Chapter 214, Part 5: Old Habits Are Hard to Change

As a tourist city, the night in Haojiang seems to arrive earlier than in Hong Kong Island.

The neon lights were already on by 6 p.m., illuminating the gambling city as if it were daytime.

Fly stood at the entrance of the Willie Casino, squinting as he surveyed the magnificent building, a smile unconsciously creeping onto his lips.

"Haojiang, I've finally arrived!"

"Fly Bro!"

A young man in a black suit quickly came forward and respectfully took the luggage from his hands: "Brother Hua is waiting for you in the VIP room."

Fly patted his underling on the shoulder and casually pulled out a hunchback bill from his pocket and stuffed it into his hand.

"Take this and have some tea!"

This is his consistent style—no matter how poor he is, he can't let his aura be poor.

"Thank you, thank you, Brother Fly!"

Even in Macau, it's rare to see a big spender who would tip five hundred dollars. The young man hurriedly bowed and scraped to Fly, his eyes filled with reverence as he looked at him.

The elevator went straight to the top floor, and as soon as the door opened, Fly saw Ahua standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.

After two months apart, Ahua's demeanor has become more composed.

His impeccably tailored dark blue suit, his meticulously combed slicked-back hair, and the understated Patek Philippe on his wrist all speak volumes about his current status in the Macau casino scene.

"Hua brother!"

Fly strode over and gave Ahua a bear hug: "I missed you so much! You have no idea how boring Mong Kok is without you!"

Ahua smiled and patted him on the back: "Was the journey smooth?"

"Smoothly my ass!"

Fly loosened his grip, took out a cigarette from his pocket, and lit it: "I almost threw up to death on the boat. What's Yao-ge thinking? He wanted to come to Haojiang with you before but wouldn't let me, and now he suddenly wants me to come and help you out?"

Ah Hua gestured for him to sit down, poured him a glass of whiskey, and pushed it towards him: "The gang is undergoing a transformation and needs reliable manpower."

Jimmy used to manage the junket business in Macau.

Now that Jimmy has gone to the mainland, the junket business at Willie Hall is booming, and I can't manage it all by myself!

Fly's eyes widened: "What?! So you're saying that you're the one who calls the shots in the junket business with Luen Shing in Macau?"

Ahua smiled and said, "What do you mean I'm in charge all by myself? The business all belongs to Brother Yao. You need to know what's important and what's not!"

"By the way, Fly, what Brother Yao means is to find you some legitimate work. Who knows, in a few years, there might not be much difference between being a patron of a movie theater and a security guard in Yau Tsim Mong!"

The fly scoffed: "Loan sharking? Isn't it just lending money and collecting debts? What's so difficult about that?"

Ahua shook his head and took out a thick ledger from the drawer: "Things are different now. Casino junkets in Macau are legitimate businesses. They have to share profits with the casinos, pay taxes, and deal with inspections from the regulatory authorities."

He opened the ledger and pointed to the densely packed numbers: "Each customer has a credit rating, the loan amount is determined based on their asset situation, and the interest rate must comply with the law."

Fly looked at those numbers and got a headache. He tilted his head back and drank his wine in one gulp: "Brother Hua, you know I'm not well-educated. I can't handle these number games."

"Then learn slowly!"

Ahua patiently instructed: "Anyway, have a good time in Macau tonight. Tomorrow I'll take you to meet some big clients so you can familiarize yourself with the process!"

That evening, Ahua arranged a welcome dinner for Wu Ying.

Unfortunately, Fly's alcohol tolerance was poor, and he got completely drunk before the second half of the game, eventually having to be carried back to the hotel by a group of younger men.

The fly woke up the next day at noon, rubbing its temples.

A note left by Ahua lay on the bedside table: "Be at Willie Hall at three o'clock, I'll take you to see Chairman Lin."

Fly glanced at his watch; it was already 2:40. He cursed, quickly took a shower, threw on a shirt, and ran outside.

In the VIP room of the Willy Hall, Ahua was having tea with a well-dressed middle-aged man.

When Ahua saw Fly rush in, disheveled, his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.

"Chairman Lin, this is my brother, Fly. He will be in charge of your schedule from now on."

Upon seeing the fly in place, Ahua stood up and began to introduce it with a smile.

"Fly, Mr. Lin from Kaohsiung, used to frequent the place across the street. He's been patronizing my business for the past two months, so please don't neglect our esteemed guest!"

Fly sat down casually and poured himself a cup of tea: "Chairman Lin, right? I heard you play the big game, coming to Macau once or twice a month?"

A hint of displeasure flashed across Chairman Lin's face, but he still nodded politely: "Just a little fun."

"Don't be modest!"

The fly patted Chairman Lin on the shoulder: "I'll play a couple of rounds with you tonight, I guarantee you'll win big!"

