Chapter 290, Solutions to Collector Obsessions in Weizigou
Chapter 290, Solutions to Collector Obsessions in Weizigou
Bang!
Under the blue sky and white clouds, everything was a snow-white scene, beautiful as it was, but devoid of any life.
Wang Duoyu and his companions walked for more than two hours in the snow before finally encountering an eagle that had come out to forage for food.
The eagle happened to appear hundreds of meters above everyone's heads, so let's not blame the shotguns.
After aiming, I pulled the trigger, but missed.
Even if we let the bullet fly a little longer, it wouldn't make a difference, because it really missed, and the eagle was scared away.
"We really can't see any snow leopards. Looks like we have to go back."
After missing the eagle, Wang Duoyu and his team continued slowly for a while, now more than three kilometers away from the convoy.
In order to avoid making mistakes and to survive, Wang Duoyu made many preparations.
But he didn't really need to come out and suffer, since there were plenty of supplies in the camp and he had no worries about food or clothing.
His insistence on going out was naturally to take a stroll, clear his mind, and see the high-altitude region covered in snow.
As for oxygen deficiency, Wang Duoyu has never experienced such a situation.
Whether it's because he's a time traveler or not, his physical resistance is pretty good. He didn't jump around or do anything reckless in the high-altitude area, so he's been fine so far.
"Hmm, you can walk a few hundred meters further in that direction. If it's not there, then we should go back."
The guide said something, and Wang Duoyu nodded in agreement, indicating that there was no problem.
Then came another period of silent travel.
That's how hunting is; aside from enjoying the scenery, most of the time is spent on tedious travel.
At the same time, caution is still needed during the journey to avoid oxygen deprivation or other accidents.
In high-altitude areas, the possibility of accidents is very high, so extreme caution is required.
More than half an hour later, the guide suddenly reached his hand behind him, and everyone immediately lowered their heads.
Although everyone is wearing white coats to make themselves look white, they are still moving bodies, and to many wild animals, they are walking food.
Wild animals have an extremely keen sense of smell, and any animal that is still out foraging in early November is definitely a formidable foe.
Because how could any animal that can survive and thrive in such a desolate and harsh environment be ordinary?
Following the guide's pointing finger, Wang Duoyu and his group quickly spotted the activity about 700 or 800 meters away: several argali sheep licking rocks on the mountainside.
There were about eight blue sheep in sight, but we haven't found any others hiding in other locations yet.
Wang Duoyu and his group used binoculars to check and confirmed the number of argali sheep, but their view was blocked and they couldn't see them clearly.
"Look everyone, what's that over there? Is it a snow leopard?"
Just as everyone was holding their breath and observing intently, the guide made a new discovery.
Upon hearing this, everyone looked more closely and soon spotted the snow leopard.
It is indeed a very beautiful leopard. Although it is not as big as a tiger, it is definitely a very beautiful feline.
There are many large cats in the world, such as Siberian tigers, Bengal tigers, Sumatran tigers, lions, jaguars, leopards, and snow leopards.
Among the most beautiful large felines, the snow leopard is undoubtedly the most beautiful. The clouded leopard and serval are also very attractive.
As the world's most beautiful feline, the snow leopard is renowned, and many people love its fur, making it extremely valuable. Hunting snow leopards has become a source of income for many hunters.
Of course, snow leopards live in the remote Himalayas year-round, so they are not so easy to encounter.
However, snow leopards have relatively fixed activity routes, and many hunters familiar with snow leopards will set traps on these routes, which is likely the reason why snow leopards are so rare.
In fact, during his previous life, Wang Duoyu had heard many stories about snow leopards being hunted in retaliation by local herders during his several trips to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
The reason is simple: although there have been no reports of these snow leopards harming humans so far, they frequently visit livestock sheds and hunt poultry and livestock such as chickens, ducks, and sheep belonging to herders.
This enraged the herders, who then retaliated by killing the snow leopards.
Wang Duoyu had no intention of protecting the snow leopards, because he couldn't protect them alone, and the snow leopards were just top predators in the Himalayas, so they didn't need his protection.
On the contrary, the fact that he was fortunate enough to encounter a snow leopard today was the result of what he had been waiting for for several years.
