few days. If I have the chance in the future, I will come back to see you all.”

If the Sun's Extinction in Star City lasts for several more decades, Daisy might be able to live out her life. He believed that after he was gone, Red-haired Mortel and Lorig would take care of Daisy in her life, which was why he told her not to be afraid. Of course, if he could become a formal wizard, then the house he lived in might be protected by Lorig's descendants, and they might even send people to clean it every day.

“My lord, may I…may I follow you?” Daisy asked tentatively.

The two walked leisurely down the street.

Ruger shook his head. He wasn't yet capable of taking care of others, nor could he afford to enjoy such a luxurious life with a personal cook by his side.

Moreover, he had heard that although there were ordinary people in the Upper Realm, and even some direct descendants of wizards, not all of them possessed talent, these people did not live with the wizards. Powerful wizards seemed to emanate an invisible influence on their surroundings at all times, which was harmful to ordinary people; those with weak constitutions would fall ill or even have their lives threatened if they came into frequent contact with them.

They walked through street after street, all the way back to their neighborhood.

As they approached their house, little Lucien ran over, carrying a small piece of wood. It seemed the neighbors were helping them repair the house.

“Mr. Fang! Look, your teacup and plate, we used them when we had cake last time,” the little guy tilted his head back and opened his pocketed shirt. “I put them away for you. Those guys are fixing the wall, with saws and hammers, they could easily break them…”

Ruger patted the little guy's head.

But the little guy didn't seem to like it very much.

Daisy, standing to the side, looked at the house with a pained expression. The once tidy floor was now a mess, but thankfully, the ugly tree that Ruger liked was still stubbornly alive.

After a few simple repairs, there will be no problem moving in tonight.

Ruger had Daisy prepare a sumptuous dinner as a way of thanking the neighbors. Two kobolds also sneaked out to help in the kitchen, but they didn't like having so many people around. After finishing, they took a few of their favorite dishes back to the Abyss bedroom space.

After a hearty meal and drinks, everyone laughed and joked around before dispersing.

Even late at night, Daisy was still diligently cleaning the house.

Ruger leaned back in his recliner, slowly sipping his fruit tea, gazing at the starry sky, his thoughts drifting away. Earlier on the way, a very serious question had suddenly occurred to him, a question he had forgotten amidst the sun and delicious food: he should have returned to that little courtyard in the Abyss Cave District before leaving.

He didn't know how long Miss Dassoy would stay here. He felt she wouldn't stay long, but he figured she should be able to make a trip for him.

He closed his eyes and unconsciously recalled the events of the day, the things that had happened in the past few days.

It seems he really lacks experience; he always felt that this Dasoya Fanxing handled these matters too smoothly.

And there was that familiar feeling; he raised his eyelids and glanced at the quiet room next door.

It just feels a little similar, but of course it doesn't prove anything.

But as he pondered that possibility more deeply, fear began to creep into his heart without him even realizing it.

The concept of "possibility" naturally implies more than one possibility; there are heartwarming possibilities as well as terrifying ones.

He was lost in thought.

Let's assume that she really is his neighbor. Then she might have already sensed something amiss during one of her communications with Lorig. In order to help her brother, she returned to Star City long ago, instead of asking for help. You should know that under normal circumstances, when wizards and wizard apprentices from the Upper Realm use teleportation arrays, the Star Family has no right to question their identities, so when they return is not a problem.

If she were to return very early, it would be as if she had witnessed these events unfold, watched them develop step by step, and seen her clansmen nearly wiped out. Then she would reappear, present the materials and solutions she had secretly investigated and prepared, and after a final confirmation on the spot, easily resolve the problem.

So why did she move next to him?
Because you're curious about him? Because of his appearance?

As he reflected on the events of the day, one possibility came to mind: perhaps they moved next to him to confirm whether he was a wild wizard.

If that's the case, combined with her probing during the day, it means she cares a lot about whether he's a wild wizard.

Why would they do this? Are they afraid he'll report them as secret? Are they afraid the news will leak?
According to Lorigo, her bystander attitude followed by her intervention to resolve the family crisis was entirely within the bounds of the law and did not trigger any of the regulations prohibiting interference in the lower-level cave cities. Of course, Lorigo was unaware that she was merely observing; he only knew of her act of rescue.

She hates this family.
It shouldn't be that bad. This judgment isn't based on her mother or her childhood experiences, but rather on the fact that Ruger sensed a similar spirit, drive, and persistence in this neighbor, a spirit akin to Bayonte's. It was Ruger's respect for her and her extraordinary path. She wouldn't do such things out of simple hatred.

So, going back to the previous question, let's assume she really was afraid of the news leaking out.

And yet they are so cautious.

"Then it must be something even more egregious, something that would be severely punished," Ruger thought.

Something that has clearly crossed the line.

Ruger racked his brains to think in the most sensational and outrageous direction.

Perhaps she returned even earlier, or even a few years ago. If it was during that time period, she was the one who gave the Redeemers near Star City something. With a little guidance, the illness left by Laslot Star in his early years was not a secret among the nobles in the city, so the Redeemers nearby would also know. Such a perfect target appeared before them.

Even so, she was the one who orchestrated all the changes; she was not a bystander at all, but rather the mastermind behind the massacre of an entire family.

So what was her motivation?

Ruger still didn't believe that she would go to such lengths, wasting time on a troublesome revenge.
