Chapter 149, The Bodhisattva Realm of Mount Sumeru
Chapter 149, The Bodhisattva Realm of Mount Sumeru
At this moment, layers of light surged and rolled like waves, enveloping the entire ancient mountain and making it appear even more solemn, sacred, and awe-inspiring.
"Clang—clang—clang—"
The melodious sound of bells drifted from the ancient temple nestled in the mountains, rippling through the air along with the radiance of faith. In an instant, flowers rained down, and a path formed from the power of faith slowly appeared.
Suddenly, an old monk appeared in front, followed by dozens of dignified Arhats.
The old monk wore a kasaya embroidered with the eight auspicious symbols: the Dharma wheel, conch shell, parasol, white canopy, lotus flower, treasure vase, goldfish, and endless knot. These are eight auspicious symbols in Buddhism, and the robe was dazzling.
His eyebrows were snow-white, his face was full of wrinkles, and he exuded an air of authority. His first words made the old monk leading the way tense: "Amitabha, benefactor, you have a profound affinity with Buddhism and innate wisdom. Would you be willing to enter my Buddhist order?"
The old monk leading the way inwardly felt a sense of foreboding. Although Buddhism has a tradition of educating those with affinity, the person before him was the Holy Son of Yao Guang, who possessed the strength to slay a saint and was the future leader of the Yao Guang Holy Land!
"Abbot, this is the Holy Son of Yaoguang..." the old monk leading the way hurriedly reminded him in a low voice.
"So it is the Holy Son who has arrived." A glint of starlight flashed in the white-browed old monk's eyes, yet he still asked persistently, "I wonder if the Holy Son is interested in Buddhism?"
Lin Yu replied calmly, "I was just about to trouble you all for a few days to discuss the mysteries of Buddhism with you esteemed monks."
Upon hearing this, the white-browed old monk's long, snow-white eyebrows trembled slightly. Finally, he clasped his hands together and said, "The Buddha's teachings are boundless. I hope the Holy Son can gain something here." After speaking, he vanished in a flash.
The old monk who had led the way finally breathed a long sigh of relief. Lin Yu, however, did not take the matter to heart. He possessed the Dragon Pattern Black Gold Cauldron, a supreme treasure, and was not someone without connections, nor was he some reincarnation of Buddha. Only a madman would forcefully keep him here.
Looking at the dense, almost tangible power of faith covering the mountains and fields, Lin Yu sighed inwardly.
If this immense power, accumulated over hundreds of thousands of years, were fully unleashed, combined with Amitabha Buddha's relics and the Vajra Pestle, it would be almost equivalent to a Great Emperor reborn; one or two supreme beings wouldn't be enough to defeat it.
However, when the path to immortality opened, all this power of faith was sent away in one fell swoop by the faith body of the Amitabha Buddha Emperor. All the power of faith accumulated over hundreds of thousands of years was wasted, which is truly a pity.
Looking at the power of faith scattered everywhere, it's impossible not to be tempted, but the treasure already has an owner and cannot be touched.
Unless he is the head of Buddhism.
Even then, one can only take a small bite, because there is still an imperial weapon, the Vajra Pestle, there. The largest portion can only be reserved for the faith body of Amitabha Buddha.
It's such a waste of resources!
The old monk leading the way was filled with amazement, his eyes brimming with shock and admiration. He exclaimed, "The Holy Son's Buddha-nature is so pure that he can make the divine bell on Mount Sumeru ring continuously. Such talent has been rare throughout history, with only a handful of cases."
He had no idea what Lin Yu was thinking, otherwise he would never have had this expression.
The old monk explained that besides the Great Thunderclap Temple, there are many other ancient temples on Mount Sumeru. Although these temples are not descended from the lineage of Amitabha Buddha, they contain Buddhist scriptures and secret techniques. If a newcomer has a connection with a particular temple, the temple bell will ring.
Lin Yu raised an eyebrow slightly, a faint smile playing on his lips, and teased, "I see. I thought it was specially rung to welcome me. I'm truly flattered."
The two climbed the mountain together along the winding path, accompanied by the sound of a Buddhist bell with each step. The melodious sound of the bell echoed through the mountains.
Along the way, one after another, solemn and dignified Arhats and Bodhisattvas emerged from ancient temples where people were diligently practicing, and greeted them with their hands clasped together.
Some ancient temples are bustling with worshippers; others are deserted, with only a large bell emitting a lonely sound.
Lin Yu wondered, "Why is no one taking care of the temples that have lost their lineage?"
The old monk looked compassionate and slowly said, "Buddha guides those with affinity. These temples are waiting for those with affinity to come and rekindle the incense and pass on the Dharma."
Lin Yu nodded without saying a word.
As they ascended Mount Sumeru along the way, the sounds of Buddhist chants lingered all around. As the Holy Son of Yao Guang, Lin Yu was surrounded by countless rays of light wherever he went, dazzling and radiant, like a deity descending to earth. The auspicious and peaceful aura of Buddhism, illuminated by the clear sunlight, also flowed around him.
