Chapter 4 Thorin Oakenshield

The Orcs' reaction was not as quick as the giant wolves they rode, but the giant wolves only heard the sound of the thunder pot being thrown by Tanes and did not realize what this thing was.

After all, at this time, a certain industrial giant had not yet started the "Industrial Revolution", and the orcs and giant wolves were still unclear about the concept of "explosion".

What's more, the two lightning pots did not hit Captain Oak directly, but fell about one meter in front of him.

As for the giant wolf that reacted, it even wanted to mock the person who threw the thing for his poor aim, so it did not move its body away.

Captain Oak on its back didn't notice something was hitting him until the thunder kettle hit the ground with a sound.

But when Captain Oak turned his head to look over, what he saw was a scene where golden lightning couldn't wait to tear the cracked pot body that bound them apart and wreak havoc outwards.

"Fuck-"

The sounds of two flashes of lightning rang out one after another.

The golden lightning, like a poisonous snake aiming at its prey, instantly wrapped around the orcs and giant wolves that did not dodge around it, smashing their bodies into pieces and scattering them on the ground with a disgusting burnt smell.

Just these two thunder pots killed five orcs including the captain of the orcs and three giant wolves.

Because this Orc captain was also one of the ones who were drawing their bows and arrows towards the dwarves in the back, and this group of Orcs shooting arrows were standing relatively concentrated, as a result, they were directly destroyed by Tanes' two thunder pots.

In fact, the number of casualties caused by the Thunder Kettle also surprised Tanes himself a little, because he never thought that there would be an enemy who would not dodge or even care when seeing the Thunder Kettle thrown at his face.

It's really breathtaking.

Tanes sighed inwardly, then focused his attention on the remaining orcs and giant wolves.

After the short-bearded dwarf and the thunder pot he had thrown out, there were only three orcs and three giant wolves left.

The other orcs and giant wolves who were not at the center of the thunder kettle's power were frightened by the sudden and tragic death of their captain and fell into panic.

They looked left and right, but Tanes was well hidden.

The three giant wolves twitched their noses, trying to use their sense of smell to detect the scent of the strange attackers in the air.

However, the burnt smell from the corpses of their companions who were electrocuted by the thunder kettle effectively masked the smell of Tanes, and the three giant wolves could only smell the smell emanating from the corpse fragments.

Not to mention that the two dwarves in front of them had already realized that someone was helping them. They did not choose to stand by and watch, but instead roared angrily and charged at the remaining orcs.

Just now, you had several times more people than me, so I played more conservatively.

Now that you only have so few people left, how can we dwarves hide behind?

The short-bearded dwarf in the lead took the lead, waving the battle axe in his hand as if it were flying.

Beheading, decapitation, chopping off waists, the panicked orcs and giant wolves were quickly killed by him alone, three enemies cleanly and neatly.

Tanes looked at the dwarf a few more times, but his steps were not slow.

He strode out from a big tree behind the remaining three enemies, beheaded an orc with the King's Army in his hand, and used the brass shield to block the giant wolf's bite, and the other party's stinking breath hit him in the face.

Then the giant wolf that attacked Tanes let out a mournful howl, and its dirty body collapsed helplessly.

Tanes pulled the King's Sword out of the giant wolf's neck and dropped the blood on the sword onto the ground.

At the same time, the last giant wolf's head was smashed by the warhammer with the cooperation of the dwarf and his companions.

"..."

The short-bearded dwarf cursed at the giant wolf's corpse in a language that Tanes could not understand.

Then he raised his head and bowed slightly to Tanes, thanking him solemnly: "Thank you for your help, brave human friend. These damned Orcs have been moving more and more widely recently, and there are traces of them even here."

Now he understood. Tanes was just worried that he might not understand what the other person was saying.

He sheathed his sword and slung his brass shield across his back. As he walked toward the wounded dwarf, he replied, "It's a small favor, but I'm not ready to thank you yet. Let me see how your companion is injured."

The short-bearded dwarf trotted back to his three companions lying on the ground. The expressions on their faces were anxious at first, then slightly relaxed, but frowned again.

Tanes came up at this time and saw that the three dwarves who had been wounded by the orcs were not fatally wounded.

"If it weren't for you, I'm afraid my compatriots would have been gone." The short-bearded dwarf said with relief as he and another dwarf who was still able to move helped his companion treat his wounds.

The three dwarves were all wounded by arrows. It was not difficult for Tanis to guess that these dwarves were ambushed by Orcs in the woods. The first dwarf was knocked down by a hidden arrow, and the others gathered together to protect him.

"Oh, be gentle."

After the short-bearded dwarf helped the last dwarf pull out the arrow that had lodged itself in his thigh, the dwarf, like his other two companions, let out a slight cry of pain.

But the short-bearded dwarf frowned as he looked at the wounds of the other orcs, which were constantly bleeding black blood. "The arrows of these orcs are all coated with poison. Damn it, we didn't bring any herbs this time. We must send them back to the Blue Mountains quickly, otherwise the poison will slowly erode their lives."

Tanes came over at this time, took a quick look at the injuries of the three dwarves, and thought: "Maybe I have some emergency solutions." The short-bearded dwarf looked at the human who hid his face under the helmet in surprise.

From his perspective, the other party just made a grabbing motion towards the air, and a golden stone emitting a gentle light inexplicably appeared in his hand.

[Heat Stone], this is the item that Tanes took out.

