Chapter 485 exceeded their expectations!
"According to the base layout map provided by the Brazilian military," Lynn pointed out during the tactical discussion, "Campo Grand Base is divided into several main areas: command center, barracks, training grounds, weapons depot, industrial area, and medical facilities."
"If we want to liberate the base, which area should we attack first?" Chen Kai asked.
“The command center is key,” Peter analyzed. “If the symbiotes truly maintain a military organizational structure, the command center is their brain.”
“But the command center is definitely the most heavily defended place,” Carlos pointed out. “A frontal attack would be almost impossible.”
“Perhaps we don’t need a direct attack,” Emma suggested, “what if we could attack multiple targets simultaneously, distracting them?”
“A dispersed attack is indeed feasible,” Lynn considered the strategy, “but we have limited manpower and are facing a well-trained army.”
“That’s why we need international support,” Dr. Banner cautioned. “We simply cannot handle a threat of this scale on our own.”
Just then, the communicator rang, and a voice with a heavy Portuguese accent spoke: "This is Brazilian military intelligence. I am Colonel Carlos Santos, and I am waiting for your arrival."
“Colonel Santos, this is Lynn Hall,” Lynn replied. “We expect to arrive in Brasilia in eight hours.”
“Very well, but I must tell you, the situation has taken a new turn,” Colonel Santos said nervously. “An hour ago, activity within the base suddenly increased, and we detected a large amount of electromagnetic signals.”
"What kind of electromagnetic signal?" Michael asked.
“It looks like some kind of communication system,” Santos replied, “and the signal strength is very high with a wide coverage area. We are concerned that they may be communicating with symbiotes in other areas.”
This information made everyone even more nervous.
“If the symbiote in Brasilia is indeed coordinating global operations,” Lynn realized the gravity of the situation, “then we are not just facing an isolated military base, but a crucial node in a global symbiote network.”
“What’s worse,” Emily added, “is that if they successfully establish a global communications network, they can share tactical information and operational experience in real time.”
“Then our actions must be swifter and more sudden,” Peter concluded. “We cannot give them any more time to prepare.”
Six hours later, a military transport plane was waiting on the tarmac at FBI headquarters. All members of Lynn's team were fully equipped and ready to depart.
“This mission may be the most dangerous challenge we’ve ever faced,” Lynn told the team. “We’re not only dealing with the symbiotes, but also with the human military knowledge they’ve acquired. Everyone needs to be extremely careful.”
“We are ready,” everyone answered in unison.
The flight lasted twelve hours. On board, Lynn continued to coordinate communications with the Brazilian military and other international forces.
"British SAS special forces have arrived," the communicator updated. "The French Foreign Legion is also en route. The US 75th Ranger Regiment will arrive two hours after you."
“Very good,” Lynn replied, “We need as much support as possible.”
“But there’s a problem,” Colonel Santos’s voice came through again, “We tried to make radio contact with the personnel inside the base, and we got some…strange responses.”
"What kind of response?" Lynn asked.
“It sounded like normal military communications, but the content was very unusual,” Santos explained. “They claimed the base was conducting ‘important evolutionary experiments’ and demanded that all external forces keep their distance.”
“An evolutionary experiment?” Dr. Banner was uneasy. “This sounds like the symbiote is using military facilities to conduct some kind of large-scale genetic modification or fusion experiment.”
“If that’s the case,” Emily said worriedly, “everyone in the base may have already undergone irreversible changes.”
This possibility made the atmosphere on the plane even more somber.
“We must stop them no matter what,” Lynn said firmly. “We cannot allow this kind of ‘experiment’ to spread further.”
As the plane began its descent, the night view of Brasilia could be seen through the porthole. The modern capital city was exceptionally beautiful at night, but everyone knew that a huge threat lurked beneath this beautiful exterior.
Upon landing, they were taken directly to a temporary command post, which housed military and intelligence personnel from multiple countries.
“Welcome to Brasilia,” Colonel Santos greeted them personally. “I am Carlos Santos, the field commander for this joint operation.”
Colonel Santos was a man in his fifties, tall with sharp eyes, clearly an experienced officer.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Colonel,” Lynn shook his hand. “How are things going?”
“The situation is not optimistic,” Santos replied directly. “The base’s defenses have been reinforced again in the past few hours. Our drone reconnaissance indicates that they have deployed new weapon systems at the main entrance.”
"What kind of weapon system?" Peter asked.
“It looks like a laser weapon,” Santos explained, “capable of accurately shooting down any aerial target. And they have a long range, covering an area of five kilometers around the base.”
"Laser weapons?" Michael exclaimed in shock. "Does the Brazilian military have this technology?"
“No,” Santos shook his head. “It’s clearly a product of the combination of symbiote technology and human military engineering.”
"What about ground attacks?" Carlos asked.
“It’s also very difficult,” Santos pointed out several locations on the map, “They’ve set up minefields and automatic firing points in these places. And…”
“And what?” Lynn urged.
“And we’ve discovered patrols,” Santos’s expression grew even more serious, “patrols composed of controlled soldiers operating around the base. Their behavior is completely professional, like a normal military patrol, but anyone who gets too close is immediately eliminated.”
“It seems we are indeed facing an enemy that has maintained its full military capabilities,” Lynn concluded.
“Yes, and there’s even worse news,” Santos continued, “Communications we’ve intercepted indicate that some kind of large-scale operation may be being prepared at the base.”
"What kind of operation?" Emma asked.
“We’re not sure of the specifics, but it sounds like they’re going to send some kind of ‘spreader’ into downtown Brasilia,” Santos explained, “if they really intend to spread the symbiote infection to the city’s population.” Lynn realized the urgency of the situation. “We have to act before they implement this plan.”