A radiant light shone, and chanting echoed—the power of the profound Buddhist teachings emanated from the land. Lin Yu walked slowly forward, surrounded by auspicious omens. Crystal-clear Bodhi leaves drifted down, their runes shimmering, as if a true Buddha had descended.
At the summit of Mount Sumeru, the Buddha's light shines everywhere.
The power of faith descends like a celestial river, blocking the fierce winds of the heavens and drawing in meteors from beyond the realm.
The sound of bells from ancient temples echoed through the mountains, and monks from various temples came out to watch. Since ancient times, few outsiders had climbed the mountain, let alone attracted such attention.
At the summit, only an ancient temple stands majestically. The four bold characters "Da Leiyin Temple" on the plaque shine brightly, and wisps of imperial aura flow endlessly from the characters. The ancient Bodhi tree in front of the temple, though its leaves have fallen and withered, has endured for eternity because it has absorbed the immortal energy.
"This is a remnant of the immortal Bodhi tree after its Nirvana," an old monk explained. "The Buddha once attained enlightenment under this tree."
Amidst the swaying shadows of the trees, a chaotic aura permeated the air, and a blurry figure appeared and disappeared—a mark of enlightenment left behind millions of years ago.
The Great Emperor Amitabha Buddha also meditated here, and his spiritual influence has not dissipated to this day.
However, this old tree was merely the shell left behind after the divine medicine's rebirth. The true Bodhi seed had long been taken by Shakyamuni to the Great Thunder Temple on Mars, and was later obtained by Ye Fan.
After visiting the Great Thunderclap Temple, Lin Yu asked Abbot Bai Mei if he could comprehend the Bodhisattva Realm.
The abbot looked troubled upon hearing this: "Holy Son, you may not know this, but traveling to the Bodhisattva Realm is extremely dangerous. Many exceptionally talented Buddhist disciples, even those designated as successors to Mount Sumeru, have mysteriously passed away in this realm."
Although the Dharma is vast and boundless, the path of cultivation is fraught with thorns. Several prodigies once recognized as reincarnations of ancient Buddhas all perished here.
"I hope the host will grant my request!" Lin Yu insisted.
"Amitabha." The abbot clasped his hands together. "If the holy son wishes to comprehend this, this humble monk will naturally guide him. However, the Bodhisattva realm is vast and boundless; I wonder which place the holy son wishes to observe?"
Seeing Lin Yu's puzzled expression, the abbot explained, "The Bodhisattva Realm is based on the power of faith; ordinary ancient temples can only cover an area of a hundred miles. But my Bodhisattva Realm on Mount Sumeru can encompass the entire Western Desert. The closer one is to the Holy Mountain, the easier it is to enter. If one is on Mount Sumeru, one can even directly step into it with one's physical body." Lin Yu nodded: "Please lead the way, Abbot."
This Bodhisattva Realm is a virtual world constructed by Buddhist sages with the power of their vast faith. It contains the spiritual imprint of great predecessors and many mysterious landscapes.
This wonder was formed by the accumulation of over 300,000 years of Mount Sumeru. As long as one does not delve into the imprints of the ancients, and merely observes the structure of the spiritual world, Buddhism is quite generous.
The host took a single step, shrinking the distance to an inch, and in the blink of an eye, he had reached the mountaintop. Looking back, Lin Yu was following closely behind, using the Secret Technique of Movement, not lagging behind by even an inch.
"After entering the realm of Bodhisattvas, I hope that you, my holy son, will not disturb the marks of the sages of the past," the abbot solemnly instructed.
“Of course,” Lin Yu replied.
As the presiding monk chanted Buddhist mantras, a spiritual gateway slowly opened amidst the resonance of sacred sounds and faith.
As the two stepped inside, they immediately felt auspicious clouds swirling around them, and the Buddha's light shining everywhere. On the distant cliffs, Arhats sat cross-legged; deep within the ancient temple, Bodhisattvas manifested. Though the figures were indistinct, they gave them a sense of undeniable reality.
Lin Yu did not stop. The phantoms of those golden Arhats were just blurry imprints left thousands or even tens of thousands of years ago. They had long lost their complete divine consciousness and were incapable of deep communication.
The entire Bodhisattva realm presented a peculiar scene of decay: a few phantom images of divine monks still gathered in front of some large Buddha imprints, but the vast area was desolate and lonely.
Of course, not all areas are open to free movement.
Some ancient temples and monasteries still radiate a brilliant light, illuminating the entire world, their radiance reaching straight into the sky. These temples, situated atop majestic sacred mountains, are the most difficult to enter, and they retain almost perfectly preserved imprints of the true Buddha.
