Chapter 476 The situation is out of control!
“This symbiote is acting strangely,” Lynn observed. “Its behavior is chaotic, unlike the more rational ones we’ve encountered before.”
"Perhaps there was a problem with the fusion process," Emily explained from a medical perspective. "If the symbiote attempts to control multiple hosts simultaneously, it could cause mental disorders."
Just as they were observing, the symbiote suddenly stopped its search and slowly turned in their direction. Clearly, it had sensed their presence.
“We’ve been exposed,” Lynn immediately raised his weapon. “Prepare for battle.”
The symbiote let out a deafening roar, then charged towards them at astonishing speed. It was faster than any symbiote they had encountered before, almost becoming a black shadow.
“Sarah, predict its attack path!” Lynn commanded.
“It’s aiming at you, attacking from the right!” Sarah responded immediately.
Following Sarah's directions, Lynn rolled to the left, barely dodging the symbiote's first attack. The symbiote's claws left deep scratches on the ground where he had just stood.
"Emily, take cover!" Lynn shouted, firing continuously.
The bullet struck the symbiote's body, but caused limited damage. The symbiote's black substance appeared to absorb and disperse the impact.
"Conventional weapons aren't working well!" Lynn reported. "We need other methods!"
At that moment, Michael's voice came through the communicator: "Lynn, I've detected that the building's electrical system is still operational. If we can find the power control room, I can try to harm the symbiote with a high-voltage shock."
"Where is it located?" Lynn asked while dodging attacks.
“According to the architectural drawings, it should be in the maintenance area on the basement level,” Michael replied.
"Sarah, can you sense what's happening on the first basement level?"
“I’ll give it a try,” Sarah focused. “There are two symbiotes in the underground level, and many trapped civilians, at least fifteen people.”
This means that Peter's group faces a more complex situation.
“Michael, contact Peter’s group and tell them about the situation in the underground level,” Lynn instructed. “At the same time, prepare for the operation of the power system.”
At the same time, the symbiote launched another attack. This time, it had learned Lynn's evasion pattern and predicted Lynn's movement path in advance.
"Watch out!" Sarah shouted a warning, "It anticipated your move!"
Lynn realized the danger and immediately changed his strategy. Instead of dodging in a fixed pattern, he moved randomly, making the symbiote unpredictable.
“Emily, do you have any medical options for the symbiote?” Lynn asked.
“I’m analyzing it,” Emily thought, hiding behind cover. “If the symbiote has indeed fused with multiple hosts, its biological system might be very unstable. Perhaps strong biochemical stimuli could trigger a rejection reaction.”
"What kind of biochemical stimulation?"
“Adrenaline, high doses of adrenaline,” Emily explained. “If the symbiote’s control mechanisms depend on the host’s nervous system, sudden hormonal fluctuations can disrupt that control.”
Do you have enough adrenaline?
“Yes, but it needs to be injected directly,” Emily said, pulling out an extra-large dose of adrenaline syringe. “I need to get close to it.”
“It’s too dangerous,” Lynn objected.
“This might be our best chance,” Emily insisted, “and I’m a doctor, I know how to administer injections safely.”
Lynn hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Okay, but we need a plan. Sarah, can you use your sensory abilities to interfere with the symbiote for a split second?"
“I can try, but only for a few seconds,” Sarah replied, “and it will take a lot of my energy.”
“That’s enough,” Lynn devised a strategy. “I’ll distract it, Sarah will use psychological manipulation, and Emily will take the opportunity to inject.”
The plan was put into action. Lynn deliberately exposed his position, launching a frontal attack on the symbiote. The enraged symbiote immediately focused all its attention on him, roaring as it charged towards him.
“Now, Sarah!” Lynn commanded.
Sarah concentrated all her mental power and unleashed a powerful mental shock on the symbiote. The symbiote suddenly stopped, as if it had been hit by a huge shock, and briefly lost its ability to move.
"Emily, hurry!"
Emily rushed toward the symbiote and plunged the adrenaline syringe into its body. The large dose of adrenaline immediately took effect.
