Chapter 1088
After Yang Le finished speaking, Hal first glanced back at Robin and the others behind him before speaking.
"We need to discuss this before we can make a decision."
Yang Le raised his hand and said, "I understand. So, are you returning to base, or would you like me to arrange a quiet room for you?"
“No need.” Hal said, raising his right arm. A green light shot out from his lamp ring, and after rising to a sufficient height, it burst out, gradually forming a semicircle that trapped him and Robin and the others inside.
"I created a dome that's similar to a one-way mirror effect," Hal said on the Mind Channel.
'We can see outside, but those outside can't see inside. Now you can relax a little.'
Hearing Hal say this, the children who had been standing tall and proud all changed their posture to make themselves as comfortable as possible. Seeing this, Hal thoughtfully produced a few chairs for them to sit and rest.
'Robin, what do you think of that alien who claims to be from the Nakvergi?'
Although the entire meeting was under control, Batman's previous intentions were not unfounded. He did want to train Robin and the others in their ability to deal with aliens, so he also instructed Hal to give the children some pointers during the operation.
Although Hal always teases Batman, he still has the respect that Batman deserves, so he naturally doesn't take the old Batman's words to heart, which makes everyone laugh.
"I wonder if we still know too little about them," Robin shook his head. "With the information we have, it's impossible to determine what the Nakvergi are thinking."
When Hal heard Robin say this, he sighed that the latter was still too young. He was about to say something to remind her when he heard Robin speak again.
'However, based on the current situation, although the Nakvergi's attitude towards Earth is unclear, we can see that they are hostile towards the Reach.'
"I noticed that too," Superboy nodded. "From the beginning of the conversation, the leader's words were implying or explicitly stating that the Zerg of Reach are not good people."
“These two groups are enemies, and Earth is now caught in the middle,” Zatanna continued. “However, the Nakvergi seem intent on rallying us to fight the Reach.”
"As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. If used properly, we might be able to use the Nakvergi to defeat the Reach."
Everyone took turns speaking, and finally Robin ended the conversation. They had basically analyzed the situation fairly well based on the information they had, and even Hal couldn't do anything better for the time being.
"Well said, kids." Hal nodded, and looking at the rising stars before him, he really did feel a bit like an elder.
'As Robin said, instead of fighting two enemies at once, the alliance should unite against one to deal with the other. So the biggest question now is whether the Nakvergi are doing as well as they claim.'
As Hal spoke, he began to look down and pretend to edit a message. After about ten seconds, he sent the pre-prepared signal to Batman, who was in the watchtower at the time.
'I've compiled everything we've seen and heard and sent it to the Watchtower. Now we just wait for the Alliance's brain to make its decision.'
Hal conjured a chair for himself and casually sat down to wait. He had done what he needed to do, and now it was Batman's turn.
...
Batman, who was in the watchtower at the time, received Hal's reply, glanced at it briefly, and then sat down to wait. After a few minutes, Batman calmly opened his communicator and contacted Jaime Reyes.
"Batman?" Jaime clearly hadn't expected to receive a call from Batman; her tone sounded flustered when she answered.
"This is Batman, Blue Beetle. I need you to come to the Watchtower."
Batman's cold words were like a bucket of cold water poured on Jaime, who quickly calmed down and responded.
"Yes, I'll be there soon."
After receiving a reply, Batman opened the portal from the Young Justice League base to the Watchtower, and Jaime, dressed in blue beetles, soon appeared in the Watchtower lobby.
But Batman was already there waiting for him.
"You called me Batman? Is there some mission you're on?"
Batman looked at the boy, who barely reached his chest, and said in a softer tone, "I called you here because there's something I need your opinion on."
Batman then told Jaime everything about the Nakvergeians and how to dismantle the scarabs.
"I called you here to ask if you are willing to undergo surgery by the Nakvergi to remove the blue beetle from your back."
After saying this, Batman stood still, staring at Jaime with eyes devoid of any emotion, while the latter was lost in thought.
In fact, when Haimei was first parasitized by the blue beetle, all he could think about was how to get rid of this nuisance. But after he became a hero a few times thanks to the blue beetle, this thought gradually faded away.
But ever since Jaime heard about the relationship between the Scarabs and the Reach from Green Lantern John, this idea that Jaime had put aside has been picked up again.
Jaime was terrified that he would become a weapon without his own thoughts and be replaced, so he hadn't gone on many missions since the Reach insectoids landed on Earth.
However, Haimei recently discovered that after so much time, the Zerg of the Reach have not had any interaction with him at all, as if they had not noticed him at all.
He also asked his blue beetle, which was quite honest and told him the truth.
It turns out that during the long years after crashing to Earth, the Blue Beetle itself suffered some damage, which caused it to lose contact with the Reach Zerg.
The current situation with the Blue Beetle is that the Zerg of the Reach cannot control it remotely, and the two sides are completely disconnected. The Blue Beetle currently has no idea how to fix this.
This gave Haimei a sense of complacency, wondering if he wouldn't need to remove the Blue Beetle as long as he didn't come into contact with the Reach Zerg.
It's not fair to blame Haimei for being selfish. He was just a child who gained immense power at an inappropriate age. It's already good enough that he didn't use this power for evil. It's understandable that he wants to retain his power now.
Jaime wanted to refuse Batman's offer, but he didn't know how to say it, because the latter was the Night Knight who could strike fear into the hearts of Gotham's criminals, and he was afraid of what the other man might do to him if he refused.