In his past life, he was unable to hunt snow leopards, but now he can hunt them legally and compliantly.
He had been to Shangri-La several times before, venturing into the deep forests at an altitude of three to four thousand meters, but had never encountered a snow leopard.
He had been out of the ALD district for several days this time, and had originally planned to leave the ALD district if he couldn't find it today.
It's already early November, and if he doesn't leave soon, the mountains will be completely blocked by heavy snow, and he won't be able to leave even if he wants to.
After all, this is a plateau area at an altitude of over 5,000 meters. It may snow as early as September, and heavy snow is common in October. By November, the mountains are completely blocked by heavy snow.
Since fate has allowed him to encounter such a snow leopard, Wang Duoyu certainly won't let fate's bounty go to waste.
At most, if a snow leopard conservation base is established in the future, Wang Duoyu will donate a sum of money.
"It really is a snow leopard, Professor Wang, we..."
"I'll fight, but I'll be the one to fight, haha!"
Wang Duoyu immediately said excitedly, and Yuan Zuliang, the guide, and the others all nodded in agreement.
They came out of the country because of Wang Duoyu; otherwise, they wouldn't have come out to suffer.
As long as Wang Duoyu is happy, everything else is trivial.
As for Wang Duoyu's shooting skills?
Haha, that's still pretty awesome.
It's worth noting that Wang Duoyu exercises regularly; it's just that he hasn't been exercising as often in the past month or so.
But when he returns to Harbin Institute of Technology or settles down in a certain place, he immediately enters a very regular lifestyle.
Sharpshooting requires practice. Wang Duoyu consumes at least five hundred bullets every month. In addition, he is a mathematics professor and an expert in solving strong solutions to Navier-Stokes equations. He is very knowledgeable about parabolas, mechanics, wind direction, universal gravitation, and so on.
After arriving in the ALD area, Wang Duoyu also specially chose an open space to practice his shooting skills. He wondered if it was possible to pull the trigger in this environment. This was a high-altitude and cold region, and the wind direction and other conditions might be different.
These are all things that need to be considered carefully.
Furthermore, even if Wang Duoyu hadn't hit the snow leopard, Yuan Zuliang and his team would have been helpless.
"We're currently downwind of them, but snow leopards are very agile."
Wang Duoyu suddenly spoke up, and Yuan Zuliang and the others immediately dared not move.
Because snow leopards have six times the vision of humans in low-light environments, they can hunt accurately in near-dark conditions. This is because of their large eye sockets and highly developed binocular vision, which allows them to quickly lock onto prey in complex terrain.
In that case, Wang Duoyu and his group must be extremely careful if they want to get close to these argali and snow leopards.
Don't underestimate the fact that they are currently seven or eight hundred meters away from the argali and about one kilometer away from the snow leopard. However, the snow leopard has excellent eyesight, and the argali is also a top-notch escape artist with a very keen sense of smell.
Therefore, Wang Duoyu said that the maximum distance should be about three or four hundred meters. If they went any further, it would become very dangerous and would scare away the snow leopards and argali sheep.
Although the argali sheep had not yet spotted the snow leopard, and although Wang Duoyu and his companions were still far from both the argali sheep and the snow leopard, and they were currently focused on their food, it did not mean that they were not paying attention to their surroundings.
The snow leopard wants to hunt the blue sheep, and it needs to get as close as possible. It is currently two or three hundred meters away and is still slowly approaching.
Therefore, Wang Duoyu and another guide kept their bodies low and moved slowly through the snow, trying their best not to make too much noise so that the snow leopards and argali sheep would notice them.
Wang Duoyu had to admit that this was the most serious and grueling hunt he had ever undertaken since he traveled to this parallel universe and participated in so many hunts.
It wasn't just that finding a snow leopard took him several days, but also that getting close to the snow leopard became extremely difficult.
Just as they were about 500 meters away from the snow leopard, snowflakes suddenly began to fall from the sky.
Snowfall is not a good thing. Even if snow leopards may not pay as much attention to or be as sensitive to movements a few hundred meters away, Wang Duoyu and his team still need to get closer to find the best angle and distance for shooting.
"Let's take advantage of this moment and move forward a little further," Wang Duoyu said.
