Chapter 171 Minas Tirith
When the dawn finally pierced the deep shadows of Mordor in the east, Minas Tirith, the white city of Gondor, stood majestically in Middle-earth, like a giant awakening from its slumber.

This marvel, meticulously carved from pure white marble and solid rock, has seven layers of walls that wind up the mountain, one after another, like a solidified white wave on the earth being pushed by an invisible giant hand, surging straight towards the unattainable heavens.

Each city wall is so tall it takes your breath away, its surface as smooth as a mirror. In the rising sun, it reflects a soft luster like mother-of-pearl, or as if covered with a layer of sacred snow that has never melted for thousands of years, pure and awe-inspiring.

Between the city gates, a wide stone path winds upwards like a giant python. The stone surface has been polished smooth as a mirror by the footsteps of countless generations, reflecting the majestic towers and sturdy ramparts on both sides.

At the highest point of Minas Tirith, if you look out of the city, you can see the vast Palano plains stretching out before you, with the Anduin River winding like a silver ribbon in the distance, nourishing the fertile green land.

However, this magnificent vitality was mercilessly swallowed up by the filthy, surging darkness of the East, and Mordor spread across the edge of the land like a festering wound in Middle-earth.

Meanwhile, three figures were galloping from Mordor toward Minas Tirith.

"who!"

The guards on the first city wall had already noticed Tanes and his two companions coming from Mordor. The officer who had just taken over the duty personally rode up to the city gate with a squad of Gondorian guards, and stood guard over the three riders, asking them in a loud and stern voice.

Meanwhile, the guards behind the officer dispersed to protect the pedestrians entering and leaving Minas Tirith in the early morning.

Before Tanes could respond, Dehel raised the token given to him by his father, Talion, and loudly replied, "I am Dehel, a ranger from the Blackgate, son of Talion! The two beside me are the Lord of the Golden Tree and his confidants. We have important intelligence to report to His Highness the Regent of Gondor!"

Just as Dehail was responding to the city's garrison officer's question, Tanes turned around and exchanged a knowing glance with Melina.

Melina immediately understood Tanes's meaning, and crossed her arms in a prayer-like gesture. Behind her, a golden phantom of a golden tree appeared. When the golden light shone on the officers and pedestrians, all the fatigue from getting up early vanished.

Upon seeing this, the Gondorian officer in charge did not try to stop them. Instead, he immediately mounted his horse, arranged for his deputy to temporarily take over his duties, and rode after Tanes and his men as they passed by.

“Are you the wizard Lord Gandalf mentioned? I’ve heard so much about you, I never expected to meet you today. I will accompany you to the city, which will save us from a lot of questioning along the way,” said the Gondor officer.

Tanes looked curiously at the Gondor officer riding alongside him and asked, "You trust my identity that much?"

The Gondor officer smiled and replied, “My family once sent followers to the Golden Tree territory, and since their return, they have been telling us about the Golden Tree’s wonders. Therefore, the witchcraft performed by the lady behind you just now is enough to prove your identities. Even if you are not the lord of the Golden Tree, you must be someone closely related to him. Moreover, thanks to you, the magical fruits that the followers brought back from the Golden Tree territory saved my son’s life.”

The Gondor officer then sighed, “My son was born strong and healthy, just like me, and he even said he would serve Gondor with me when he grew up. But a few months ago, for some unknown reason, he fell ill with a strange disease, and his health deteriorated day by day until he was bedridden. I sought out countless doctors, but none could cure his illness. I was about to give up, thinking that his life was over, but unexpectedly, after eating a piece of fruit from your territory, he became much more energetic.” Tanes said, “Those fruits contain trace amounts of the blessing of the golden tree, and eating them can indeed cure some simple illnesses. But from your description, it seems to me that your son doesn't have some intractable disease, but rather some kind of curse?”

The Gondor officer scratched his head in confusion: "Well, Lord Saruman the White Robe heard about my son from somewhere before and came to the family. He said that my son suffers from a very rare disease, not some kind of curse."

Saruman? Gandalf mentioned that he also admired the wizard, which shows that Saruman was quite powerful.

Maybe I'm just overthinking it; it's just a rare disease, not some kind of curse.

Tanes nodded thoughtfully and said to the Gondor officer, "In that case, to thank you for leading the way, I will present you with a jade pendant for your son to wear once we arrive at the Regent's palace."

The Gondorian officer was overjoyed and quickly thanked Tanes, then suppressed his smile and ended the small talk.

He simply wanted to say a few words to Tanes, hoping to make an impression on this wizard who had been making headlines and gaining popularity in recent months. Receiving the jade pendant from him was already an unexpected bonus.

However, he did not forget his duty and asked Dehail, "Black Gate Ranger, why didn't your father come in person this time? What happened?"

Dehel was about to say that it was about Sauron's appearance in Mordor, but he immediately realized that he couldn't just say this news, and he started to stammer.

The legion member frowned slightly. Seeing this, Tanes sighed and stepped in to defuse the situation, saying, "On my trip to Mordor, I happened to encounter the Orcs in revolt, and the Nazgûl were leading them in an attack on the Black Gate. I suspect the Orc riot in Mordor might be related to the dwarves' recapture of the Lonely Mountain, so I suggest that Lord Talion report this matter to the Regent, hoping to draw your country's attention."

Sure enough, the officer's brow relaxed as soon as Tanes spoke.

The Gondor officer said, “The Orc riots happen several times a year; those filthy scum are like ants in the ground, impossible to eradicate. But this is the first time in many years that the Ringwraiths have led them to attack the Black Gate. This is indeed a significant matter. I will report this as soon as I arrive and request that His Majesty the Regent summon you immediately.”

Tanes nodded slightly, said nothing more, and rode his Torret behind the officer, galloping through the streets of Minas Tirith.

Their galloping figures attracted the attention of many people on the street, who turned to look at them. Only after Tanes and his companions had gone some distance did they begin to discuss the matter.