The symbiote let out a painful roar, and the black substance began to fluctuate violently. Some kind of intense conflict could be seen occurring within it—multiple different human faces appeared faintly beneath the black covering, then disappeared.
"It's working!" Emily reported excitedly. "The symbiote control is in disarray!"
But this effect only lasted about thirty seconds. The symbiote seemed to adapt to the effects of adrenaline and regained control. Moreover, it appeared to become even more angry and dangerous.
“It’s adapted,” Emily said worriedly, “and now it’s even more aggressive.”
Indeed, the symbiote that regained control displayed greater combat power than before. Its movements were faster and its attacks more accurate.
Just then, Peter's voice came through the communicator: "Lynn, we've discovered something important in the underground level!"
"What's going on?" Lynn asked while dodging the attacks.
“There’s a temporary symbiote culture facility here,” Peter reported. “It looks like they’re conducting some kind of reproduction or cloning experiment here!”
"What?" Lynn exclaimed in shock. "Are you sure?"
“I’m sure. I saw at least ten culture tanks, all containing symbiote larvae,” Peter continued. “And these trapped people aren’t innocent victims; they are candidates to be used as hosts!”
This discovery completely changed the nature of the mission. They were facing not just a retaliatory attack from the symbiote, but a systemic reproductive and expansionary operation.
“Peter, can you destroy those cultivation facilities?” Lynn asked.
“We’re trying, but there are more symbiotes here than expected,” Peter replied, “and they seem to be desperately protecting those culture tanks.”
“We need support,” Chen Kai’s voice came through. “The symbiotes here are exhibiting strong collective behavior; they are cooperating with each other!”
Lynn realized the urgency of the situation. If the symbiotes were indeed multiplying on a massive scale, tonight might be their last chance to stop them.
“Sarah, we need to deal with the symbiotes here as soon as possible, and then go support Peter and the others,” Lynn decided.
“But this symbiote is too powerful, and our attacks are not very effective,” Sarah pointed out with concern.
Just then, Lynn came up with a strategy. "Emily, although the adrenaline only had a temporary effect, it did trigger a conflict within the symbiote. If we could use multiple biochemical stimuli simultaneously..."
“You mean a combined chemical attack?” Emily understood Lynn’s idea. “Theoretically feasible, but it requires precise dosage and timing.”
“Let’s try,” Lynn decided. “What other chemicals can affect the nervous system?” “Dopamine, serotonin, and this.” Emily pulled out several different syringes. “But if the dosage is wrong, it could kill the host.”
"Are those hosts still alive?" Lynn asked.
Emily carefully observed the symbiote. "Based on biometrics, there should still be signs of life, but they are very faint."
“Then we must take the risk,” Lynn decided. “If we don’t stop this symbiote, more people will become victims.”
A new attack plan was put into action. This time, Lynn wasn't simply trying to distract, but rather attempting to create multiple opportunities to attack.
“Sarah, this time I need you to perform continuous mental interference,” Lynn instructed, “not all at once, but short but frequent interruptions.”
“I understand,” Sarah nodded.
"Emily, prepare multiple chemical injections; we're going to launch a saturation attack."
Lynn began implementing complex tactical maneuvers. He used obstacles such as shelves and pillars in the store to create complex movement routes, forcing the symbiote to constantly change its attack direction.
Whenever the symbiote is about to grab Lynn, Sarah briefly disrupts its mental state, causing it to temporarily lose its balance. During these brief opportunities, Emily quickly approaches and injects different chemicals.
"First injection, dopamine!" Emily reported.
The symbiote's movements began to become uncoordinated.
"Second injection, serotonin!"
The black substance in the symbiote began to exhibit unstable fluctuations.
"The third injection, insulin!"
This time the effects were most pronounced. The symbiote's control system became severely disrupted, and the consciousness of multiple hosts began vying for control of their bodies.
“Keep going! Its defenses are crumbling!” Lynn encouraged.
But at that moment, the shopping center's power system was suddenly cut off, plunging the entire area into darkness.