The guide nodded and led Wang Duoyu forward.
Especially at times like these, we must be extra careful, because if we take the wrong step and are spotted by the snow leopard or alert the blue sheep, all our efforts will be in vain.
The snowflakes were not large at the moment, but they were showing a tendency to gradually grow larger.
That's how the weather is in high-altitude areas—unpredictable.
I really don't know how these blue sheep survive on the almost 90-degree mountain walls.
You should know that it's not just because winter is coming soon and there are no green plants left, but also because it's all covered in ice and snow. The only place where they stand is where there isn't much snow.
Of course, during the winter, the blue sheep rely on vines on cliffs and rocks, which are rich in minerals and salt, to replenish their nutrients.
Looking at the argali sheep 300 meters away, Wang Duoyu then looked at the snow leopard and regulated his breathing.
Now it's time to pull the trigger.
However, we still need to be cautious.
Because this is a snow-capped mountain, if the gunshots trigger something unexpected, such as an avalanche, then it will be troublesome.
Therefore, the location for ambushing and hunting is crucial.
Wang Duoyu glanced at Yuan Zuliang and the others a few dozen meters away, made a hand gesture, and then prepared to fire.
After he fired, Yuan Zuliang and his men would also shoot at the argali sheep.
These were all prey, all carnivores. Now that they had encountered them, Yuan Zuliang and his men couldn't simply ignore them.
Hunting in the snowy mountains, it is normal to go for days without finding any prey. But if you find prey but fail to kill it or let it go, you will definitely feel frustrated.
After all, they've come out hunting; there's no reason for them to return empty-handed.
Bang!
This time, Wang Duoyu aimed very accurately, and his marksmanship was flawless.
Almost immediately after the gunshot rang out, the snow leopard fell to the ground in the scope.
At the same time, Yuan Zuliang, Mou Xiaowu, Xiang Dao, and others also pulled the trigger.
Bang bang bang!
After several shots were fired in succession, everyone nervously checked the distant mountain peaks with binoculars, fearing that an avalanche might have actually occurred.
However, with snowflakes falling heavily, it took everyone quite a while to see clearly that the snow-capped mountain was not moving, and only then were they completely relieved.
If it really triggers an avalanche, you definitely have to escape immediately.
Only after confirming that there was no avalanche did everyone look at the avalanche and the blue sheep.
"Great, they've all fallen."
Eight blue sheep and one snow leopard were all captured.
This time it was a great success.
So, one of the security personnel accompanying the group took out a walkie-talkie and began to notify the convoy, which was several kilometers away, to come over quickly.
Walkie-talkies, depending on their power, generally have a communication range of about one to ten kilometers.
Meanwhile, the vehicle-mounted walkie-talkie repeater, located several kilometers away, weighs less than ten kilograms and is a cutting-edge product from Harbin Institute of Technology. With a rated power of 10W, its signal range exceeds twenty kilometers.
Especially in environments like snow-capped mountains, the distance can be even greater because there are few obstacles.
This is also one of the ways Wang Duoyu saves his life.
After all, communication is the most critical issue. If he couldn't ensure that he could always stay in touch with the team, Wang Duoyu would definitely be very worried.
Within a 20-kilometer radius, Wang Duoyu wouldn't need to worry about getting lost.
The convoy that received the notification also began to head in the direction of Wang Duoyu and his group.
Half an hour later, Yuan Zuliang and his team found the snow leopard and the blue sheep. It took them another half hour to collect them all before they began to butcher them.
After all, these argali sheep and snow leopards are still alive and their bodies are not frozen, so they can be quickly butchered. Otherwise, it would be much more difficult to butcher them once they return to the Ali Observatory camp.
"Professor Wang, your marksmanship is truly remarkable. One shot, and it's dead. The snow leopard's fur is perfectly preserved."
Hearing Yuan Zuliang and the others' praise, Wang Duoyu smiled modestly.
He has another collectible item, which is quite nice.
In this day and age, he can still hunt legally, but in another ten years or so, that won't be possible.
Especially after 1996, guns began to be banned.
At the same time, many wildlife protection laws will be introduced one after another after that year.
In other words, if he wants to hunt, he'll have to go abroad. He can't just break the law, can he?