Ahua kicked a fly under the table, but kept smiling: "Chairman Lin is one of our most important clients, with a credit line of fifty million at Willy Hall."

"Fly, show the VIP contract we prepared to Chairman Lin."

Fly casually picked up the documents on the table, pushed them in front of Chairman Lin without even glancing at them, and said, "Just sign it, the interest is negotiable!"

Chairman Lin's face darkened completely: "Ahua, have you become this unprofessional in your work lately?"

Ahua quickly apologized: "Chairman Lin, please calm down. Fly is new here and not familiar with the procedures yet."

"Give me a break, brother, and take a look at the contract first. I guarantee that if you want your money to flow into North America, we're the best option!"

After saying that, he glared at Fly and said, "Go and call the CFO!"

The fly reluctantly got up, muttering as it left, "What are you pretending for? You think you can just flaunt your wealth?"

That evening, Ahua had no choice but to personally visit Chairman Lin to apologize, and even presented him with a luxury watch worth millions as a gift.

When I returned to Willie Hall, Fly was having a great time playing baccarat, with a pile of chips in front of him.

"Fly!"

Ahua pulled him out of the casino, his face already showing some displeasure.

"Do you know how difficult it was for me to win over Chairman Lin? You almost ruined this connection today!"

Fly nonchalantly shook off Ahua's hand: "Brother Hua, will Macau ever lack gamblers? He likes to gamble, so I gamble with him. I don't even know what I said wrong. Why is he giving me attitude? Are you going to take the side of an outsider?!"

Ahua took a deep breath, suppressing his anger.

“Fly, if you're going to be a proper gambler, I need to take you to see him specifically.”

That's ridiculous! They're in Macau to transfer assets! They lost ten million at our casino, and we want five million back to be transferred to their North American account!
This is a pilot program I'm running within the industry; don't ruin this whole thing!

Fly was stunned for a moment, but he roughly understood what Ahua meant.

But he still stubbornly insisted, "In my life, I, Fly, have only ever admired two people: Brother Hua and Brother Yao!"
Asking me to be a meek and obedient junket operator who tries to please people? Sorry, I'm just naturally thick-skinned!

"You're falling!"

Ah Hua couldn't help but scold, "Wo Luen Shing is transforming now, and all the branches are trying to do legitimate business."

But in Macau, even legitimate businesses operate differently. Brother Yao sent you here to help, not to gamble!

"I told you long ago I'm not cut out for business!"

The fly raised its voice: "I'll let you chop people up, but let you sit in an office looking at ledgers? You might as well kill me!"

Knowing the true nature of flies, Ah-hua couldn't help but sigh. Just then, his younger brother came over and said that a distinguished guest had arrived and that Ah-hua needed to make arrangements personally.

In response, Ahua could only pat Fly on the shoulder: "How about this, for the time being, I'll have those junket operators show you around the casino's operations. You can see how others do things, understand everything, and then I'll guide you."

"Fly, I have to warn you, it was Yao-ge's idea to send you to help. If you ruin his business, and Yao-ge turns against you, I won't speak well of you to him!"

Although Ah Wah invoked Ho Yiu Chung's name, temporarily intimidating Fly, the two still parted on bad terms.

In the following days, Fly stopped going to Willys Hall altogether and spent all his time in various casinos.

Ahua was busy cleaning up the mess he left behind, so he simply ignored him.

On the fifth night, a drunken Fly stumbled into the territory of the Number Gang—the Diamond Casino.

This is the location of Broken Tooth Koi, the leader of the Number Gang, and also one of the oldest casinos in Macau.

The Numbers Gang and Wo Luen Shing have always been outwardly friendly but inwardly at odds, especially after Wo Luen Shing took over the junket rights for the water houses, the Numbers Gang has been secretly vying for power.

Broken Tooth Koi is a character with a mysterious self-confidence. When he goes crazy, he dares to blow up the car of a Portuguese police superintendent and dares to say that he will fight a guerrilla war in Macau and mainland China.

Regardless of how thoroughly he backed down later, it's enough to prove that this person's mind isn't quite normal.

Ho Yiu-chung's reputation is quite high in Hong Kong, but in the current view of Broken Tooth Koi, it is clearly not enough to make the Number Gang completely settle down.

"Give me 100,000 chips!"

The fly slammed the credit card onto the counter.

The croupier in charge of reception was a glamorous woman. She smiled and took the card: "Is this your first time here, sir? Our Diamond Hall has a special offer for new customers. You can get a one million dollar advance with no interest for three days."

The fly's eyes lit up: "Such a good deal? Then give me a million!"

Over the next few hours, Fly unsurprisingly lost all of his one million chips. He then advanced another two million, only to lose it all again.

“Sir, you already owe three million.” A man in a suit appeared silently behind Fly.

Fly's eyes were red, and Ah Hua's warning began to echo in his mind—in Macau, no gambler is a winner. You can play for fun, but don't get carried away.

