Chapter 490 Let's escape from here together!
“Most importantly, we have allies,” Emily said, pointing to the resting Zeta sample, “and friendly symbiotes will be our greatest advantage.”
“No matter what challenges we face, we will stand together,” Lynn told the team. “We have proven the power of humanity; now it is time to prove the possibility of cooperation between humanity and friendly extraterrestrial life.”
Three days after the victory in Brasilia, Lynn stood before a map at the temporary command post, gazing at a satellite image of Antarctica. A large red dot marked there represented the symbiote's last major stronghold on Earth.
“What are you thinking about?” Sarah walked to his side. “I can feel the struggle within you.”
Lynn took a deep breath. "I'm thinking about whether there are any other options besides war."
"What's the meaning?"
“While the battle of Brasilia was a victory, we also killed hundreds of innocent soldiers controlled by the symbiotes,” Lynn’s voice was heavy. “Although we had no other choice at the time, from the symbiotes’ perspective, we might have been the invaders.”
Sarah understood Lynn's concerns. "You want to try negotiating?"
“Yes,” Lynn turned to her, “if the Antarctic symbiotes really are their headquarters, there might be top-level leaders there. Perhaps we can resolve this conflict diplomatically instead of continuing the bloodshed.”
Just then, the other team members gathered around. Peter overheard their conversation.
“Peace talks? Lynn, do you know how dangerous that is?” Peter said worriedly. “We know nothing about the Antarctic base, and the symbiotes there might be more powerful than any enemy we’ve ever encountered.”
“That’s why a military attack could cause even greater casualties,” Lynn explained. “And we’ve learned from Zeta that not all symbiotes support the Dominance faction’s radical policies. Perhaps we can establish contact with the Harmony faction.”
Emily walked over. "This idea is bold, but is it practically feasible? We don't even know how to contact them, let alone ensure the security of the negotiations."
“We have Zeta,” Lynn pointed towards the lab, “which can serve as a bridge for communication. And based on our observations, Zeta holds a certain position and influence within the symbiote.”
Alex emerged from the lab, a report in his hand. "Speaking of Zeta, it just expressed a strong desire to me."
"What is your wish?" Lynn asked.
“It hopes to engage in direct dialogue with the symbiotic leadership in Antarctica,” Alex explained. “It believes that only face-to-face communication can truly resolve misunderstandings and hatred.”
“This coincides with my thinking,” Lynn nodded. “Perhaps this is the opportunity we’ve been looking for.”
Carlos expressed his concern, "But this is too risky. If the negotiations fail, you may never come back."
“Every great peace requires someone to take risks,” Lynn said firmly. “We’ll never know the possibility of peace if we don’t try.”
Dr. Banner joined the discussion via video link, stating, "From a scientific perspective, this plan does have some feasibility. Our research shows that different political factions do exist within symbiote species, and they also have different views on their relationship with humans."
“But what about security?” Emma asked practically. “How can we guarantee the safety of our negotiators?”
“This is the most crucial part of the plan,” Lynn said. “To show our sincerity, I believe I should go alone, with only Zeta as a translator and protector.”
“What?!” Everyone was shocked.
“Lynn, this is insane!” Sarah exclaimed excitedly. “Going to a place like that alone is practically suicide!”
“Listen to me,” Lynn raised his hand to calm everyone down, “if we send an armed force, that’s a threat, not a negotiation. Only by showing complete trust and sincerity can we expect a response.”
“But what if something goes wrong?” Peter said worriedly.
“That is my choice and my responsibility,” Lynn replied. “As the captain of this team, I have an obligation to take risks for peace.”
Michael walked over. "If you really decide to do this, at least let me prepare some emergency equipment for you."
"What kind of equipment?"
“Emergency communicators, locating beacons, and some protective gear,” Michael listed, “so that even in the worst-case scenario, we can locate you.”
After lengthy discussions, the team finally agreed to Lynn's plan, despite everyone's deep concerns.
The following day, Lynn began preparing for this unprecedented diplomatic mission. First, he needed to have in-depth communication with Zeta to understand the complex political structure of the symbiote society.
In the lab, Alex helps Lynn and Zeta forge a deeper connection.
“Zeta said the Antarctic base is controlled by an organization called the ‘Primal Council,’” Alex translated. “This council consists of seven of the oldest and most powerful symbiotes, the first individuals to arrive on Earth.”
"What is their attitude?" Lynn asked.
“It’s complicated,” Alex continued translating. “Three advocate for harmonious coexistence with humanity, two advocate for adaptation and transformation, and two are staunch rulers.”
"So, do we have any hope of persuading the majority of peace-loving members?"
“Zeta thinks it’s possible, but the key is how to handle the consequences of the Brasilia incident,” Alex’s expression turned serious. “The deaths there have turned many previously neutral symbiotes into hostile ones towards humanity.”
This is indeed a complex issue. From a human perspective, Brasilia's actions were self-defense, but from a symbiotic perspective, it could be seen as genocide.
“We need to make them understand that humans are not attacking them intentionally, but are protecting themselves,” Lynn thought about how to express this point.
“Zeta suggested we prepare some evidence,” Alex added, “to prove that humanity is willing to coexist with a peaceful symbiote, such as our treatment of the soldiers who have regained consciousness, and our friendly attitude towards Zeta herself.”
Over the next few days, Lynn coordinated this special mission with international partners. Although many government officials expressed skepticism about the plan, they ultimately gave their support. "This may be the last chance to avert a global war," the UN Secretary-General said in a secret meeting. "If Agent Lynn can establish peace talks, we will fully support him."
On their last night before departure, Lynn had what was likely their final dinner together. The atmosphere was somewhat somber, yet filled with hope.