But you can cultivate other hobbies later.
He was like that in his past life too; he had different hobbies at different ages.
I won't go into details about my childhood, I was very naive. In college, I liked to date. In my twenties, when I was pursuing a master's degree, I liked to do scientific research. For more than ten years, apart from work and business trips, I had almost no other hobbies. Every day was just work, eating, and sleeping.
They haven't even been in a relationship.
But after I turned thirty, I worked at Peking University as a lecturer, and started a family. That's when I began to cultivate my hobbies. I traveled and fished, but I only went hunting when I was abroad, and I couldn't enjoy it to my heart's content.
This is the main reason why he enjoys hunting so much in this era.
On the other hand, he has a collecting obsession; he likes to collect a lot of animal fur as his trophies.
Now that the most beautiful feline, the snow leopard, has been captured, what's next?
It's a pity I can't go abroad, otherwise I could try hunting lions.
Looking at the snow leopard pelt in his hand, Wang Duoyu smiled and then returned to the camp with everyone.
The return journey went smoothly without any unexpected events, and this trip to the ALD district was a dream come true.
So he's pretty much done leaving by now.
Back at the camp, Li Yuming and the others were astonished to learn that Wang Duoyu and his men had finally brought back a lot of prey, including a snow leopard.
Everyone knows that Wang Duoyu came to the ALD area this time not only to check the progress of the project, but also to hunt snow leopards. Unexpectedly, he actually achieved his goal.
"Snow leopard meat is quite delicious; we'll stew it tonight. Luckily, we brought a lot of sauces and spices."
The guide said something, and everyone cheered.
There are just so many people, there might not be enough to go around.
But it doesn't matter. With eight mountain sheep, each of them can barely get a piece of meat, right?
There were over three hundred people in the camp, plus Wang Duoyu and his group, which brought over forty more people – no small number.
Eight Himalayan blue sheep may sound like a lot, but these sheep typically weigh around 40 kilograms, and a meat yield of 40% is considered quite good.
why?
Because it's almost winter, the argali sheep have very heavy and thick wool, so a large portion of their weight has to be deducted, resulting in a low meat yield.
Even if each argali sheep can produce 32 jin of mutton, the final meat from eight argali sheep would only amount to 256 jin.
There were over three hundred people, roughly four hundred, and dividing the 256 jin of mutton among them, each person would barely get seven or eight liang, which wasn't a small amount.
Of course, if the food from the water were included, then they could get a larger share. Everyone happily ate the mutton and had a pleasant evening.
The next day arrived, and Wang Duoyu and the others were about to leave, but Li Yuming did not leave with them.
"Professor Li, aren't you coming back with us?"
"No, I'll stay here. I've already secured myself."
He has already coordinated with Professor Zhu Lishun, and Zhu Lishun will take over the duty here next winter.
The construction of this observatory will take at least seven or eight years, and it may not even be fully completed within that time.
Who can blame them when this telescope is so exquisite and has such high requirements?
Furthermore, the maintenance of the observatory telescopes after their construction is also a crucial aspect.
Therefore, running an electric power line from elsewhere to this location, or setting up a solar power system here, are all crucial considerations.
Harbin Institute of Technology has relevant technologies for power transmission equipment, storage batteries, and power generation equipment, but these technologies need to be adapted to the environment of high-altitude and cold regions.
Take power transmission lines as an example. After entering winter, the power transmission lines here often get icy. If the ice on these power lines is not cleaned in time, there is a risk of them collapsing.
Solar power generation systems also face various challenges.
Li Yuming and Zhu Lishun are both professors and experts in astronomy. They may not understand the electrical technology, but they are absolutely certain that this observatory telescope must be built.
No matter how many difficulties we encounter, it must be established; it won't do if it's not established!
"Alright, since you're not coming with us, we'll leave now. We'll drink and eat meat when you come back to school."
"Okay, it's a deal!"
After saying goodbye to Li Yuming and the others, Wang Duoyu set off and spent several days returning to Chengdu. Only then did he prepare to take the train northward back to Harbin Institute of Technology.
"Huh, Old Lou?"
Not long after departing from Chengdu, passing through a train station in one of the prefecture-level cities, Wang Duoyu suddenly saw his old classmate Lou Jianguo through the train window after the train pulled into the station, and was immediately filled with doubt.
