Chapter 125 Delusion and Futile Effort
"Dasoya!"
Suddenly, Lorigo spoke up.
"What's wrong, my sentimental brother? Is there something you want to say? You're not going to plead for him, are you?" Dasoya Fanxing said.
Lorig shook his head upon hearing this.
“I just want to know the reason behind these things. I’ve never heard of those guys who worship the Faceless Ones doing anything like this before, and what their accomplices might be. The ideas of the Redeemers have spread from other underground regions and have only dared to eke out a living in the Abyss…” Lorig said.
"Of course, they can only eke out a living in the shadows. Even their evil gods might just be little things that escaped from some wizard's laboratory, or some audacious guy releasing an evil god to conduct some kind of experiment," she said in a deep voice. "As for this matter, I have already investigated it. It was just that those redeemers were exploring something new, and he was a suitable target. He also happened to be on the verge of death and couldn't resist the temptation."
Lorigo wanted to say something more.
Laslot Star, however, burst into loud laughter from afar.
He was laughing when he suddenly raised his arm and forced his hand into his mouth.
“No one… can decide my life or death…” he said incoherently.
Suddenly, he plunged his arm downwards, and a painful cry accompanied the flow of blood.
The mouths on his forearm writhed and struggled, devouring him bit by bit from the inside out as the arm fell. The crunching sounds were incessant as they gnawed, chewed, and swallowed. Moments later, the body lost its life, swayed twice, and collapsed in an unsightly position, leaving only the mangled body, some scattered pieces of flesh, and the intact arm. Even as the corpse fell, the numerous mouths on the arm did not stop tearing and gnawing at the nearby flesh.
Dasoya just watched as the strange arm and dozens of mouths slowly and laboriously moved over and devoured the remaining remains of Laslott's body.
Until the last toe was eaten, there was nothing nearby for it to bite, and it even began to try to gnaw on the stone-carved steps.
Dasoya then slowly walked over, took out an exquisite box, put the arm inside, and sealed it.
Lorigo also walked towards that direction.
He took two steps, then stopped, turned around, and said apologetically, "Lord Ruger, with Dasoya here, there will be no more problems. She will help clear my name. I still have some things to confirm urgently. Once this is over and I have dealt with the family matters, I will definitely hold a banquet to express my respect to you in the highest manner."
Ruger nodded in understanding.
This seemed to be the end of the matter, but there were actually more difficult problems to deal with. For example, he needed to confirm whether what Lorigo's brother said about Star City being about to lose its sun was true. These things were weighing heavily on Lorigo's mind. He also needed to bring back the knights in his family who had been misled. With Dasoya around, these things were relatively easy.
Ruger watched as the brother and sister walked together in the distance.
Then he looked at the bloodstains on the ground.
Is this a good result? Ruger wondered.
He can now leave this place and head to the place he has longed for, to try and pursue his own path as a wizard.
Perhaps he could take advantage of Dasoya Star's approach and leave with her after some time. He didn't think she would stay and become a city lord as Lorigo had suggested.
With that thought in mind, Ruger decided to go back first; sometimes even kobolds had to be a little shameless.
Suddenly, just as he was about to leave the square, Dasoya, whose true face he had never seen before, looked over. Her sharp gaze startled Luger.
He noticed that Dasoya was holding a talisman stone in her hand, which she had found from somewhere. It was the sun stone that the nobles of the underground city had mentioned, capable of unleashing divine punishment.
Young Master Lorig noticed that Dasoya turned her head and followed her sister's gaze to Luger, who was about to leave. She smiled and waved to Luger. Luger looked at the stone in her hand and felt a strange sense of dread.
Young Master Lorigo's sunny smile calmed him down a bit.
Various possibilities flashed through his mind as he tried to expand his thoughts, but in the end, he still felt that Dasoya's gaze was somewhat inexplicable.
Just as he was hesitating whether to continue walking.
Dasoya Fanxing stepped forward and said, "Who exactly are you? You have an identity recognized by the Upper Realm, so why did you deceive Brother Lorigo and pretend to be a wild wizard to get you unlimited ferry tickets? Please don't try to make excuses. The fact that this rune stone can't lock onto you is enough to explain everything."
Ruger was completely confused, but he understood the last sentence clearly.
"You're going to kill me with the runestone?" he said.
Luger's words startled Lorigo, who only then realized what was happening.
“I didn’t activate it. I just thought you were acting strangely and used the seal stone to test you. These seal stones are quite precious. I probably wouldn’t need them to deal with you,” she said slowly.
After speaking, Dasoya ignored Luger, who was standing there in a daze, and turned back to continue discussing family matters with Lorig, seemingly not intending to delve deeper into Luger's identity.
Lorig even took the time to turn back and offer an apologetic smile, seemingly unconcerned about Ruger's deception.
Unable to offer any explanation, Luger walked thoughtfully out of the square.
He kept thinking about it the whole way.
If it's true, then being mistaken for a scammer is inevitable.
Having an identity recognized by the upper realm means you don't need any travel tickets at all; all you need is enough magic stones to activate the teleportation array.
He was just a little dog-headed man before, and now he's a slightly bigger little dog-headed man. Of course, he knows his own limitations and knows that he has never joined any wizarding faction or been to the wizarding realm. But for Miss Dasoya of the Starry Family to say such a thing, it must not be a joke without reason.
As he walked, he was lost in thought, trying to filter out the things around him by eliminating possibilities. He even thought of the labyrinthine city related to the world of knowledge, but that was obviously not right. He also thought of the vanished, all-powerful, and unfathomable half-human, who later became Karyu.
However, no matter who or what organization it is, even someone as mysterious as Karyu, if they want to change someone's identity in the wizarding realm, they must at least have that person's arcane mark. All contracts and wizarding organizations are based on arcane marks.
He had unknowingly arrived on the bustling street.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Having an identity recognized by the Upper Realm does not necessarily mean joining a wizarding faction; it could also mean having had formal dealings with a legitimate and powerful force.
He raised his hand and looked at his own scales.
The Alien Dragon Management Committee.
Thinking of this, he couldn't help but laugh as he stood on the street.
Passersby were startled by his sudden, strange grin and avoided him, while some bolder mercenaries kept glancing back at him as they walked away.
He recalled a passage he had seen on the dragon's back. If a report was triggered, the Alien Dragon Management Committee would receive the message and come to retrieve the dragon. At the same time, based on the secret mark left behind, a file would be created for the reporter within the Management Committee. In the future, if there is a legitimate need for experiments, the reporter can apply for materials and enjoy certain preferential treatment.