Some forbidden areas were even more awe-inspiring. On the sacred mountain where the sound of Buddhist chants thundered, magnificent temples radiated boundless Buddhist light. Lin Yu clearly saw several ancient Buddha phantoms, as if they had crossed the river of time and descended from ancient times to preach and expound the Dharma.
"The Buddhist tradition is indeed unfathomably profound," Lin Yu thought to himself. "The sages of the past were able to create such a spiritual realm. If one could enter into deep meditation and cultivate within it, there is indeed hope of attaining the Bodhisattva level."
"To enter the Great Buddha Heaven, one must first cross the sea." The abbot pointed to a shimmering, silvery ocean. "Holy Son, why not give it a try to cross the sea?"
In the blink of an eye, the two stood on the shore of the silver sea. Amidst the crashing waves, golden lotuses bloomed, and Daoist patterns flowed. The abbot explained, "There are two methods to cross the sea: either verify it with Buddhist teachings, or break it through your own Dao."
“That suits me perfectly,” Lin Yu said loudly.
"Crossing the sea is dangerous; turn back before it's too late," the host reminded them again.
Lin Yu stared at the silver sea, then suddenly let out a long laugh and plunged straight into the sea.
Lin Yu's holy angel wings suddenly unfurled, and with a gentle tremor, the world changed color. A violent energy storm swept out, and a vacuum zone was forcibly created from the silver divine sea.
He formed a self-contained domain within a ten-zhang radius around himself, which could not be penetrated even slightly by the Buddha's light, the blooming of golden lotuses, or the intertwining of Dao traces.
Amidst the surging silver waves, he descended upon the world like a divine phoenix, each strike causing the divine sea to tremble, forcefully carving out a path through the boundless Buddhist power.
"break!"
With a clear shout, Lin Yu's body radiated brilliant holy light, and with every move he made, silver waves shattered and golden lotuses withered. This domineering way of crossing the sea drew the attention of the golden Arhats in the distance, their faces showing surprise.
"This person actually broke the law with force, completely disregarding the profound wisdom of Heming's enlightenment in the past..."
Finally, amidst the mournful cries of the vast silver waves, Lin Yu crossed the sea with invincible grace, leaving this divine sea, a symbol of the "past," completely behind.
"this"
Abbot Bai Mei's pupils constricted sharply, his face filled with shock. The Past Sea, as the highest trial in Buddhism, contained the supreme truth of Buddhist teachings.
Ordinary Buddhist disciples who enter must undergo a trial by death before they can gain any understanding. Even he, as a Buddhist disciple, practiced asceticism here for more than ten years before attaining enlightenment.
Yet this Holy Son of Yao Guang crossed it as if strolling leisurely. The supreme Dao traces within the vast silver sea and ten thousand golden lotuses were utterly insignificant before him. Every gesture he made revealed the true meaning of great freedom.
The abbot clasped his hands together, his voice ethereal: "Cross this sea, and you will enter the Great Buddha Heaven from the Bodhisattva Realm."
Lin Yu remained calm, completely unconcerned about such a division within the Great Buddha Heaven. His gaze sharpened, pointing directly to the source: "May I ask, Abbot, is this the core of the spiritual world?"
“Amitabha.” The abbot nodded slightly. “Bodhisattva realm and Great Buddha heaven are both based on Mount Sumeru and originate from immeasurable faith. This mountain is the pillar supporting the sky, the root defining the boundaries, existing eternally between reality and illusion.”
Lin Yu's brow twitched slightly, and his Lord's Eye shone with a faint golden light, piercing through the void. In an instant, countless Dao patterns flowed within his eyes, as if countless worlds were born, perished, and reincarnated within them.
The abbot remained calm upon seeing this. Mount Sumeru is a repository of the power of Buddhist faith accumulated over 300,000 years. Even saints who personally visit it would find it difficult to fathom its mysteries. Apart from Amitabha Buddha, who has mastered the path of faith, others find it tasteless.
Lin Yu sat cross-legged in front of the mountain, with his back to the sea and facing the mountain, lost in thought.
The abbot stood quietly to one side, recalling what he had recently heard: this holy son was adept at governing the world, integrating the dynasty, and seemed poised to transform Yao Guang into a behemoth like the Central Plains Divine Dynasty. What was even more intriguing was that he was also promoting the method of cultivating one's vows.
"Could it be," the abbot thought to himself, "that he intends to emulate our Buddhist sect and establish his own realm of Taoism?" He couldn't help but smile at the thought.
A month passed in the blink of an eye. Lin Yu slowly opened his eyes, his gaze seemingly reflecting a reversed Milky Way.
"Has the Holy Son gained anything?"
"I have gained some understanding, and I must thank the abbot for granting this request."
The abbot smiled without speaking. Mount Sumeru is a cosmic wonder, and combined with hundreds of thousands of years of Buddhist accumulation, it has formed such a spiritual world. Even if its core secrets were made public, who in the world could replicate such a profound foundation?
