The Witcher: Make Witcher Great Again

Chapter 358 The Second Mutation

Chapter 358 Secondary Mutation (Part 1)

Yennefer, who had previously maintained an indifferent expression, suddenly changed her demeanor.

"Geralt, what's wrong with you?"

“I’m not crazy, Yennefer,” Geralt said, looking into Yennefer’s eyes. “If Lady Tessaia and you need a volunteer, there’s no doubt I’m more suitable than them.”

Yennefer retorted without hesitation, "No, you're not suitable!"

"leaf……"

"Shut your mouth, I don't want to hear it!"

The air felt somewhat oppressive.

“Brother, um…” Lambert glanced at Yennefer, whose face was frighteningly gloomy, then quickly looked away as if afraid of burning his eyes. “Actually, you don’t need to compete with us for this. Eskal and I are enough.”

“That’s right, White Wolf.”

Eskal unusually agreed with Lambert: "The three of us are all from the Wolf School. It doesn't matter who comes, me, Lambert, or you. There's no difference."

Since Yennefer moved in, she's caused them quite a bit of trouble.

Unlike her predecessor, the Dean, Tisaya maintained her aristocratic elegance, so even though Eskar and Lambert were serving her, she was willing and happy to do so.

But Yennefer treated others like nobles treated their servants, never giving them a kind look and seemingly taking it all for granted.

Lambert and Escal went to Geralt many times because of this, only to find that Geralt was even less able to hold his head high in front of Yennefer.

Their status isn't even as high as theirs.

However, the two of them also realized that although Yennefer was neither gentle nor elegant, she truly loved Geralt.

Therefore, for the sake of their good brother's happiness, the two endured it.

But now, what if the two of them cause Geralt any harm or injury...

The two couldn't imagine how they would continue to live in Kaer Mohen.

This sorceress might transform into a Tyrannosaurus Rex at any moment.

Yennefer stared into Geralt's cat eyes without saying a word.

The atmosphere was silent and stiff.

Even Serret, Oakes, and George dared not speak.

The silence was broken only when Geralt spoke up himself.

Geralt, who usually yields to Yennefer, surprisingly contradicts her this time.

"Ye, do you know what the most basic common sense of our Witcher's Trial of the Grass is?"

"The better the mutation inducer used, the longer the duration of tolerance to mutation, the better the ability to enhance mutation."

“Vesemir once said that I had shown extraordinary endurance in the Trial of the Grass, so I am the strongest among us.”

"Therefore, I should be the one to try these two mutations first."

Yennefer was trembling with anger.

Geralt expected her to fly into a rage and hurl insults.

Just like she used to be.

But in the end, she didn't say anything, she just left angrily.

"Geralt, you..."

White Wolf waved his hand, stopping Eskar from speaking: "There's no need to say anything. I've made my decision. Lynn has his responsibilities, and I have mine. This is my responsibility."

"OK then."

Lambert sighed.

The other witchers said nothing more.

Geralt had thought he would have to wait a few days to see Yennefer again, but to his surprise, in the afternoon, Tessaia summoned him to the underground laboratory in the castle. By the light of the candles scattered throughout, Geralt noticed that in the center of the laboratory, there were many devices whose purpose he could not figure out. These devices were all connected by pipes, and finally converged on a humanoid device in the very center that looked like the Iron Maiden.

"So, this is what's needed for the secondary mutation? Will I turn into a vampire after I come out of there?"

Tisaya didn't even glance at him; she was busy checking the equipment and making final confirmations.

"Please wait until you're finished before giving your remarks. For now, let's wait... Oh, she's finally here."

Yennefer had a blank face, revealing no emotion whatsoever.

She went into the lab and handed Geralt a large glass of liquid that looked like it couldn't be drunk.

"Drink it."

Geralt knew he couldn't joke around like he had with Tessaia earlier, so he took the drink without saying a word.

I almost threw up.

My stomach churned as if in protest.

Geralt mustered all his willpower to avoid vomiting the gushing liquid onto the sorceress in front of him: "Ye, what is this?"

"Herbal juice that can minimize your body's rejection reaction."

"Can't this flavor be changed?"

“Of course, this stuff is only slightly worse than bitter medicine, but I spent a whole afternoon adjusting it to this consistency.” Yennefer put her hands on her hips, and a smile seemed to finally appear on her face, but it vanished in the blink of an eye.

Geralt even began to doubt that he might have just been hallucinating.

"You wanted to be a hero, didn't you? You wanted to take responsibility, didn't you? Well, this is the price you paid."

“Let me make this clear beforehand, you’d better not waste my efforts, and don’t throw them at me… otherwise,” a cold glint flashed in Yennefer’s violet eyes, “you know the consequences.”

Geralt swallowed hard.

He looked down at the herbal juice in his hand.

Then, with a death wish, he closed his eyes and swallowed it down in one gulp.

Then he lost consciousness.

……

When he woke up again, Yennefer, who had been by his bedside, told him that he had been unconscious for two whole days.

If Yennefer and Tessaia hadn't constantly used magic to monitor Geralt's body and confirm that there were no abnormal reactions, Yennefer would have almost thought she was going to lose him.

Geralt's first thought upon waking was that he was very hungry.

When Yennefer brought him food, he ate half again as much as usual before he felt full.

After resting for another half hour, he and Yennefer went to the open space of the training ground.

Tisaya and the other witchers also arrived at the training ground.

Originally, Tessaia hoped that Geralt could rest for a couple more days to stabilize his condition.

But Geralt felt full of energy and in better condition than ever before.

So Tissaya stopped trying to stop her.

She also wanted to see what kind of changes Geralt would experience after all the work she and Yennefer had put into improving the secondary mutation.

First, there is a test of physical fitness.

Escal handed Geralt the half-sword he usually used.

Geralt picked it up and weighed it in his hand, only to find it was rather light.

Fortunately, when Lynn returned to Kael'thas for the winter last time, he prepared all sorts of weapons in the armory in advance, considering that the Witcher School would recruit a large number of students in the future.

So Escal went and got Geralt a two-handed sword again.
