Chapter 120: Life and Death

Chapter 120: Life and Death

At the dinner table, a weary redhead named Mortel shared her various speculations, including some things she knew about the Lorigo brothers.

As a confidante of Lorigo, she seemed to harbor a deep-seated prejudice against the third young master of the Starry Sky family, pointing the finger at Lorigo's brother with many of her suspicions. The two had developed a rift after their eldest brother's accidental injury. Lorigo had concealed a part of what he had told Ruger last time: the three of them had gone out to play together, and it was the mischievous youngest brother who had teased him, leading to his attack by the insect beast. His eldest brother had also been injured while trying to save him from being unable to dodge.

In the words of the red-haired woman, this third-in-line heir of the Starry Family possessed considerable knightly talent, but was rather obsessive and heavily reliant on his elder brother. While blaming himself, he also resented Lorigo's inability to train. In his eyes, if Lorigo could train as a knight, he could run away on his own, and their elder brother wouldn't need to rescue him. The more he blamed himself, the angrier he became, and the more resentful he grew towards Lorigo.

Motel even suspected that the assassination attempt that led to the last expedition was also inextricably linked to Lorigo's brother.

Daisy, who was listening nearby, turned pale and took the opportunity to sneak away to the kitchen to get busy.

The meal is finished.

Seeing that Ruger still had the leisure to comment on the meat rolls made by the two kobolds, Mortel couldn't help but become a little anxious.

Ruger took out an invitation and placed it on the table; it was Lorigo's wedding invitation.

“I don’t think you can find Lorigo by wandering around the city,” he said, pointing to the invitation. “Of course, there’s still some time before the wedding, so I can accompany you on a ride in a beast-drawn carriage around this underground city, from the outer city to the inner city, leaving no stone unturned.”

Upon hearing Ruger's words, the red-haired woman's anxious expression finally improved slightly, but her eyes remained filled with even more confusion.

After they finished speaking, the two packed their things and boarded the beast-drawn carriage.

Daisy, who had been busy in the kitchen for some time, prepared some pastries and thoughtfully prepared a portion for the servant who was driving the carriage.

Luger sat on the beast-drawn carriage, and although he spoke perfunctorily, he was still carefully sensing the possible arcane marks that might appear.

The sky had completely darkened, and the stars filled the dome.

He was pondering with his eyes closed. Lorigo was either already dead, or not as dangerous as the red-haired woman thought; perhaps he was simply imprisoned by the Baron due to disagreements over family matters or a marital arrangement. One hypothesis was extremely serious, the other very minor, because Ruger couldn't imagine a third, malicious scenario that hadn't actually harmed Lorigo. In other words, his rescue was very likely a free way to earn magic stones.

As their beast-drawn carriage wandered into the inner city's noble district, a deafening roar echoed throughout the entire underground city.

Luger opened his eyes a split second before the loud noise occurred and looked out of the beast-drawn carriage. He saw a white light, like lightning, strike down from the dome.

“That’s the direction of the Star Family Castle…” Myrtle’s face turned pale.

After the white light faded, my ears were ringing, and after they calmed down a bit, I could still hear shouts of battle coming from that direction.

Star City is in chaos.

Ruger wondered, "Are those rune stones that only the founding families possess? Each one can draw upon the power of the dome light stone to strike an enemy."

These kinds of things are usually held by the head of the family, and they are usually older people who have lived in the city for a long time and rarely go out. The Starry Family is no exception. That is to say, only the old baron has them. Perhaps Lorigo's elder brother, who has already taken charge of some affairs, also has them. After all, the old baron had a near-death experience a while ago, so it is normal for him to arrange some things.

Alternatively, there is a very small chance that other nobles in the city might take their own talisman stones and cause trouble for the Starry Sky Clan, but this seems unlikely, given the current external pressures on Twin Moon City. If that were to happen, Starry Sky City would only become more chaotic.

Soon, a large number of knights blocked the various intersections, persuading all the nobles attending the banquet and the beast-drawn carriages like Luger's to turn back, and forbidding anyone from approaching.

There was no need to persuade Luger to leave, nor would he join the fray. The two returned with the beast-drawn carriage to Luger's home in the outer city. Mortel, looking dejected, chose a room and closed the door.

The city was in a strange balance between noise and quiet. Everyone stayed at home, barely daring to breathe, but the sounds of battle could still be heard from time to time. It wasn't just the sound of spells exploding, but also the sound of people breaking through the blockade and being chased to the outer city. The sounds of clashing swords and roars could be heard every now and then, and the astonishing roar appeared twice more. It wasn't until the second half of the night, just before dawn, that it finally quieted down completely.

In the words of Cui Fanke next door, bloodshed erupted overnight.

The next day, after a grueling night, Myrtle couldn't wait to go out and find out what was going on, but as soon as she stepped outside, she heard the people around her talking and stood there in shock.

The news has spread throughout the city.

The newly appointed baron vehemently denounced the shameless assassin.

Last night, the shameless assassins from Red Moon City, mistaking the Marquis of Twin Moon City for someone infiltrated with the delegation, and also intending to disrupt the alliance between Twin Moon City and Star City, carried out a decapitation assassination attempt at last night's banquet. Faced with the surprise attack of a large number of extraordinary individuals, the Star City family had to resort to divine punishment several times, but still suffered heavy casualties. The entire Twin Moon City delegation perished under the assassins' blades, along with dozens of important members of the Star City family, including the Baron, who had just recovered, and several of his direct descendants.

Overnight, the Starry Star family's bloodline was reduced to only the eldest son, the new Baron Lasslot Starry Star, with the rest being the old Baron's illegitimate children from his early years.

At the same time, Star City announced that it would join Twin Moon City in declaring war on Red Moon City.

The people in the city were filled with righteous indignation.

Cui Fanke and his knight neighbor were both gathering their own mercenary groups, intending to respond to the city lord's call.

Ruger stood at his doorstep and looked at the ferry ticket in his hand.

The sudden change caught him somewhat off guard.

Now, can he go to the Starry Sky family's castle and leave this place using that legendary teleportation array?

He thought for a moment, then took out the star badge that Lorig had given him and put it on his chest. He decided to go and find out more, so he strode over to the red-haired woman who was deep in thought.

“Beautiful lady, would you like to come with me to see that castle?” he said.

Motel looked up at the badge on his chest, nodded, and boarded the beast-drawn carriage.

The two of them were silent all the way.

Luger's expression shifted slightly.

Suddenly, a figure darted out from the alley and jumped directly onto the two-person carriage. The servant driving the carriage was about to shout when Luger calmed him down.

Myrtle was also very excited.

She recognized the figure wearing a cloak that concealed his face all too well; it was none other than Lorigo Star, who had disappeared for several days.
