Chapter 12: Bee Driving (Part )

The most intuitive way to destroy a hornet's nest is to burn it. Fire and water are the most ruthless. No matter what it is, they will destroy everything.

But how to cook it is worth considering.

Luc stood in the distance holding a torch. Wasps are active during the day and return to the hive in the early morning and evening.

So Luc's plan was very simple and crude: first find a piece of grass and clear it out, take advantage of the opportunity when the hornets return to the nest, pick up the hornet's nest as quickly as possible and throw it on the cleared ground, and finally burn it all with a torch. Clearing the grass is to avoid causing a fire.

This plan looks simple, but it actually has many dangerous aspects, such as removing a hornet's nest.
Luc's protective measures could not really protect himself. At best, they could only resist a few scattered hornets. Once he was swarmed by the hornets, he would be considered well protected as long as he did not die.

First, they found a piece of grass. In this era when most people suffer from night blindness, people like Luc who can see the road clearly at night are called Eagle Eyes. Some nobles will even recruit people with Eagle Eyes to form their own guards.

Luc marked a square area on the grass, which was just right for the wasp. Then he used a knife to clear the weeds around the edges. Of course, Luc would not be stupid enough to remove all the weeds manually, but chose a traditional method: making an isolation belt.
Clear the weeds around the meadow to create two inches of bare soil, isolating the vegetation on that plot of land from the forest grass, and then set it on fire so that the flames only burn the grass inside.

Looking at the grassland with billowing smoke, the wind tonight was towards the southwest, which was exactly opposite to the position of the hornets, and did not disturb the hornet's nest.

"The southwest wind means it's going to rain."

Luc felt the mountain breeze that was colder than usual. In Burgundy or the Franconian land, there would usually be westerly or southwesterly winds before it rained. These were winds from the Atlantic Ocean.

"Looks like we have to speed up!"

Luc left the torch in the burned area, added some more firewood to ensure that the flame would not go out, and then began to pick the hornet's nest.

Luc tiptoed forward. The beehive at the intersection of two trees was very low, otherwise little Charlie would not have accidentally touched it. But because it was low, Luc could see more clearly the outlines of several wasps crawling on the nest.
The beehive is like a castle, and inside the castle there are more "soldiers".

Luc is now playing the role of an assassin who attacks the castle at night.

Once the castle is alerted, there will be an immediate threat of death.

Luc took each step carefully, pausing after each step and continuing forward when he was sure there was no danger.

Yesterday, Luc was confused as to why the wasp with static vision would continue to cling to him even after he squatted down and covered his head. Today, he figured it out - the smell!
Wasps can also pursue a person with their pungent smell!

This is also why many girls who wear perfume are more likely to be stung by wasps. Of course, Luc doesn't have perfume, but he has sweat that is equally as pungent.
Don't forget, although Luc took a bath, the waist shirt on his body has not been washed for many years.
It's not just Luc. How many of the free people and serfs own a second piece of clothing?
Some lords even stipulated that peasants could only wear specified colors or styles to show the nobility's dignity.

Therefore, the role of yellow mud is not only to enchant the skin in small amounts, but also to temporarily cover up the smell.

Luc was getting closer and closer to the hornet's nest, close enough that he could see the faces of the patrolling soldiers on the outside.

But apparently, these soldiers hadn't discovered him yet, which made Luc feel relieved. Just as Luc was about to run up and storm the castle, he suddenly saw that at the bottom of the beehive, there was a gap facing him, just like the gate of a castle!
"No, it's not Wanru, that's the gate!"

Luc's eyes lit up, he thought of a great plan!

If the gates of a castle are wide open, it will lose its essence of being easy to defend and difficult to attack, and will be easily captured by the enemy.

Similarly, if the door of the beehive is blocked, it will also lose the way to send the "army" out of the city, and can only watch Luke ravage it!

Without a word, Luc discovered the fatal flaw in the hive and quickly returned. He rolled up a large ball of grass, compressed it repeatedly until it was incredibly tight, and then returned to the hornet's nest. Holding his breath, he stretched out his arm and slowly pushed it towards the hornet's nest.
Luke's eyes were stern. If he could block the hive, a large number of hornets would no longer threaten him and he would have no choice but to wait for death.

But at this moment, there was a buzzing sound in Luc's ears!
A wasp crawling on the beehive finally discovered Luc, just like a hare discovering an eagle. After a start, it immediately flapped its wings and rushed towards Luc!
At the same time, the wasp uses the unique frequency of the colony to remind its companions in the hive that an uninvited guest has entered their territory.

In an instant, the hive was filled with deafening buzzing sounds!

"Damn it! He's so alert!"

Luke's pupils shrank drastically. He no longer hesitated, gritted his teeth, took a few steps forward, and before the swarm of hornets came out, he stuffed the grass ball into the "city gate"!
A wasp that just showed its head was immediately pushed back!

Listening to the buzzing and banging of the round beehive, Luc's scalp tingled. He did not dare to delay at all. He took off the nest rope hanging on the branch and ran towards the open space like a fly.

The two wasps that had discovered Luc in advance saw that Luc had taken away the nest, and they kept stinging Luc like crazy, but they couldn't sting his body that was covered with thick chain mail.
The man and two bees ran to the open space in the blink of an eye. Luc put down the hive, surrounded it with branches, then raised the torch that had been waiting nearby and lit the hornet's nest with his backhand!

Clouds of smoke and the sizzling sound of barbecue echoed in the woods. The two hornets that had bitten Luc sensed this and stopped pestering him. Instead, they ran towards the nest, ignoring the smoke they had been afraid of before, and hovered over the fire. The more intense buzzing sound seemed to be wailing and howling.

Luc was breathing heavily, relaxing the throbbing of his heart, and watching this scene, he suddenly felt a sense of tragedy.

The inside of a bee colony is a kingdom, and the queen bee, worker bees, and young bees are like the citizens of the kingdom.

And Luc is the enemy who invaded this country.

The two hornets failed to drive away the enemy and had to watch their country being destroyed. It must have felt bad.

Luke sighed with emotion, and suddenly he found that the burning beehive had a great chance of survival.
This is because the hive is too large, and the firewood flame cannot burn the hive quickly. Instead, it will destroy part of it and release some surviving wasps.
Seeing this, Luke immediately took out the rabbit oil he had ground from his waist and poured it on the honeycomb. With a whoosh, the fire suddenly exploded!

Countless hornets died instantly!
A strong smell of chicken wafted out, that was the smell of roasted wasps
Blowing away the smoke, Luc smacked his lips.
"Of course, since they're enemies, we have to destroy them all."

"This is the law of the jungle. Unfortunately, we are in the jungle now."
