Chapter 326 Shadow, Wish, Farewell
Chapter 326 Shadow, Wish, Farewell (Seeking Monthly Tickets)
In a corner of the spiritual library, Ji Minghuan looked up, curious and surprised at the sudden appearance of the fourth shadow.
"Oh... what is this? Is it the prototype of Unit 4?" he murmured.
As he said, at some point, another corpse appeared hanging from the ceiling.
The library was empty.
The corpses of two men and a shark hung from the ceiling, their heads drooping, motionless in the setting sun. The last rays of sunlight streamed through the paper windows, casting a lingering crimson hue upon them.
Beside them, however, hung an incongruous dark shadow.
Upon closer inspection, the fourth corpse was shrouded in a light shadow, obscuring its true form. It appeared at times like some bizarre and ferocious animal, and at other times like a somewhat immature human figure, its appearance constantly shifting.
"Minghuan, you're ignoring me now, aren't you?" the Red Dragon asked in a deep voice.
Ji Minghuan stood in a corner of the library, scratching his hospital gown, staring speechlessly at Honglong's face.
It narrowed its eyes slightly, its pupils glowing a fiery red light in the shadows.
The man and the dragon stared at each other silently.
Ji Minghuan watched it quietly for a while, then sighed heavily.
"Alright, I really haven't forgotten you. The big battle is in a couple of days, and I've been very busy lately..." After saying that, he sat down in front of the red dragon, tilting his head and crossing his legs.
"So what are you planning to do next?" Red Dragon asked.
"What to do?"
"If the 'Queen Bee' was indeed born on that island, according to the Salvation Society, its strength is comparable to that of a 'mythical' being."
"Relax, relax." Ji Minghuan shrugged. "Even if the queen bee is really born, I'll kick it into a ditch."
"How confident you are." Red Dragon sneered.
“There’s no way around it; looking back and forth won’t get anything done right,” Ji Minghuan said. “We’re very close to catching the Salvation Society by the end of this operation. If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll know where the Salvation Society’s base is after this operation.”
"I think you're a bit arrogant, Minghuan," Honglong said. "You think you're a restricted-level ability user, that everything you do will lead to the results you want, so you treat reality like a game and the people around you like puppets, right?"
Ji Minghuan raised an eyebrow, curiously looked up, and silently gazed into its eyes.
“I’m nothing like that,” he asked.
"Are you planning to kill those children in the Salvation Society?" The red dragon raised its paw and scratched the reading glasses on its nose.
Ji Minghuan paused for a moment, then lowered her head, clutching her ankles in a daze. "If I could, I would hope they wouldn't die. But that's unlikely, isn't it?"
"And what about the Ripper?"
“What’s there to think about? Killing her is no problem.” Ji Minghuan raised his head and said, “If I don’t kill her, I will lose a Cataclysmic-level mecha; if I kill her, I can not only protect Xia Pingzhou, but also make the brigade follow my footsteps and obediently be taken to the Salvation Society’s base to become my help.”
What should we do with that girl in the kimono?
Upon hearing this, Ji Minghuan suddenly fell silent. He leaned back slightly, placed his palms on the floor, and sighed as he looked up at the ceiling.
"Can you please stop asking so many questions?" he said. "Now you know why I haven't been going to the library to chat with you, right?"
"I just hope you can be clear about what you really want."
"There's no such thing as having it all in this world," Ji Minghuan turned her head, looking at the sunset outside the library. "Don't cartoons always say that if you want something, you have to make sacrifices?"
"What if it was the white-haired girl who was sacrificed?"
"Then I'll destroy the Earth, and everyone will be done playing."
"Your principles and bottom line have been very clear from the very beginning."
Red Dragon glanced at him, then lowered his head and continued reading.
“If I really do treat Earth like a game, as you say, then she must be a player just like me,” Ji Minghuan said softly, her eyes lowered. “She’s my only family. If I don’t care about her, who else can I care about?”
“But you care about more people now,” Red Dragon said. “It’s just that you don’t want to think that way.”
"No way." Ji Minghuan curled her lip. "We're just taking advantage of their feelings. That's how all of us corrupted elementary school students are."
“Really?” Honglong said. “I only see a child who is pretending to be strong, but who is afraid to face his own heart.”
"Let's stop talking. We're on different paths. Don't try to educate me the way you educated Li Qingping."
Ji Minghuan rolled her eyes at it and sprawled out on the library floor in a starfish shape.
He stared blankly for a while, then suddenly asked, "When Li Qingping wanted to put the matter of Whale Court behind him and live a carefree life in the human world, did you tell him, 'Do you really not care about the Third Prince? Can you really watch the Third Prince die in Whale Court?' And then he stupidly went back to Box Court."
“I did say that,” Red Dragon did not deny it.
"I got it."
“But even if I hadn’t said that, Li Qingping would have gone back sooner or later,” Honglong said. “I was just observing the behavior of you kids to help you realize your true nature.”
"It's just a dragon, yet it's spouting such nonsense." Ji Minghuan sighed.
After a moment of silence, he slowly closed his eyes. "But you're right, that's just the kind of person he is."
At the same time, on the island of the Light-Eating Bees, in the beehive.