You can consume a little of your concentration, that is, magic power, to activate the two-finger prayer in the warm stone, making it emit warmth like the warm sun, slowly healing the people around the warm stone.

Tanes threw the warm stones next to the three injured dwarves. After feeling the magic power in his body reduced a little, the stones on the ground emitted a warmth that made people feel from the heart.

The dwarves, whose faces had turned extremely pale due to poisoning, began to emit a faint golden light after being wrapped in warmth, which was exactly the same as the light emitted by the warm stone.

The short-bearded dwarf's lips moved slightly, and his eyes were shining with obsession.

He asked excitedly, "What kind of ore is this? I have never seen such a stone in Middle-earth. Where did you find it?"

Eh? This stone isn't very common, but it's not rare enough to warrant that expression.

Tanes looked at the short-bearded dwarf in confusion, but his hands did not stop moving.

He took out three green pills from his backpack. These were the [Poison Moss Medicine] that Tanes often took after being poisoned at the border. It was made from a mixture of Hepa grass, cave moss, and large dragonfly heads that were ubiquitous at the border. It had an excellent detoxifying effect on most toxins.

But it has no effect on a poison as severe as Scarlet Corruption.

Tanes looked at the three wounded and poisoned dwarves and was about to give them the three poisoned mosses in his hand, but he found that the three dwarves were struggling to sit up from the ground and sat around the warm stone with the short-bearded dwarf and another uninjured dwarf.

No, there's really nothing nice about this broken stone.

Tanes complained silently in his heart, then coughed lightly: "Don't look at it, take the antidote first."

The short-bearded dwarf reacted immediately, stepped forward, took the poisoned moss from Tanes's hand, and handed it to the wounded dwarves one by one.

"This tastes a bit like the moss in the cave mixed with some green grass, and also has the fishy smell of insects..." One of the dwarves made a distorted evaluation after swallowing the poisonous moss medicine.

The short-bearded dwarf glanced at the man's wound, which was beginning to bleed bright red blood, and said, "At least it worked. The poison has been removed. Wait...your wound?"

The dwarf heard the short-bearded dwarf's tone and looked over in panic, exclaiming, "What happened to the wound on my leg? Damn it, am I dazzled? How did it heal so quickly?"

The healing effect of the hot stone shouldn't be that fast. It took almost a minute for this minor injury to start healing.

Tanes was a little confused about what the dwarves were surprised about. He could only assume that they were surprised because they had never seen a warm stone.

Under the dwarves' gaze, the warm stone thrown on the ground by Tanes began to dim and eventually turned into an ordinary white stone.

"The prayer power in the stone has been used up. How do you three feel physically?" Tanes saw what the dwarves wanted to ask and spoke first.

The dwarves stretched their bodies, and the one who had cried out in pain said, "I feel much better. These things of yours are truly amazing. I never knew there were wizards who liked to wear armor. Thank you so much for your help. Are you going to the Blue Mountains? We're going too, so why not come back together so we can thank you properly."

They seem to think I am a wizard of this world, just like Bilbo did, Tanis thought.

But he didn't deny it. Instead, he responded, "The place I'm going to is called Minchirias, not the Blue Mountains. Unfortunately, our destinations are different."

The short-bearded dwarf gave a puzzled look. "Minhirias, why did you go to that wild jungle destroyed by war?"

Then he realized something, straightened his somewhat luxurious black clothes, and said, "I forgot to tell my name to the benefactor who saved us. It is an honor to meet you, wizard. My name is Thorin Oakenshield, thank you again for saving us."

He held out his hand, and Tanis took it and shook it. "I am the Faded One, or Tanis, as one of my hobbit friends called me."

Thorin nodded, withdrew his hand, and glanced at the stone on the ground. "You wizards do have a lot of strange things on you. I've seen many glowing stones, but this is the first time I've seen a stone that can heal wounds while glowing."

Tanes smiled and asked Thorin, "Actually, I'm a little lost. I set out from Hobbiton in the Shire and was attacked by these creatures. While chasing them, I deviated from my original route, so now I don't know where I am. Do you know where this is?"

Thorin glanced at Tanes thoughtfully, then said, "You just said you were going to Minchirias. Your route is indeed a bit far. We're almost at the Blue Mountains here. If you want to continue to Minchirias, you need to go this way, cross the Brandywine River, and you will reach Minchirias."

A dwarf behind Thorin couldn't help but advise, "Ever since the remaining people of Cardolan were struck by plague and then devastated by floods, Minthriath has become a desolate forest, with no signs of human activity. The only creatures that roam that land now are evil creatures like orcs and wargs, or bandits and robbers fleeing capture. Master Wizard, even with your vast sorcery skills, it's unsafe to go there alone."

Tanes said to the dwarf, "Thank you for explaining the situation in Minhirias to me, but I do have a mission that I must go there on."

Thorin raised his hand to stop the dwarf behind him from continuing to dissuade him: "Wizards are always loyal to their mission. Once they make a decision, no matter what you say, they will still go."

Then Thorin took off the battle axe from his waist, handed it to Tanes and said, "If you need to forge anything, you can find me in the Blue Mountains with this battle axe. I will help you to the best of my ability."

The battle axe, which the dwarves could lift with one hand, looked even shorter in Tanes's hand, but the inscription engraved on the axe showed its weight and status.

"I wish you a safe journey." Tanes took the battle axe and gave a gentle blessing.

Then Thorin took the other four dwarves and said goodbye to Tanes.

And Tanes, under the correct guidance of Thorin and others, embarked on the journey to Minsilias again.