“If I don’t come back,” Lynn told the team, “I hope you continue this work. Not only to protect humans, but also to protect the symbiotes that seek peace.”
“Don’t say such things,” Sarah said, tears welling in her eyes. “You will come back, with the peace treaty.”
“I will do my best,” Lynn promised.
The following morning, a specially designed transport plane landed on the edge of Antarctica. Lynn, dressed in heavy polar gear and carrying a special backpack containing a Zeta containment device, stepped onto this ice-covered continent.
"According to satellite data, the symbiote base is located about 200 kilometers inland," the pilot told Lynn over the radio. "We'll wait here for 72 hours. If you don't return..."
“I understand,” Lynn interrupted him, “Thank you for your support.”
Walking alone on the Antarctic ice sheet is a surreal experience. All around is endless white, with only the sound of the wind and one's own footsteps. But Lynn knows that beneath this seemingly empty land lies a secret that could determine the fate of two races.
After two days of arduous trekking, Lynn finally reached his destination. Here, the surface of the ice showed obvious anomalies: in some areas, the ice and snow exhibited peculiar black textures, and the temperature was significantly higher than the surrounding environment.
“Zeta, we’ve arrived,” Lynn contacted Zeta using the basic symbiote communication methods Alex had taught him.
Zeta inside the containment device began to stir, clearly sensing the presence of its kind.
Just then, the ice layer suddenly began to move. It wasn't melting, but rather flowing like liquid, revealing the metallic structure beneath. This was clearly a product of symbiotic technology—they built the entire base beneath the ice and were able to control the shape of the ice and snow.
An opening appeared before Lynn, emanating a soft yet majestic light. This was the entrance to the Symbiote's Antarctic base.
Lynn took a deep breath and stepped through the entrance. The sight inside stunned him: this was not a simple underground base, but a magnificent underground city. Huge organic structures stretched to the horizon, with luminous substances flowing across the walls and ceilings hundreds of meters high, giving one the feeling of being in another world.
“Welcome, human,” a voice echoed directly in Lynn’s mind, “We have been waiting for your arrival.”
Lynn looked around and saw seven enormous figures emerge from the shadows. These were the members of the Primordial Council, each with a unique form, yet all exuding an ancient and powerful aura.
“I am Lynn Hall, representing the Human Government to seek peaceful dialogue,” Lynn said, trying to remain calm. “I have brought our mutual friend Zeta with me, hoping it can help us build understanding.”
“Zeta,” one of the council members’ voices was filled with complex emotion, “our young brethren, you chose to cooperate with humans, betraying your own race.”
“It’s not betrayal, but a search for true coexistence,” Lynn sensed that Zeta was defending himself in some way, even though he couldn’t directly understand the communication between symbiotes.
“Coexistence?” another member of parliament said sarcastically. “Humans slaughtered hundreds of our compatriots in Brasilia, and this is your so-called coexistence?”
“That’s because you attacked and controlled innocent humans first,” Lynn tried to explain. “We were just protecting ourselves.”
"Protection?" the third council member demanded angrily. "You destroyed the entire base with explosions, and our compatriots were reduced to ashes in the flames. Is this protection?"
Lynn realized the situation was more difficult than he had anticipated. The symbiote's anger over the Brasilia incident ran deeper than he had imagined.
“I understand your anger,” Lynn tried to change the subject, “but please also understand our fear. When your own people began to control our people, creating biological weapons to attack innocent civilians, we also felt our survival threatened.”
“Those are extreme actions by the ruling faction,” a relatively moderate voice said. “Many of our members do not support those actions.”
“Then we have something in common,” Lynn seized the opportunity, “neither of us wants innocent lives to be harmed, whether human or symbiote.”
But at that moment, one of the most radical council members suddenly erupted: "Enough! Humanity has proven its true nature—violence, greed, and inability to coexist peacefully with other races! They must be controlled or exterminated!"
“Wait,” Lynn tried to stop the situation from escalating, “we can find a solution that both sides can accept.”
“There is no solution!” the radical symbiote roared. “You came here to scout our base and prepare for the next attack!”
Suddenly, four council members began to transform, their bodies swelling and sprouting claws and tentacles, clearly preparing to attack. Only three members remained in a relatively calm form.
“Protect humanity! He is a messenger of peace!” Lynn heard Zeta shouting desperately, but the radicals clearly wouldn’t listen.
The first attack came very suddenly. A huge tentacle lashed out at Lynn, too fast to dodge. Lynn barely managed to roll away, but immediately faced a second wave of attacks.
“We must get out of here!” Lynn sensed Zeta’s urgent message.
But four radical symbiotes had surrounded him, and their power far surpassed any enemy Lynn had ever encountered before. These were the oldest and most powerful symbiotes, each with thousands of years of survival experience.
Just as Lynn was about to be struck by a giant claw, a miracle occurred. The containment device suddenly ruptured, and Zeta poured out, but instead of fleeing, it charged directly at Lynn.
"What is it doing?" Lynn thought in shock.
The next second, Lynn experienced something unlike anything he had ever felt before. Zeta didn't try to control him; instead, she established a true symbiotic relationship with him. Black matter covered Lynn's body, but his consciousness remained fully awake, even more acute than before.
“Now we’re true partners,” Zeta’s voice echoed clearly in Lynn’s mind, “We’ll escape from here together!”
After becoming symbiotic with Zeta, Lynn gained superhuman abilities. His speed, strength, and reflexes were greatly enhanced, and he was able to move freely on walls and ceilings.
"He's actually coexisting with humans!" exclaimed a radical member of parliament in shock. (End of Chapter)
