Chapter 169 Disappointed Shiro

Melina had no interest in answering Sauron's question; instead, she immediately used the Golden Tree Prayer to quickly restore Tanes's condition.

After Tanes repelled the Ringwraith, he saw it resurrected right next to Sauron and once again wielded the Greatsword of the Hunting Gods to unleash his battle technique.

The black and white flames burned the surrounding Orks into torches, and Melina's Golden Tree Prayer also restored Tanes's condition to a great extent. So he immediately tightened his grip on Torret's reins and turned around without wasting any time, running back the way he came.

There were too many enemies ahead, and even though most of them were Oc enemies used as cannon fodder, Tanes didn't want him and Melina to be in danger.

After all, Tanes' purpose in coming to the Black Gate was only to harvest the souls of the Orks. Although he expected to fight Zoro, he did not expect it to happen so soon.

He had assumed that Zoro would only show himself after he had slaughtered a large number of Orks, unable to bear the thought of him killing their minions.

No one told Tanes that Sauron had been eyeing him for a long time. He had just beaten one of his men, and Sauron had his underlings sacrifice himself to teleport over, not only that, but he also brought the rest of the Ringwraiths with him.

So when did Zoro start keeping an eye on him?
Tanes suddenly recalled the black mist that flashed by when he was cleaning the two Ringwraith Rings. Considering that the Ringwraiths would be resurrected by Sauron after they died, he guessed that Sauron had probably targeted him when he was purifying the Ringwraith Rings.

Tanes was right; the moment Sauron truly set his sights on him was when he sensed that the two Ringwraith Rings had lost contact with him.

Whether it's an outsider or the Golden Tree, Zoro will at most feel curious.

But Thaneus purified the Ringwraiths' rings effortlessly, which was a different matter for Sauron.

This means that if the One Ring, which contains most of his power, falls into Thanes' hands, Thanes is very likely to destroy it.

In other words, the place to destroy the One Ring is no longer the only one; there is a second place besides Mount Doom that can destroy the One Ring.

This is something Sauron cannot tolerate, especially now that the whereabouts of the One Ring are still unknown.

If the One Ring were to fall into Thaneus's hands, Sauron could only hope that Thaneus would be tempted and corrupted by the Ring.

Otherwise, if the enemy purifies the One Ring, Sauron's efforts will be completely thwarted, and then what's the point of his attack on Middle-earth?

Therefore, when faced with the golden tree of Thaneus, which could potentially purify the One Ring, Sauron's first reaction was fear.

But after the initial fear, Sauron immediately realized that if he could use every means to corrupt Tanes into his own camp, wouldn't it be much easier to attack the elves, humans, and dwarves in Middle-earth?

Unfortunately, although Tanes had inadvertently fallen into his own linguistic trap, the girl behind him somehow saw through his scheme and brought Tanes back to his senses.

Sauron squinted at Tanez, who was getting further and further away from him. He did not send the Ringwraiths forward, but instead ordered the only remaining human minions, the Tower, to command the Orks to continue the pursuit. Then he led the Ringwraiths away from the area.

Previously, when Sauron was in Dorguldo, Gandalf and his companions came to him. At that time, Sauron discovered that Gandalf and Elrond had acquired weapons given to them by the wizards of the Golden Tree. Therefore, while he was recuperating, he chose to avoid the battle and left the place.

Even now, Zoro's power has not fully recovered.

This is why Sauron wanted to corrupt Thaneth and use the wizard's power and the power of the golden tree to forge a new One Ring.

Thinking this, Sauron commanded the seven Ringwraiths following behind him, "Search the place where the Ring was last lost, and don't overlook any clues related to it." The seven Ringwraiths knelt down on one knee behind Sauron, saying, "Yes, Master."

Meanwhile, on Tanes' side...

Talion, who was above the Black Gate, had been watching the battlefield on Tanes' side. When he saw Tanes fighting Shiro, he had already prepared his men to go down and escort Tanes.

To Talion's surprise, the Ringwraiths appeared on the battlefield, and Talion knew perfectly well the identity of the black-armored giant surrounded by the Ringwraiths.

But he did not hesitate at all and still chose to lead his men to support Tanes.

Even when Tanes asked him to launch a death charge against Sauron, Talion and the rangers behind him did not intend to refuse.

They were stationed at the Black Gate to fight against Zoro, and now that Zoro has personally arrived on the battlefield, the Rangers are eager to kill him.

The sound of horses' hooves and the twang of bowstrings echoed across the wasteland beneath the Black Gate. The rangers' arrows flew over Tanes and pierced the bodies of the pursuing Orks, causing these creatures to scream in agony.

But the purpose of this rain of arrows was more to provide cover than to kill the enemy, because it was still night, and apart from the area around Tanes being illuminated by starlight magic, the rest of the place was still pitch black.

The rangers could only determine the location of the Orks by their faint shadows and the sounds they made, and relied on the number of arrows to help Tanes escape their pursuit.

Talion shouted loudly towards the front: "Tanez!"

Tanes had already noticed the group of rangers who had come to their aid on horseback. After meeting up with Talion, he immediately said, "Let's go back first. We don't know how many enemies are still outside. Besides Sauron, there's another guy named Shiro, and I'm not sure if he's still nearby."

This statement is true. Although Tanes was certain that Shira had escaped after being seriously injured by him, it did not mean that the other party would not take advantage of the confrontation between him and Zoro to lie low and return.

He found it easy to deal with Shiro, but it might not be so easy for rangers like Talion.

Talion paused for a moment upon hearing the name "Shiro," then realized how dangerous the dark wilderness was and immediately ordered the rangers to return to the Black Gate.

As Tanes had predicted, although the rangers were not attacked, some of the Orks who were chasing them suddenly panicked, accompanied by the cries of Shiro and the sound of spider silk being spat out.

The severely injured Shira needed more blood food to heal her body. After being seriously injured by Tanes, she planned to escape, but unexpectedly, Zoro appeared.

So Shiro planned to wait until Tanes and Zoro started fighting, and then see if he could take advantage of the situation by acting like a mantis stalking a cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.

To Shiro's disappointment, Tanes and Zoro did not fight. So she decided to target the group of rangers and secretly lurked near the towering walls of the Black Gate.

Then Shiro saw Tanes running in this direction, his body still throbbing with intense pain from the wounds he had inflicted.

Therefore, although Shiro wished she could swallow Tanes whole, she still faced reality and stayed away from those rangers, changing her hunting targets to those sour and smelly Orks.
