Chapter 1059 The Endangered Species Collector
Chapter 1059 The Endangered Species Collector
The shards of metal clattered and crackled as they hit him. As the dust settled, Garfield tried to peek out to see what was happening, but a blinding red light forced him to squint.
With his vision obstructed, Garfield was unsure whether he would be attacked again, so he could only continue to huddle together.
Sure enough, Garfield immediately felt a pulling sensation, but the sensation came and went quickly, lasting only two or three seconds before disappearing.
"W-how is it, Garfield?"
Mary was then held in Garfield's arms, who had transformed into a thunderbolt. To ensure the defensive capabilities, Garfield left no gaps, so Mary could not see anything in the pitch-black darkness.
However, Thunderclap, in its defensive stance, had no way of knowing what was happening outside, so it didn't know what was going on when its mother asked.
However, seeing that nothing had happened for a while, Garfield relaxed his defenses, only to be shocked by what he saw.
They were not in their own apartment at the moment, but in a completely unfamiliar place.
The first thing you see is a bed, and not far from the bed are furniture such as tables and chairs. The layout is similar to that of a typical American home. The only strange thing is that this carefully arranged 'room' has no walls.
It looked like a scene set up at an exhibition. Beyond these decorations was a very spacious room. Because the only light source was overhead, the exact size of the room could not be measured.
Finding no threat, Garfield released Mary from his arms, who looked terrified upon seeing what was before her.
"Where...where am I?"
Mary tried to remain calm in front of her child, but what she was seeing was something that an ordinary woman like her could not immediately accept.
Garfield was far from as calm as he appeared. Although he had handled three or four superhuman-related cases since joining the Young Justice League, he had never handled any mission on his own.
Even Garfield would be flustered if he suddenly encountered something that defied common sense, but he was a very independent and strong child.
Garfield knew he absolutely couldn't show any panic right now; he had to be his mother's pillar of support.
"Mom, you stay here, I'll look around."
Garfield gave Mary a few instructions, and then, without reverting to his original form, he began to grope his way into the dark space of the room.
"Boom!"
However, Garfield had only taken a couple of steps when he bumped into an invisible wall. Fortunately, Thunderclap had thick skin and a soft yet resilient body, so he was not injured by the collision.
Garfield rubbed the spot where he had bumped into something and reached out to touch it. As soon as his hand reached out, he touched something. After tapping it a few times, Garfield realized that they were covered by a glass-like substance.
Garfield withdrew his hand, and after a brief moment of gathering his strength, he punched the shield with a powerful punch, but received nothing in return except for a muffled thud.
Yang Le had told him that the Pelarot people, the race of Thunderclap, were not known for their offensive prowess, but their rolling muscles were no mere decoration; in terms of sheer strength, Thunderclap was definitely not weak.
His fist, which he had just thrown, could easily shatter a concrete wall, yet this barrier remained completely unaffected, demonstrating its incredible sturdiness. Just as Garfield retracted his fist, contemplating transforming into another form to deal with the barrier, the previously dimly lit room suddenly illuminated.
Garfield immediately rolled back to Mary's side after noticing something was wrong, and then held her in his arms. The sudden, blinding light made him lose his vision for a moment, and it took him a while to recover.
Once he could see clearly, Garfield discovered that outside the enclosure that was covering him and his child, there was a creature about half the height of a person floating.
The creature looked very strange. It was fat and had no lower body. It only had two short, thick hands hidden in its cloak. It had no hair on its head, and its mouth and nose were not visible. If it weren't for its light blue eyes, Garfield probably wouldn't have been able to tell where the creature's face was.
"Hello, superhuman from Earth."
The fleshy mass in front of him spoke, and Garfield then saw a mouth without any wrinkles or lips, which looked like a hole.
"Who are you? Why are you arresting me and my mother?"
Seeing that the other party could communicate, Garfield asked sternly. Combined with Thunderclap's tall and muscular body, it was quite intimidating. However, the fleshy ball he threatened did not change its expression.
"To be honest, my only target is you. Capturing your mother was purely accidental. Don't worry, I'll tell you what happened right away."
Meatball was very polite and slowly explained the whole story.
"You can call me the King of Canned Food. I'm ashamed to say, I thought you'd heard my story from Superman."
Garfield's eyes darted around. Perhaps, just as this self-proclaimed King of Canned Food said, Superman had uploaded his story to the Justice League's database.
However, Garfield had only been a member of the Young Justice League for about three months and was still just a prospective member. His daily training already took up most of his time, so he didn't have any free time to look up any information.
But that's alright, because the King of Canned Food did indeed give a detailed introduction of himself.
"I am a renowned collector in the universe, specializing in collecting endangered species. Several years ago, I set my sights on the last Kryptonian in the universe, which is also known as Superman on Earth."
"It's just a pity that Superman's strength is indeed not to be underestimated. In addition, the villain I hired betrayed me. The two of them joined forces to make me lose all my collection and threw me into space."
At this point, Canned Food King waved his short hand reluctantly, clearly very agitated.
"Fortunately, I was carrying a communication device with me, which is why I was rescued. However, compared to the physical injuries, the loss of those collections is what pains me more."
"Over the years, I have regrouped and finally built the collection ship again, giving me the capital to collect items once more. And you, a superhuman from Earth, are one of the many items I have selected."
The canned food king pressed himself against the can, his small, light blue eyes revealing an indescribable fascination.
"A superhuman who can transform into any living being—this is simply the most perfect collectible! You are about to become my most treasured possession!"