“Michael, what happened?” Lynn contacted immediately.
“It wasn’t me,” Michael responded nervously. “Someone cut the power from the inside, probably another symbiote!”
In the darkness, the symbiotes' advantages become even more apparent. They already possess superhuman sensory abilities, so the dark environment has little effect on them, but it is a huge disadvantage for humans.
“Sarah, use your perception to guide us,” Lynn immediately adjusted his strategy. “Emily, prepare the emergency lighting.”
But in the darkness, the symbiote's attacks became more ferocious and unpredictable. Lynn heard Emily cry out in alarm; she had clearly been attacked.
“Emily!” Lynn shouted, “Where are you?”
“I’m here. Ah!” Emily’s voice suddenly stopped.
Sarah immediately focused her search. "Emily's vital signs are very weak; she's been captured by the symbiote!"
This was the worst-case scenario. In the darkness, they lost their primary medical support, and Emily herself was in danger.
"Location!" Lynn demanded the exact location urgently.
“Ten o’clock, about fifteen meters away,” Sarah indicated, “but the symbiote is right next to her, and it seems to want to capture her alive, not kill her!”
"Captured alive?" Lynn asked, then realized the possible reason. "It wants to turn Emily into a new host!"
This possibility made Lynn even more anxious. If Emily was controlled by the symbiote, her healing abilities would be used to serve the symbiote.
“We must act immediately,” Lynn decided. “Sarah, can you pinpoint Emily’s exact location?”
“Yes, but the symbiote is right next to her, and any attack could hurt her,” Sarah replied worriedly.
Just then, Michael's voice came through the communicator: "Lynn, I've found an emergency generator and am trying to restore some lighting."
A few seconds later, the mall's emergency lights began to flash, providing dim but sufficient illumination.
Lynn immediately saw the situation: the symbiote had indeed grabbed Emily, but it didn't harm her immediately. Instead, black tentacles began to extend into Emily's body, clearly attempting some kind of fusion process.
“It’s trying to control Emily!” Sarah confirmed Lynn’s concerns.
“We only have a few seconds,” Lynn quickly analyzed. “Once the fusion begins, it will be very difficult to reverse.”
He made a risky decision. "Sarah, I need you to unleash the most powerful mental attack possible, no matter how much it costs. I'm going to rush straight to Emily's rescue."
“That’s too dangerous,” Sarah worried. “If my mental attack fails, you’ll be directly attacked by the symbiote.”
“There is no other choice,” Lynn said firmly. “Three, two, one, move out!”
Sarah concentrated all her mental power, unleashing an unprecedentedly powerful mental attack on the symbiote. This attack was far more intense than before, even causing her to suffer a massive mental backlash.
The symbiote let out a painful roar, briefly losing control of Emily. Lynn seized the opportunity and rushed towards Emily's location.
“Emily, can you hear me?” Lynn asked as she rescued her and checked on her condition.
Emily weakly opened her eyes. "I'm okay, but I feel like something's trying to get into my brain."
“Initial control of the symbiote,” Lynn explained, “Can you move?”
“I’ll try,” Emily said, slowly standing up with Lynn’s help.
But the symbiote quickly recovered from the mental attack, and it appeared even angrier than before. The loss of a potential host made it extremely dangerous.
“It’s going berserk,” Sarah warned, but her voice was weak, clearly the mental attack had taken a toll on her.
As expected, the symbiote began to launch indiscriminate attacks, no longer with any tactics or purpose, driven purely by the impulse to destroy and kill.
"Everyone back off!" Lynn ordered. "Take cover!"
At this critical moment, Peter's voice came through the communicator: "Lynn, we've destroyed the underground breeding facility and are on our way to support you!"
"Hurry!" Lynn responded, "The situation is getting out of control!"
Less than a minute later, Peter, Chen Kai, and Carlos appeared on the first floor. Upon seeing the out-of-control symbiote, Peter immediately assessed the situation.
“This symbiote has completely lost its mind,” Peter judged. “We need to subdue it once and for all with our strongest attack.” (End of Chapter)
