Chapter 5: Golden Tree Seed
Chapter 5: Golden Tree Seed
After bidding farewell to Thorin and the four dwarves, Tanes set out again on his journey to Minhirias.
Although he encountered dozens of attacks from Orcs on the road this time, he did not pursue the fleeing Orcs as he had done before, but continued on his way.
And these scattered Orcs who managed to escape also spread the story of Tanes' deeds.
At least among the Orcs they knew that on the way to Minthriath there was a Human knight in armour like that of the White Wolf, and mounted on a steed that seemed to harness the wind, and with ease wielding a greatsword of immense proportions he could tear the Orcs and their wargs apart.
The group of a dozen orcs and wargs had no chance of fighting back, and if more people attacked the human knight, the enemy would start to use witchcraft to slaughter them.
In short, Tanes's reputation among Orcs and Wargs became increasingly feared, so much so that even caravans of Men who had encountered and captured Orcs would hear a rumor or two about him from their mouths.
If Tanis knew that he had frightened these orcs and wargs, he would only find it funny and speechless.
After all, it was these orcs and wargs who attacked Tanis upon seeing him, and then ran away when they couldn't defeat him, and then spread rumors about themselves as so terrible. This really didn't make sense.
But the one or two rumours about Tanes which the Orcs had heard did not cause much excitement in the kingdom of men, who regarded it as the mere fact that a brave Dúnedain ranger had appeared on Minchirias' side.
All this had nothing to do with Tanes. Half a month after bidding farewell to the dwarves, he finally set foot on the land of Minchirias.
Because when he crossed the Brandywine River and stepped onto the moist soil on the other side of the river, Tanes felt the activity of the Elden Ring in his body.
It seemed as if someone was telling him that this was the place where he would rebuild the border of his hometown.
"—!"
Torrett snorted in a very human way, because he also felt the joy from the heart of his master.
Tanes gently stroked Torret's horseback. He suppressed his inner joy and said, "Keep moving forward, Torret. This is not the place to rebuild our homeland yet. We still need to learn more about this land."
According to the map Bilbo gave him, the Brandywine River was the edge of Minsilias. Obviously, rebuilding the border on the edge was not a good choice.
At least for now.
Tanes first walked along the Brandywine River for a day's journey, and then began to walk eastward, towards the center of Minchirias.
Minchirias was just as the dwarves we had met before had said, it was indeed deserted, with only the green of nature covering up the breath of human life in the previous era over time.
After two days of walking, Tanes stopped at a rocky ruin.
It is obvious that there was once a glorious city here, but now the buildings have collapsed and are covered with dark green vines, and from time to time the roars of wild beasts can be heard from inside.
However, Tanes thought this was a good place, because since it was once chosen as the location for building a city, the surrounding geographical environment must be fine.
He rode Torret quickly around the city ruins. Although it took him nearly half a day and it was dusk, it also allowed Tanes to figure out the surrounding terrain.
Beyond the east side of the ruins ran a small river, which he presumed to be a branch of the Brandywine River.
The overall terrain around the city ruins is relatively flat, and you can still see roads built by humans in the past, but they are now almost covered with grass.
But this shows that there are no major problems with the traffic. By repairing and patching up the traces of the previous road, a new road will be created.
So Tanis thought this place was good, so he patted Torret's horse and walked into the ruins. Due to the warnings of Thorin and other dwarves, Tanis was very cautious at first, thinking that there might be Orcs or human thieves hiding in the ruins of such a huge city.
But to his surprise, apart from the occasional wild wolves, there were no other threatening creatures in the city ruins.
When the wild wolves encountered Tanes, the leader smelled the bloody scent on the other side provided by the friendship between the orcs and the wargs, bared his teeth, made a few low threats, and led the tribe to escape from Tanes.
Tanes shrugged as he watched the wolves running away with their tails between their legs. Since they didn't attack him, he had no interest in chasing them.
Because he noticed that these wild wolves were not of the same species as the wargs that attacked him before, otherwise Tanes would have to chase them and let them know what it meant to be a faded one. Even a dog would be slapped when passing by.
Then he came to the very center of the ruins of the city. No one knew what had been standing there before, but it had been destroyed, leaving only a shallow pit overgrown with weeds.
This shallow pit actually suited his needs very well, because Tanes planned to plant the golden tree in this location.
Tanes dismounted, stroked Torret's forehead, and came to the shallow pit. A golden light emerged from his chest, illuminating the surrounding environment.
The Elden Ring appeared before Tanes' eyes, immersing his spirit and thoughts in it.
Suddenly, images of buildings emerged one after another in his mind, including those in Stonewell City, Kalia Academy, and even the Volcano Residence. At the same time, under each building were the names of the enemies he had encountered in these places, including the Faded Ones and even the Demigods he had defeated.
But these images were temporarily dark, and when Tanes's spirit touched them, there was no reaction.
But a thought arose from the bottom of his heart, making Tanes realize that he must plant the golden tree first before touching these images will have a relevant reaction.
His thoughts turned again, and the image in his mind turned into a golden tree seed, which was the seed of the golden tree.
Tanes carefully discovered that this golden tree seed was different from the seeds he picked up next to the small phantom golden trees at the border.
If the latter is the slightly dim seed sown by life's last dying struggle, then the former is obviously a seed that is full of vitality, health and brightness.
Tanes touched the golden seed with his spirit, and the next moment his thoughts returned to reality, with the golden tree seed in his hand.
He subconsciously shifted his gaze towards the Elden Ring, only to see the golden ring float to the center of the shallow pit, and the tree seed in his hand also floated over, and finally landed lightly on the soil of the shallow pit.
At this moment, the golden tree seeds seemed to have lost their substance. They went directly into the soil, quickly began to absorb nutrients, and took root and sprouted.
Soon, a sprout emitting golden light broke out of the soil and trembled slightly towards Tanes, as if waving to him with joy.
The next moment, the Elden Ring, which also emitted golden light, floated back to Tanes. After circling once, it returned to the sky above the golden sprout and drilled in.
The golden buds grew at a speed visible to the naked eye, taking the initial shape of a tree, but stopped growing when they reached about the level of Tanes' knees.
At this time, Tanes naturally understood that he should find a way to carefully nurture the growth of this golden sapling, because it carried his hope of rebuilding the border area.
I can understand the author who was sent home by the police for cosplaying on Halloween (lying peacefully).