But if reason could overcome impulse, he wouldn't be a fly: "Give me another million! I'm sure I can win it all back!"

The man smiled and handed over a document: "I need you to sign this."

The drunken fly signed his name without even looking at it.

Another half hour passed, and his chips were reduced to zero again.

"Sir, you now owe Diamond Hall eight million."

The man's voice remained polite: "According to the contract, the daily interest rate is five percent."

"Your mother!"

The fly had completely sobered up: "Didn't you just say it was interest-free?!"

The man took out the contract and pointed to the densely packed small print: "It's clearly written here that the first three advances are interest-free, and subsequent loans will incur a daily interest rate of five percent. You've already signed it."

Fly then realized he had been tricked. He snatched the contract, took a closer look, and was immediately enraged.

"You idiot, you've been hunting geese all day, but now you've been pecked blind by them! You're trying to pull a fast one on your godfather! Do you even know who I am?!"

With that, he tore the contract to shreds: "Go to hell! I won't pay you a single penny!"

The man negotiating with the fly maintained his gentlemanly demeanor: "Sir, it's only right to pay back debts. Even if Mr. He came here and lost money, he would still pay!"

As they spoke, the casino's security guards quickly surrounded them.

Fly couldn't help but laugh in anger. Seeing that the other party was about to use force, he grabbed a chair and smashed the fish tank next to him, with glass shards and water splashing everywhere.

Before the group of henchmen could react, he quickly pulled out a custom-made self-defense pistol from his waist, pulled the hammer, and pointed it at a group of security guards.

"Want to play something? Come on!"

Faced with the fly's arrogant demeanor, the man standing in front of him finally lost his smile.

"The sun must have risen in the west today! Someone pulled out a gun in the Diamond Hall!"

Then came a group of security guards laughing mockingly. Soon, seven or eight security guards simultaneously reached behind their waists, drew their pistols, and pointed them at Fly's head.

goo-dong-

Fly swallowed hard, then very sensibly tossed the pistol onto the table and raised his hands.

"Mr. Liao, I'm sorry to trouble you to move to the VIP room next door. I'm afraid you'll have to see this embarrassing situation."

The man negotiating with Fly glanced at him, then walked over to another gambler with a smile, arranged for the staff to move the high roller out, and then returned to Fly.

He grinned maliciously at Fly a few times, then waved his hand dismissively: "Take him upstairs first. This is a distinguished guest of Wo Shing Wo; he must be treated well!"

That evening, when Ahua received the call, he was having dinner with two wealthy Malaysian businessmen.

Upon hearing the news that Fly had been detained by the Number Gang, his chopsticks paused for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure.

Ahua smiled and raised his glass: "Mr. Chen, Mr. Pan, there was a small incident at the venue. I will come back later to entertain you both."

I'll have someone bring the contract up for you two to review in a bit. If there's anything amiss, we can discuss it further when I return!

The conference room in the Diamond Hall was filled with smoke.

Broken Tooth Colt's capable general, Fierce Ghost, sat in the main seat, with four burly men standing behind him.

The fly was tied to a chair in the corner, blood trickling from its mouth, but its eyes remained fierce.

Ahua went upstairs alone, and when he saw Wuying's appearance, his eyes instantly turned cold.

"Ahua, it's been a long time."

Meng Guitian exhaled a smoke ring: "Your brother owes me eight million, and with interest, it's now twelve million."

He also broke the contract and used a gun on our premises. I want to ask you, how are you going to settle these scores?

Ahua calmly sat down and lit a cigarette.

“If I come in and see my brother sitting here safely, then everything will be fine.”

Now that you've beaten him up like this, I'm in a real bind!

"So you mean to just let this matter go like this?"

"Enough with the nonsense, give me a quote!"

However, I advise you to think carefully before you speak. Otherwise, if you quote too high a price, I might be willing to pay it, but I'm afraid you won't dare to accept it!

Meng Gui sneered: "The situation has changed now. You and Lian Sheng have crossed the sea and are thriving in Macau, but you have never said a word to us."

"So, either you give up 30% of the junket business at Willys Hall, or you pay 100 million in cash by 5 PM tonight, not a penny less."

The air in the conference room seemed to freeze.

Ahua tapped his fingers lightly on the table, his gaze sweeping over the wound on Wu Ying's face before returning to Meng Gui Tian.

Do you think his life is worth a hundred million?

Meng Gui Tian laughed loudly: "Everyone knows that you and Lian Sheng are not short of money. I think it's worth it to exchange 100 million for your brother's life!"

Ahua stood up: "I see now, your Number Gang wants to reorganize the junket rights in Macau!"

Meng Guitian still sneered: "It's so refreshing to talk to smart people. So, how about it, take the money, or sit down and continue our chat?"
