Dragon Ball Arrives in Marvel

Chapter 533 Three Squads

Chapter 533 Three Squads (Bonus Chapter for Monthly Tickets)

Barbara nodded, though she didn't say anything.

Natasha asked curiously:

"What exactly did this Austrian official, Daniel Whitehall, do?"

Smith Doyle said:
"He brutally dismembered a superhuman, emptied his organs, and threw his body into a ditch."

Upon hearing Smith Doyle's words, all three people present were taken aback.

Natasha asked:
"Sir, you mean the victim came to you seeking justice?"

"She's still alive?"

Smith Doyle nodded:
"One of her superpowers is regeneration, and it's clear that Whitehall was unaware of this."

"As for the issue of authority, you don't need to worry. As an investigation team I sent, you will naturally be of a higher rank than the officials I meet, and I will cover for all your actions."

Hearing Smith Doyle's words, the three of them felt much more at ease. At least Smith Doyle wouldn't make them take the blame or abandon them.

Barbara then spoke up:
“We are still short-staffed; the three of us are not enough to be the regional survey leaders.”

Smith Doyle asked in bewilderment:

"Where are the members of our subordinate inspector general's team?"

When investigating corruption within S.H.I.E.L.D., Smith Doyle assembled a team, and they were primarily responsible for the investigation. He couldn't possibly verify information one by one by himself. Agent 13, Sharon Carter, and Agent 19, Barbara, joined the team at that time.

Sharon Carter spread her hands and said:

"Sir, it's been so long since you've been to S.H.I.E.L.D. The team members have all been transferred to various departments long ago."

"Now it's just the two of us holding on alone. Director Fury is about to transfer me to another mission."

Natasha then chimed in with her own comment:
"Sir, it seems like the last time the inspection team conducted an investigation was a year and a half ago."

"Also, I am a member of the Avengers, and I am not part of the Watchers team."

Smith Doyle gave an awkward laugh. To be honest, he didn't take the role of Inspector General very seriously. He only did it a few times at the beginning to try and put Nick Fury in a bad light. After that, his focus was on the League of Assassins and the Dragon Ball battle.

“I’ll give Nick Fury a heads-up. You guys take my orders and rebuild the team. Make sure the people are reliable and don’t let any unsuitable people in.”

"As for you, Natasha, you'll join my department. As for retaining your Avengers identity, that won't conflict with that."

Natasha then spoke up:
Should I form a squad too?

Smith Doyle thought for a moment, then nodded and said:
"Let's form one together, but it will be under my department."

Natasha laughed:
"I never expected to get promoted."

Although they were in a small team under the oversight department, they were still team leaders. Although their authority was much less than that of Team Leader Coulson, their task was internal investigation, which gave them more power internally.

"In addition, after this team is formed, its usual task is to secretly launch internal investigations, so you will have something to do."

All three nodded. Having a task to do meant that Nick Fury wouldn't be so displeased as to transfer all the personnel away.

If it weren't for Sharon Carter's connections, she wouldn't have been able to hold on with Barbara until now.

Smith Doyle then picked up the office phone and dialed the number in front of the three men.

"Connect me to Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D." Smith Doyle's call was quickly transferred to Nick Fury.

“I am Nick Fury.”

Hearing the voice coming from the other end of the phone, Smith Doyle spoke:
"Director Fury, how come after I was gone for a while, all the agents under my command were transferred away, leaving only Agents 13 and 19 as the only ones left?"

Nick Fury was taken aback when he heard Smith Doyle's question; he had actually forgotten about it.

"Sorry, Smith."

"During the Battle of New York, we lost many members, and we were short-handed, so we temporarily borrowed personnel from your side..."

"Now that everyone has been revived, should I send them back to their original positions?"

Upon hearing Nick Fury's explanation, Smith Doyle did not lose his temper, but instead said directly:

“I will have Sharon Carter and Barbara reassemble the team with my transfer order, and you must ensure that other department heads do not obstruct it.”

"In addition, Natasha has also joined my department to form a third team, while her status as a former Avenger remains unchanged."

Upon hearing Smith Doyle's words, Nick Fury hesitated and said:

"A new mission?"

"The prosecutor's office doesn't need three teams, does it?"

Nick Fury had no objection to restoring the two-team configuration, which was the original configuration of Smith Doyle's department as Inspector General. However, adding another team, led by Natasha, an Avengers member, was something to be considered.

Meanwhile, Nick Fury was also thinking that Natasha was recruited by Hawkeye and had performed exceptionally well in her missions, so she should be one of his men.

Smith Doyle promoted the other person, does that mean Natasha has become one of his people?
Or did Smith Doyle simply not think that far ahead and just conscript men directly from the Avengers?

Smith Doyle said:
"Internal investigation, anti-corruption, and corruption of power should be a regular oversight issue. We cannot set up temporary systems and then remove them when there are specific targets."

"This time, I will treat the fight against corruption as a routine task and implement it within S.H.I.E.L.D."

Hearing Smith Doyle's righteous words, Nick Fury couldn't refute them and immediately said:
"Should we send Steve Rogers over to help you?"

Smith Doyle said nonchalantly:

“I have no problem with that, but Steve is, after all, a superhuman. He should be tasked with more challenging missions. Wouldn’t it be a waste to use a superhuman in an internal anti-corruption investigation?”

"I used Natasha because she is not a superhuman."

Hearing Smith Doyle's disparaging remarks, Natasha rolled her eyes. She wanted to be a superhuman too, but she didn't have the chance.

Not being a graduate of S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy, and not possessing innate superpowers, she couldn't even get a chance to become a symbiote.

Nick Fury on the other side nodded in agreement. Smith Doyle was right. Using superhumans for internal anti-corruption was indeed a bit extravagant. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s superhumans weren't that wealthy yet.

"Okay, we'll go with your idea. I'll send the documents to all departments."

After hanging up the phone, Nick Fury contacted Hawkeye Barton to confirm Natasha's information. She had been with the Avengers recently and had not seen Smith Doyle or had any contact with him except for the gathering a couple of days ago.

They're still one of our own, no problem.