"Xiao Wu, go and ask around for me to see which carriage he's in."
Mu Xiaowu immediately climbed out of the car window, squeezed through the crowd, and sped off towards Lou Jianguo's location.
Yuan Zuliang and his group had been with Wang Duoyu for several years, so of course they knew Lou Jianguo as well.
Half an hour later, Lou Jianguo came to Wang Duoyu.
Upon meeting, Lou Jianguo was quite surprised and delighted. After exchanging pleasantries, he said:
"Hey Duoyu, you're really living the high life! Didn't you go on vacation to Xinjiang? What are you doing on this train?"
Wang Duoyu ran away in late September, supposedly to Xinjiang to see the scenery, while Lou Jianguo returned to his hometown of Wolong Village in mid-October, so they didn't know that Liu Xiaoli and the others had already returned to Harbin Institute of Technology.
After a brief explanation, Wang Duoyu was puzzled as to why Lou Jianguo had come back to his hometown when it wasn't a holiday.
After all, Lou Jianguo had already moved his family to Harbin, and his wife and children were all living in the faculty dormitory at Harbin Institute of Technology. It wasn't summer or winter vacation yet, so what kind of business would it be for him to come back to his hometown?
Only after asking did I learn that Lou Jianguo's father had passed away, and he had rushed back to attend the funeral, staying for a long time before finally returning home.
His mother was unwilling to leave Wolong Village, and he had two older brothers and two older sisters who lived near Wolong Village. Naturally, his mother was unwilling to go to such a far place as Bingcheng.
Lou Jianguo, unable to fulfill his filial duties, was in a bad mood, but he stayed at home for a while longer before returning to Harbin.
After listening, Wang Duoyu remained silent.
He thought of his parents in his previous life, when his situation was similar to Lou Jianguo's.
He never met his parents in this life; they passed away early, so naturally he had no memory of them.
In his previous life, after he became a lecturer at Peking University, and especially after buying a house in Beijing, he wanted to bring his parents to Beijing to retire. But as you can imagine, the old couple were not willing.
Many things happened afterward. Relatives passed away one after another, and there were not many friends or relatives left. However, when Wang Duoyu went back to try to persuade them, he still couldn't get through to them.
They prefer to live in their familiar villages rather than go to the capital to 'enjoy a life of luxury'.
Ugh!
"Condolences!"
Wang Duoyu patted Lou Jianguo on the shoulder and sighed.
The subsequent trip, with Lou Jianguo's involvement, actually diminished the original research atmosphere for Wang Duoyu.
"Holy crap, Duoyu, you're actually researching this functor conjecture? I heard Professor Milno has been working on this problem for years and still hasn't cracked it. I didn't expect you to jump into this pit too?"
Because Lou Jianguo was also present, it was inevitable that Lou Jianguo would find out what Wang Duoyu was researching.
However, Lou Jianguo didn't quite understand the proof steps Wang Duoyu was taking; otherwise, he wouldn't have been so superficially surprised.
After all, the functor conjecture is very difficult even for top mathematicians like John Milnor, let alone Lou Jianguo and his team.
Simply put, Lou Jianguo is several Qiu Chengtongs behind John Milnor and his ilk.
This gap is really hard to explain clearly.
It's like comparing heaven and earth; the difference is enormous.
Although Lou Jianguo is currently a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Harbin Institute of Technology, there are several levels above him that are not yet clearly defined, such as future Yangtze River Scholars and Young Scholars.
Only after that can one become a member of the academic division, that is, an academician, and then a recipient of some international mathematics awards, such as the Wolf Prize in Mathematics and the Abel Prize.
The Fields Medal is the highest honor in mathematics, and only those who receive it are considered among the world's top mathematicians.
However, even among Fields Medal winners, there are differences. For example, there is a difference between John Milnor, who is in his fifties, and Shing-Tung Yau, who is in his early thirties.
Mathematicians typically reach their peak before the age of forty, because mathematical research is extremely mentally and physically demanding. After forty, the body begins to decline; even if the mind can still function quickly, the body can no longer keep up and can no longer stay up late.
