Chapter 1338 Heading to the Metropolis
Chapter 1338 Heading to the Metropolis
There is no wall that cannot be sealed.
Obtaining the blueprints for a building is relatively easy for the Gotham Police Department. As for the internal personnel layout, while that is more difficult, it is not entirely impossible.
Gotham has no shortage of greedy people; you can get whatever you want by just shoving some money into your pocket.
The old hands at the Gotham Police Department, with the funds approved by the department, managed to get some information from some thugs, including the personnel arrangements at the auto repair shop.
The Gotham Police Department had already traced the location to this illegal car dealership and was planning to take it down, but after discovering that it was Two-Face's territory, the plan had to be shelved.
Unfortunately, even if Commissioner Gordon wanted to do good, he couldn't exert any force because someone was holding him back. In the end, Gordon had no choice but to hand over the job to Batman.
However, Batman has been too busy lately, so he had to postpone this seemingly unimportant matter until today.
This is why, despite having detailed information at the police station, no action has been taken to this day.
Based on Barbara's understanding of Gotham's thugs, nine out of ten of them hadn't received much education, which made them all rather "smart."
These low-level thugs have always only obeyed orders; don't expect them to think outside the box or do anything else.
So even though this information is from a month ago, Barbara doesn't think it will be outdated; those thugs definitely won't change it.
Trusting Barbara, Artemis used her lock-picking equipment to open the iron door of the emergency exit, and then quietly pried open a gap less than the size of a finger with an arrow.
After confirming that she hadn't heard any movement inside, Artemis opened the safety door a crack large enough for her to enter, and then slipped inside.
After successfully entering the repair shop, Artemis activated the night vision function on her mask, instantly making the previously pitch-black environment crystal clear to her.
Just as Barbara had provided, after entering through the security door, Artemis first went into a small cubicle, which was only a few square meters in size and could probably accommodate at most two adult men at the same time.
After Artemis entered through the security door, she was immediately faced with a wooden door with frosted glass. Using thermal imaging, she could even see a figure that appeared to be sitting in the frosted glass.
This person was sitting on the right side of the door. Judging from his posture, he was very relaxed and didn't seem to be on guard at all, even though he was in a very dangerous situation where he could be attacked at any moment.
Artemis slowly approached the wooden door, crouched down under the frosted glass, and pressed her ear against the door, only then did she hear a faint murmur.
"...Damn it...the power...it's still not back..."
Clearly, the person behind the door was complaining about the power outage. Three minutes had passed since the power went out, and the henchmen inside were starting to get impatient. Artemis knew she had to hurry.
So Artemis twisted the handle and shoved the wooden door open, using the darkness to conceal herself as she rushed into the room…
...
Barbara, having finished her work, stood anxiously waiting by the roadside.
That's right, Barbara's job was simply throwing darts. It wasn't that she didn't want to infiltrate with Artemis; it was just that the latter had no intention of taking her along. After all, Barbara hadn't received any systematic training, and Artemis wasn't foolish enough to take an inexperienced newcomer to the battlefield. That could not only kill Barbara but also potentially kill herself.
In real combat, anything can happen. As a completely untrained newcomer, Barbara's ability to react in the moment was far from enough to earn Artemis's trust.
Therefore, rather than carrying a bomb that could explode at any moment, Artemis preferred to fight alone, at most having Barbara provide some attention-grabbing assistance.
Barbara knew that if she acted willfully at this point, it would be pure chaos, the kind of chaos that could cause many deaths, so she chose to obediently listen to her.
"I wonder if Artemis is done yet."
Barbara kicked at the pebbles on the street, muttering to herself.
According to their plan, once Artemis had dealt with the people in the auto repair shop, she would drive out of the shop first, then drive a straight distance until Barbara was next to her before the latter took over driving. After that, the two of them would leave Gotham directly.
Although Artemis couldn't drive, she knew how to use the accelerator and brake, so driving a short distance in a straight line was naturally not difficult for her.
Looking down at the time, it was getting closer and closer to the time they had agreed upon. He wondered if Artemis would be able to complete the mission as planned.
"Crash."
Startled by the sound reaching her ears, Barbara looked up and discovered that the repair shop in the distance had somehow regained its power, the lights were on again, and the roller shutter door next to the main entrance was slowly opening.
Just as the roller shutter was halfway down, Barbara saw a blue sedan drive out and soon pulled up in front of her.
"Get in the car, you drive."
Artemis's voice reached Barbara's ears first, and by the time the latter came to her senses, Artemis had already gotten out of the driver's seat.
"You keep your promise."
Barbara smiled with relief, then climbed into the driver's seat. Just as she closed the door, Artemis got in the passenger seat.
"These thugs are only somewhat brave and aggressive, but after I threw the bat darts, they lost even that commendable courage. Beating a drowning dog is naturally a piece of cake."
Artemis was clearly exhausted. As soon as she sat down in the passenger seat, she stretched and relaxed, revealing her youthful but already well-developed figure.
Unfortunately, Lightning Boy wasn't around, and Barbara didn't have that kind of interest, so she just glanced at him and started driving properly.
"Next, we'll pick up Dick, and then, as planned, cross the Gotham Bridge to Metropolis. And then? Where exactly are we going?"
As an ordinary person, Barbara naturally had to humbly listen to Artemis's advice at this time, and the latter did not disappoint her, giving an answer without hesitation.
"Let's head straight to the Hall of Justice. There are always people on duty there. Once we get there, we'll be safe."