“I agree, but the problem is how to break through their defenses,” Santos pointed out the practical difficulties. “A frontal attack would almost be suicidal.”
“Then we won’t attack head-on,” Lynn began to devise a new strategy. “We need to utilize our unique advantages—our superpowers and our understanding of symbiotes.”
Just then, the commander of the British SAS unit approached. "I am Major John Smith. I have just received the latest intelligence from London."
"What intelligence?" Lynn asked.
"The symbiotic activity beneath London has suddenly ceased," Major Smith reported, "as if they were waiting for some kind of signal."
“Waiting for a signal?” Dr. Banner pondered. “Perhaps the symbiote in Brasilia is indeed coordinating global actions.”
“If that’s the case,” Lynn realized, “then stopping Brasilia’s actions isn’t just about protecting South America, but about stopping a global symbiotic uprising.”
“The pressure is indeed immense,” Santos acknowledged, “but it also means that our actions have global significance.”
“Then we absolutely cannot fail,” Lynn said firmly. “No matter what difficulties we face, we must succeed.”
Over the next few hours, the joint command began to formulate a detailed attack plan. Considering the enemy's unique characteristics and strong defenses, they decided to employ a multi-stage, multi-directional, composite attack strategy.
“In the first phase, we need to disrupt their communication systems,” Lynn planned, “to prevent them from contacting symbiotes in other areas.”
"In the second phase, we will disperse our attacks on multiple secondary targets, forcing them to divert their defensive forces," Major Smith added.
“The third phase: concentrate our forces on attacking the command center,” Santos completed the plan. “Once we control the command center, the entire base's defenses will crumble.”
“But all of this is contingent on us being able to break through their outer defenses,” Peter pointed out the key issue.
“This is where our team comes in,” Lynn said. “Our superpowers may be the key to breaking through conventional defenses.”
Night had fallen, but no one felt tired. Everyone knew that tomorrow's actions would determine not only the fate of Brazil, but possibly the fate of the entire world.
During the final preparations, Alex once again tried to contact Zeta, hoping to obtain more information about the situation inside the military base.
“Zeta said there are indeed some symbiotes within the base who are unwilling to participate in violence,” Alex reported, “but they are strictly controlled by the dominant individuals.”
"Can you pinpoint their exact locations?" Lynn asked.
“I’m not sure, but Zeta mentioned a medical facility,” Alex replied. “It might hold some uncooperative soldiers and friendly symbiotes.”
“That medical facility is one of our secondary objectives,” Lynn decided. “If we can rescue those people, we can gain internal support.”
As dawn broke, all participating troops were in position. Lynn stood on the lookout tower of the temporary command post, looking towards the distant Campo Grande military base. Even several kilometers away, the unusual energy fluctuations and occasional flashes of light above the base could be seen.
"Are you ready?" Colonel Santos asked.
Lynn gave the communication equipment a final check, then looked at his team members, each of whom wore a determined and focused expression.
“We’re ready,” Lynn replied. “Let’s begin.”
At 4:30 a.m., the sky over Brasilia was still pitch black. Lynn's team, along with multinational special forces, had already positioned themselves one kilometer from the outer perimeter of the Campo Grande military base, awaiting the final signal to attack.
"Attention all units, operation commences," Colonel Santos's voice came through the encrypted communication channel. "Good luck."
Lynn observed the target area ahead through night vision goggles. Their chosen point of attack was a relatively weak defensive area in the southeast corner of the base—the original vehicle repair shop, now transformed by the symbiote into a hybrid of organic architecture and metal structure.
"Sarah, how's the situation?" Lynn asked in a low voice.
“There are six signs of life within fifty meters ahead. Energy signatures indicate they are all soldiers controlled by the symbiote,” Sarah reported, focusing her attention. “They are heavily guarded, in a standard military defensive formation.”
"Michael, is the electronic jamming ready?"
“Ready,” Michael checked the equipment in his hands. “Once the attack begins, I will block all communication signals in this area to prevent them from requesting assistance from command.”
“Very good,” Lynn confirmed the tactical arrangements one last time. “Chen Kai will make a rapid advance and eliminate the outer sentries. Peter will approach from the air and control the high ground. Emma will block the retreat. Carlos, Emily, and Alex will come with me to capture the central building. Everyone remember, our objective is to establish a stronghold, not to penetrate deep into enemy territory.”
"Received," everyone confirmed through their headsets.
"The operation begins," Lynn ordered.
The first wave of attacks was swift. Chen Kai used his teleportation ability to appear behind the first sentry before the enemy could react, delivering a precise neck strike that instantly knocked the man unconscious. Surprisingly, the soldier controlled by the symbiote emitted a short but clear alarm before collapsing.
"Damn, their reaction speed is too fast," Chen Kai reported through the communicator. "Even a teleportation attack was detected."
Sure enough, alarms immediately sounded within the base, and red warning lights began flashing. Clearly, the symbiote had not only preserved the soldiers' professional training but also enhanced their reaction capabilities.
"The covert infiltration plan has failed; we're switching to a forced breakthrough," Lynn immediately adjusted tactics. "Michael, activate electronic jamming immediately!"
A powerful electromagnetic pulse emanated from Michael's device, instantly disrupting all electronic communications within a one-kilometer radius. But the symbiote's response exceeded their expectations.
“Lynn, they’re not using radio communication,” Sarah reported in surprise. “I sense they’re communicating using some kind of bio-electromagnetic wave!”
"What's the meaning?"
“They have a direct mental connection, like a giant neural network!” Sarah explained. “Our electronic interference is completely ineffective against them!”
This discovery made everyone realize that the enemy they faced was far more formidable than they had imagined. The symbiotes had not only acquired human military knowledge but also retained the unique abilities of their own race. (End of Chapter)
