Chapter 6 Mission: 02-1 Parasite

"Your Holiness the Pope!"

In the Round Table Hall of the Demon Sword Cult's headquarters, Agnus walked out of the shadows angrily and slammed the table: "Kredo is a traitor!"

Not far behind him, Gloria followed with a cat-like walk.

Seated at the round table was the Grand Master of the Knights, Credo, a solemn man with a goatee. He frowned slightly, his voice calm as if suppressing something. "Be mindful of your behavior, Agnes! This is in the presence of His Majesty."

"You knew it from the beginning, didn't you?" Agnes' tone became even more agitated. "Your so-called sister is an evil, evil, evil monster!"

"What did you say?!" In an instant, Credo also slammed the table and stood up, his eyes full of anger.

The Pope finally spoke up to stop the two of them. "Alright, both of you calm down. Gloria, do you know something?"

Gloria shrugged when she was called and moved closer to the round table.

"I only saw that Agnus's laboratory was messed up by someone unknown," she replied with a smile. "I hope this won't affect our great goal."

The old pope, wearing a crown, nodded thoughtfully and said, "Of course. I won't let your hard work go to waste."

He turned his head and looked at the two people who stood up: "Agnas."

"Yes, yes, Your Majesty."

The stuttering black researcher suppressed his anger and took a deep breath before speaking, "That stinky, smelly girl named Nero has demonic power. A lot of very strong demonic power. She smashed my lab and absorbed the Yama Blade!"

Instantly, Credo's brows knitted together, his gaze meeting Agnus's, sparks seemingly igniting in the air.

The Pope looked at Credo and asked, "Nero?"

"My sister, Your Majesty," Credo replied, bowing. "One of the singers who will sing at the Demon Sword Festival."

"Ah, the child you recommended." The Pope raised his hand and waved, motioning Credo to stand. "So, you've never discovered this kind of power in her?"

"Yes, Your Majesty."

"You, you're lying!" Agnes shouted.

"Agnas." The Pope cast a look over. Agnas blinked in surprise, put away his anger, and bowed.

"Kredo."

"Your Majesty, please give me your instructions."

"I remember you applied for a burial ceremony for her."

"……Yes."

"What's the reason?"

"My sister was attacked by a demon and was seriously injured."

The Pope sighed softly and looked at Credo with pity: "Then you should accept this reality."

Suddenly, the blood drained from Credo's face, leaving it pale. "You, you mean—"

The Pope nodded and waved his hand. "This matter should be handled by the Knights, but I thought... you might wish to do it yourself."

Credo bowed his head, remained silent for a moment, and then saluted: "Your will."

Then he gripped the power sword at his waist, turned and walked out of the hall.

The hall echoed with the sound of Credo's footsteps. As the sound faded away, the Pope turned to look at Agnes and spoke again:
"You said she absorbed the Yama Blade?"

"Yes, that's right, Your Majesty."

Agnes came to the Pope in a fawning manner, bowed, and rubbed his hands: "It's obviously the Yama Blade..."

He was halfway through his words when he suddenly looked up at Gloria.

"It seems I am not suited to listen?" She smiled and turned to leave the hall. The Pope stopped her: "No need. Agnes, continue."

"Yes. You know, I've spent years studying this knife, but it never responded, and now—"

"what--"

The Pope smiled. He clasped his hands on the table, leaned forward, and rested his chin on the back of his hands. "So, she is very special."

"As you said."

The Pope nodded and changed the subject: "Do you think Credo will capture her?"

Agnus responded with an evil smile: "Your Majesty, he has more than one sister."

"Um……"

"I'll go help Credo."

Gloria's words attracted the attention of the Pope and Agnes. They saw that Gloria had stood up and looked ready to take action.

She twirled the throwing knife in her hand and said with a smile, "He's already lost a sister. I think... he'll make the right decision."

"That's right. We have to protect the remaining one." The Pope smiled kindly and turned his gaze to Agnes: "Can I ask you for a favor?"

"As you wish."

The dark-skinned burly man bowed deeply, and the two of them retreated into the darkness outside the hall.

But that darkness was far less profound than the color in the Pope's heart.

Nero emerged from the deep, dark cave and looked out into the distance. The sun had already risen over the forest. A thin mist enveloped the cliffs below, shrouding the emerald green Mitis Forest in a fairyland.

It seemed that Jillie occasionally brought the children from the orphanage to play in this forest—but not in this area, but in the eastern forest near the headquarters of the Devil Sword Cult. Conversely, the western forest must have more demons than the eastern one, and far more.

Therefore, the place below is not a fairyland, but a devilish place.

Nero touched her heart. The Yama Blade, dormant within it in the form of magical energy, remained unresponsive. So she sighed, pulled one of her two pistols from her side, and walked forward along the path beside the cliff.

She had counted them in the cave and found that the two guns used the same specification of ammunition, with two rounds in the magazine, fourteen rounds in the clip, and five spare magazines, for a total of fifty-one rounds. Once these fifty-one rounds were used up, she would have no other weapons.

Save if you can.

Because this forest is deeply affected by the power of the devil, and the source is the gate to the devil's world deep in the forest.

The forest belongs to someone.

At the end of the mountain road, Nero cautiously stepped into the forest and approached an abandoned church hidden in the shade.

Beneath walls, on treetops, in rock crevices—everywhere lie giant seeds imbued with demonic power. These are the remains of the lord hidden within the forest.

So Nero didn't touch them, but pushed the door open and entered the courtyard in front of her that was connected to the mountain wall. Then she walked through the courtyard covered with vines, weeds and moss, and walked into the church that was connected to the skybridge on the back of the mountain.

The heavy iron door was pushed open with a piercing noise, and dust fell from the door frame. Nero, a dusty-looking man, brushed the dust from his hair and looked up to see several demons standing up in the empty church.

It was a sinister figure made of scraps of cloth—a scarecrow. This kind of demon was the most common in Fortuna.

But since they appeared in this forest, these scarecrows must not be as simple as they seem.

Green vines covered in disgusting slime pierced the scarecrow's body, enveloping it. These wriggling vines robbed the weak demon of its ability to move, replacing it with their own.

In a moment, bright red ogre flowers bloomed above the scarecrows' heads.

The parasitic flower Chimera, a follower of the forest lord.

Nero raised his gun and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
