Cang's Ramblings
Chapter 1472 Review of Twilight Divide
Chapter 1472 Review of Twilight Divide
Hello everyone, I am Cang Yiwei.
Today I would like to recommend a new book by a great author to you.
"Twilight Divide", Heishan Laogui, a great writer.
Category: Science Fiction - Evolution and Mutation.
Summary:
He died peacefully, but was forcibly resurrected.
【Brief Comment】
He has nine books under his name, including "Starting from the Red Moon" and "The Sky-Snatching Chronicles". The most popular one is "Red Moon", which is weird and crazy enough. The two books he wrote afterwards were not very satisfactory, and some were even finished in a hurry.
The new book release hasn't made a big splash so far. Since the book was released on October 2nd, I've already updated 10 words, which shows how diligent I am.
The results, although it made it to the second place on the new book list, are not very ideal. I didn’t see any official splash screen recommendation, nor did I see any enthusiastic readers flooding the screen with white silver, which shows that everyone is still holding a wait-and-see attitude towards his new book.
Even the book club has only 260 posts, and its popularity is quite low, which is far from its peak work.
I believe the title also confuses many people. It wasn't until Chapter 28 that I learned from a supporting character that dusk marks the dividing line between yin and yang. Living and evil spirits each follow their own paths. The Laoyinshan forest is thick with yin energy, so whether it's day or night, it's always dusk.
So this is what the title of the book means, the story of humans and ghosts taking different paths.
The synopsis is also relatively simple, telling a story of a dead person coming back to life. Like most online novel protagonists, rebirth, time travel, and possession can all be understood as dead people coming back to life. Therefore, the basic style of the story is not fully reflected.
But once you open the main text and begin reading, it's immediately clear that Lao Gui's work is a combination of "The Dao of Weird Immortals," "The Shepherd's Diary," "The Lord of Mysteries," and "Starting from the Red Moon." Even the opening is very similar to a certain anime or Douyin, with the main theme being a strange and thrilling folk-style cultivation of immortality. However, we also see that this is a science fiction genre, and an evolutionary variant, so it also incorporates the slightly sci-fi elements of communication between reincarnated people, similar to "We Live in Nanjing." This makes the cultivation of immortality seem strange and a bit out of place, even making readers wonder if there's some kind of system that would disrupt the integrity of the style.
After reading the entire story, I had the following feelings. First, the writing style is eerie, the language a bit plain and full of clichés, and the text lacks aesthetic appeal. Second, there are quite a few driving jokes, and I wonder if it's influenced by "The Night Watchman of Dafeng," but there are more eerie and dirty jokes, but not many funny moments. Third, the word "ghost" seems to have lost its sensitivity, with many detailed descriptions, such as evil, filthy, and steep mountains, directly presented. The blood-feeding parts also have a bit of anime-like descriptions, which makes the whole world feel quite eerie. Fourth, there are not many innovative points, and it seems more like a piece of work that was stitched together, showing signs of rushing and lacking a certain amount of polish, which makes it look rather rough.
Overall, it gives people a feeling of being bizarre but not exciting enough, weird but not scary enough, bold but too restrained, not enough excitement, and not pleasant to watch. You want to look forward to it, but it is easily diluted by the sloppy words and the emotions cannot be aroused.
Therefore, there is a big question mark over the future performance of this book.
If you are interested, you can go and read it.