Otherwise, the Fields Medal wouldn't be awarded to people in the forty-year-old age group.
"Yes, I am indeed researching this, but it's a secret. Just keep it to yourself and don't tell anyone, not even your wife and kids."
Upon hearing Wang Duoyu's words, Lou Jianguo asked in confusion: Why?
Is there anything about this theoretical research that can't be revealed?
"You haven't been involved in this research, so you don't understand. It's like the strong solution to the Navier-Stokes equations; you should know very well that if someone could solve it, they probably wouldn't be foolish enough to publish it publicly."
Upon hearing this, Lou Jianguo nodded solemnly.
Now that Wang Duoyu has said so, he certainly won't make these things public again.
"Of course, the symphony conjecture isn't a research topic like that, but I don't want others to know about it, so they won't bother me."
"Holy crap, Duoyu, I remember now. You didn't secretly prove it and then hide it, did you? Professor Shing-Tung Yau seems to have mentioned this before. Damn, you're really cunning."
Lou Jianguo, who had been looking surprised, suddenly realized what was happening and immediately said:
"That's not right. If you hide all the proofs, what if someone proves them beforehand and publishes them? Wouldn't all your work have been for nothing?"
Wang Duoyu smiled and shook his head:
"How could it be a waste of time? It's their business what they say. I just need to do my own thing. Why should I care about what others think?"
Living should be about making yourself happy, not about letting other people's opinions confine you.
"You're amazing, I can't compare to you!"
Lou Jianguo gave a thumbs up, then leaned closer and asked in a low voice:
"But could you secretly tell me just how many research results you've been hiding?"
"You really want to know?" Wang Duoyu raised an eyebrow and asked with a half-smile. Lou Jianguo immediately nodded.
But then Wang Duoyu continued:
"Hehe, once I prove this fuzzy conjecture, I'll have one too."
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" Lou Jianguo immediately shook his head, disbelievingly exclaiming.
"That's impossible. How could you not have hidden the evidence?"
Wang Duoyu rolled his eyes and shrugged: "Believe it or not!"
The boat of friendship can capsize at any time.
The topic ended there, and Lou Jianguo did not pursue the matter further.
A few days later, they finally returned to Harbin. At the train station, Liu Deben and Lü Gongliang both came to pick him up. It was unclear whether they were in dire need of help or not, otherwise why would they both come to the train station to meet him?
Not really, right?
Whether it was serious or not, Wang Duoyu was taken to the car anyway.
As soon as he got in the car, Liu Deben immediately said:
"In Finland, in Northern Europe, a mobile communications company called Nokia has launched a new phone that's incredibly powerful."
From Liu Deben, Wang Duoyu learned about Nokia, a formidable competitor, who had produced a Nokia S100 phone that had never appeared in the original timeline.
Most importantly, the price of this phone has not yet been announced.
Nowadays, mobile phone launch events are all like press conferences, made very mysterious, because Motorola had a very bad start.
Previously, due to the cordless phone issue from Huaxin Company, Motorola only announced the details of the Motorola 8000X mobile phone, but did not immediately disclose the price.
After the price was announced, Huaxin Company's series of price reductions completely broke my defenses.
Because of this, Nokia is now afraid that Huaxin and Motorola will do the same thing. If they compete with each other like this, then they will have no choice but to lower their prices.
But it's clear that Nokia doesn't just want to sell the Nokia S100 in Northern Europe; it wants to sell the phone globally.
After all, Nokia was the first company in the world to launch true mobile communication technology, and it was undoubtedly a pioneer in mobile communication technology.
However, the current mobile communication giants are CEFC and Motorola. Motorola is not ranked second because it has no competitors, but because it cannot beat CEFC.
Even if Motorola couldn't beat CEFC, its technological strength and product quality were still quite formidable, as evidenced by its sales figures.
"So Nokia hasn't announced the price yet, right?"
Wang Duoyu asked with a smile, and Liu Deben and Lü Gongliang in the passenger seat nodded in agreement.
So what if there's no price? It's not like we can't beat Nokia.
Even Motorola can only make a little money in other markets now, but in the US market, Motorola's market share is very low.
"Once they announce the price, we can lower it, but not by too much. We can also launch the second generation of our PHS (Personal Handyphone System) phones directly."