Joe sat at the entrance of the hive, finished reading the last book, closed it, and piled it aside with the tail of his hand.
"How boring, why haven't those humans arrived yet?" Cameron yawned and asked. "How about I go to Osaka tomorrow to have some fun? I can test my abilities."
“Cameron, don’t make any rash moves.” Melvitt scratched his head. “The Queen Bee hasn’t woken up yet. We have to stay here.”
"Let her go, the three of us are enough to hold this place," Guli said dismissively.
"I'll be back as soon as I go."
As Joe spoke, he used his tail to lift the pile of books on the ground. "Again?" Cameron asked curiously, cupping his cheeks. "What's so interesting about books from lower creatures?"
"Don't go astray in your practice," Gu Li also said.
“It’s none of your business.” Joe looked up and saw the moonlight.
“Joe, don’t go tomorrow. Play cards with me.” Melvitt said, sitting next to me without looking up. “I just learned how to play cards, and you’ve already gotten hooked on other things.”
"I'll be with you tomorrow."
With a blank expression, Qiao spread his hexagonal wings, flapped them, and shot upwards, instantly piercing through the clouds and bathing in the moonlight.
On this day, the Osaka bookstore stayed open until late at night as usual.
Su Wei sat alone behind the counter as usual, drinking coffee and looking down at an old, yellowed book.
It was left to him by his grandfather, containing the stories of the Su family throughout the generations. He hadn't opened the book in a long time. He originally intended to leave it to Su Ying, but his daughter had no desire to set foot in the world of exorcists.
A moment later, a sudden loud noise came from the street outside the bookstore.
"The commotion is still so big." Su Wei smiled.
A moment later, a long tail stepped over the threshold and entered the bookstore.
Then a dark figure walked in.
Qiao slowly raised his head, his golden eyes still cold and menacing. He had several books tucked under each arm, and three more hooked at the end of his long tail; these were all the books Su Wei had lent him yesterday.
"Old man, I'm back again."
As he spoke, he turned to look at Su Wei, who was sitting behind the counter.
"Calling me an old man is really impolite," Su Wei said without looking up. "Don't I look young enough?"
"Don't play dumb, I can tell your age," Joe said coldly.
Su Wei rubbed her temples, looking exasperated, and smiled. "So, what book do you want this time?"
Joe asked, "Shouldn't you be the one introducing me to them?"
As he spoke, he used his tail to put the three books he was hooking back on the bookshelf, and then slowly lowered the books he was holding between his arms, catching them with his tail and sending them back to the empty spaces on the bookshelf one by one.
"Have a seat first," Su Wei said. "I'm getting old, and my memory isn't so good. I'll help you find a suitable book slowly."
"Row."
Joe pulled a chair with his tail, sat down, and then quietly opened a children's picture book.
It frowned as it looked on, "Human children watch this kind of stuff?"
“Humans are different from you. We are born weak and without intelligence,” Su Wei said. “We all grow up stumbling and learning from our mistakes, which is how we got our place on Earth today.”
Joe remained silent, then looked at two more pages. The picture book contained the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.
Is running a bookstore interesting?
"It's quite relaxing, with endless books to read," Su Wei said. "Occasionally, customers come in, and someone sits with you in the bookstore and chats with you." At this point, Su Wei smiled and said, "Of course, sometimes it's also quite a headache. Some people borrow books and never return them, and then a couple of days later they say the books were destroyed by playing cards."
After a long silence, Joe finally spoke.
"I suddenly feel that opening a bookstore wouldn't be so bad." He put down his book, crossed his arms, and said, "Hey, human, do you think I'm suited for this?"
As he spoke, he turned to look at Su Wei, his golden pupils devoid of emotion.
“It’s not suitable,” Su Wei said immediately.
"Why?" Joe frowned.
"Because you are the queen bee."
"What happened to Bee Lord again?" Joe's tone turned cold.
Su Wei asked, "Won't someone like you, an outcast, be scorned by your own kind?"
He took a sip of coffee and said sarcastically, "Among the Light-Eating Bees that want to conquer the world, there is actually a queen bee whose wish is to open a bookstore in the human world."
"So what?" Joe asked. "I don't care what my people think."
"Can you abandon your own kind?" Su Wei raised her head and looked directly into his eyes. "Even if you watch them be wiped out by humans, you wouldn't care?"
Qiao lowered her head, remained silent for a moment, then looked up to meet his gaze.
"Don't push yourself too far."
"That's your answer."
“Boring,” Joe said coldly. “I’m leaving. I’ll come back tomorrow.” With that, he closed the fairy tale picture book, hooked the whole row of picture books onto the end of the book, and walked out of the bookstore.
“You might not be able to come tomorrow,” Su Wei said.
"What do you mean?" Joe stopped in his tracks.
“If you really want to open a bookstore and can make sure you don’t eat people, then don’t go back tonight,” Su Wei said. “You can wait for me in Lijing, China. I’ll be back there in a while and can teach you how to do it step by step.”
Qiao turned his head and looked coldly into Su Wei's eyes. After a while, he broke the silence.
"boring."
After saying that, he stepped out of the bookstore, spread his hexagonal wings, and soared straight into the sky.
Su Wei picked up her coffee cup and took a sip. "Why didn't you believe me when I told you?"