The so-called second-generation PHS phone is naturally a phone that can send and receive text messages, and can also send emails.
Therefore, this second-generation PHS phone will feature more updated technologies, such as memory capacity, which will definitely be different.
Meanwhile, SMS service fees can also be offered on a monthly basis, and there are many other different charges as well, which telecommunications giants such as AT&T will surely love.
For many people who want to experience new technologies, or for most people who have such text messaging needs, the second generation of PHS phones is undoubtedly very attractive.
If sales of the second-generation PHS phone stagnate after six months or a year on the market, then a trade-in program can be implemented to boost sales again.
why?
Because after the second generation of Xiaolingtong (a type of mobile phone), that was the time when real mobile phones were launched.
After all, second-generation mobile phones not only implemented digital voice transmission technology, providing clearer call quality than the first-generation analog communication, but also offered SMS services, low-data transmission, picture messaging, and multimedia messaging services.
PHS phones can certainly receive text messages and even send pictures, but the speed is definitely very slow, and the signal coverage is only 500 meters. It won't work in places a little further away.
However, the coverage of second-generation mobile communication technology reached ten kilometers, which not only reduced the cost of base station construction but also greatly increased the signal strength.
For example, within a 10-kilometer radius, multiple 2G signal base stations could be assumed, but the investment in such base stations would not be much higher than that of microcellular technology base stations used in PHS (Personal Handyphone System) phones.
However, the signal strength can be improved significantly.
Before Wang Duoyu and his friends had finished talking, the car had already returned to Harbin Institute of Technology.
Now that we're at school, let's stop talking for now.
However, Wang Duoyu was not able to go home first; instead, Liu Deben and the others dragged him to the office.
Back in the secretary's office, Wang Duoyu had barely sat down when he heard Liu Deben and the others talk about several work-related matters.
For example, in the two months since Wang Duoyu left, Harbin Institute of Technology has not seen much change in technologies such as atomic force microscopy, but it has actually achieved quite a few scientific research results.
In addition to atomic force microscopes, other microfabrication devices such as fiber end face and side face micromachining systems, fiber grating fabrication systems, and three-dimensional surface profilometers have also emerged.
Wang Duoyu knew that these technical devices were indeed close to harvest time, but he didn't expect them to be completed at such a concentrated time.
On the other hand, the overall construction of the Weizigou campus is almost complete, and interior decoration is underway.
We should be able to move in by next summer.
"So fast?" Wang Duoyu asked in surprise, raising his eyebrows.
The Weizigou campus was proposed to be built as a branch campus in September 1984, but after the planning was revised, it was decided that it would be better to build a new main campus directly.
The old campus can no longer accommodate so many people.
The main reason is that the old campus is already overcrowded, and in the past few years, the 80s, 81s, 82s and 83s have negotiated with nearby villages and communities every year.
Although the neighbors were all very willing to relocate, because Harbin Institute of Technology not only offered them ample financial support but also gave them face, along with other implicit conditions, they were all willing to agree.
The old campus has been expanded, but it's still not enough.
For example, during the past July college entrance examination season, more than 8,000 freshmen were admitted to Harbin Institute of Technology, a larger number than before.
For a science and engineering university to have so many freshmen every year is truly an exaggeration.
However, considering that Harbin Institute of Technology has all science and engineering majors, it is not surprising.
The Department of Mathematics, the Department of Information Science and Engineering, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering are all prestigious departments at Harbin Institute of Technology, and also the largest departments, with the most students.
Almost every major has at least two classes, and each class has more than forty students.
For example, the mathematics department has nine majors. If each major has two classes and each class has forty students, then there are seven hundred and twenty freshmen in the mathematics department.
Of course, the mathematics department could not actually have that many people, because among the nine majors, some majors would be lucky to have a class of forty students.
Take logic as an example. Very few students apply for it each year; most are assigned to it through a transfer program.
Conversely, the three popular majors—basic mathematics, operations research and cybernetics, and mathematics and applied mathematics—each have at least two classes.
Currently, the Department of Information Science and Engineering has six majors, and there are also many majors offered by other departments such as Aerospace, Missile, Mechanical Engineering, and Automation.
