“The volcano is indeed more beautiful at night,” Emily exclaimed. “The red glow is breathtaking.”

Just as they were preparing to return to the port, the weather suddenly changed. The previously clear sky began to gather dark clouds, and the wind noticeably picked up.

“It looks like it’s going to rain,” Lynn observed the changes in the sky.

"And it could be torrential rain," the tour bus driver said with some concern. "Tropical storms come quickly and violently this time of year."

They quickened their pace back to the port, but before they even reached it, the downpour began. This was no ordinary rain; it was a true tropical storm, with raindrops as large as beans, extremely strong winds, and visibility plummeting.

“You can’t go out to sea in this weather,” the port staff told them. “It’s too dangerous.”

Lynn checked the weather forecast, and the situation was indeed not optimistic. "Heavy rain is expected to continue until tomorrow morning, accompanied by strong winds."

“Then we’ll have to stay on the Big Island tonight,” Emily said. “Is there anywhere to stay?”

There are indeed a few small hotels near the port, but due to the sudden downpour, many tourists were stranded there, and the rooms were quickly booked.

"I'm sorry, we have no rooms available," the owner of the last hotel said apologetically.

Lynn and Emily exchanged bewildered glances. They hadn't expected this situation; their flight tomorrow was from Maui, and if they couldn't get back in time, it might disrupt their travel plans.

“We can spend the night in the waiting room at the port,” Lynn suggested. “It won’t be very comfortable, but at least it’ll provide shelter from the wind and rain.”

The waiting room was a simple building with a few rows of benches and basic facilities. Besides them, there were a dozen or so other stranded tourists. Everyone was anxiously waiting for the weather to improve.

“Hopefully the weather will be better by tomorrow morning,” Emily said, looking out at the torrential rain.

The rain outside showed no signs of letting up, with frequent thunder and lightning. The power of this tropical storm was truly impressive.

“We should notify the hotel and explain the situation,” Lynn said, taking out her phone. “We also need to check the flight status for tomorrow.”

Through phone contact, they learned that the weather on Maui was also bad, and many flights were delayed or canceled. It seems that the impact of this rainstorm is widespread.

At 10 p.m., most of the other tourists in the waiting room had already gone to sleep, but Lynn and Emily were still worried about tomorrow's itinerary. Just then, they heard someone knocking on the door.

“Who would go out in this weather?” Emily asked, puzzled.

Lynn walked toward the door and saw a familiar figure through the glass—it was Jack! He was soaking wet, but looked to be in good spirits.

“Jack?” Lynn opened the door. “What are you doing here?”

“I heard some tourists are stranded on the Big Island,” Jack said, wiping the rain off his clothes. “I thought maybe I could help.”

"But how did you get here in such a heavy rain?" Emily asked in surprise.

Jack smiled a little sheepishly. "I swam here. For me, the sea in the downpour was dangerous, but still within my capabilities."

Lynn realized that Jack's abilities were far greater than he had imagined. His ability to cross the sea in such harsh weather demonstrated that he could not only move at high speeds in the water but also cope with various complex sea conditions.

"Did you come here specifically to rescue us?" Emily asked, moved.

“When I heard that someone was stranded, I thought it might be you,” Jack explained. “After all, you’re leaving Hawaii tomorrow and can’t miss your flight.”

“But the distance back to Maui is so far, and there’s also a downpour,” Lynn said with some concern.

“Please trust me,” Jack said earnestly, “I grew up in these waters and know every current and every reef intimately. Even in a downpour, I can bring you back safely.”

Looking into Jack's determined eyes, Lynn recalled what she had learned about him over the past few days. Jack not only possessed special abilities, but more importantly, he was kind, responsible, and trustworthy.

"What's your plan?" Lynn asked.

“I’ll tow a waterproof lifeboat through the water,” Jack explained his plan. “You sit inside, and I’ll propel it through the water. It’s both safe and fast. The lifeboat is completely sealed, so there’s no need to worry about water getting in.”

“That sounds risky,” Emily said hesitantly.

“It’s safer than waiting here,” Jack said. “The downpour could last for days and could even escalate into a typhoon. Leaving now is the best option.”

Lynn weighed the options. Staying here was indeed uncertain, while Jack's abilities had been proven and his character was trustworthy.

“Okay, we believe you,” Lynn made the decision.

Jack smiled with relief. "Then let's set off now, before the storm gets any worse."

He led them to a secluded corner of the harbor where a professional lifeboat was moored. These lifeboats are designed for rough seas and have sophisticated sealing systems and safety equipment.

"Where did this boat come from?" Lynn asked.

“It’s my own,” Jack replied. “I use it frequently for maritime rescue operations. While it’s not official, I have the relevant training and certifications.”

This reassured Lynn even more. Jack not only had superpowers, but also professional rescue skills.

“Get in and fasten your seatbelts,” Jack instructed. “I’ll make sure it’s smooth and safe.”

Lynn and Emily boarded the lifeboat, and Jack carefully checked all the safety equipment before sealing the hatch. They could stay in touch with Jack using the lifeboat's communication equipment.

"Are you ready?" Jack's voice came through the communication device.

“Ready,” Lynn replied.

The lifeboat began to move, but it felt very smooth. Despite the storm outside, it was quiet inside, with only the faint sound of flowing water.

“Jack’s capabilities are truly incredible,” Emily said through the submarine’s intercom. “It feels smoother than any mechanical propulsion.”

Through the small windows of the boat, they could see Jack's figure in the water. Despite the torrential rain and huge waves, his movements remained graceful and powerful, like a spirit of the sea.

"How long do you estimate it will take?" Lynn asked via communicator.

“About two hours,” Jack replied, “a little longer than usual, because we need to avoid some dangerous areas.” During the voyage, they encountered various challenges: giant waves, strong winds, and even floating debris, but Jack skillfully handled them all. He not only used his abilities to propel the lifeboat but also leveraged his deep understanding of the sea conditions to choose the safest routes.

“There are reefs over there, let’s go around them,” Jack explained his route choice over the radio.

An hour later, they had traveled more than halfway. Although it was still windy and rainy outside, the temperature and humidity inside the boat were well maintained.

"How are you feeling?" Jack asked with concern.

“Very good, very smooth,” Emily replied. “And you? Aren’t you tired?”

“It’s alright, this distance is within my normal range,” Jack said. “And I feel more powerful in the water.”

Another hour passed, and they finally saw the lights of Maui. Although it was raining on the island as well, it was noticeably lighter than on the Big Island.

“We’ve arrived,” Jack announced.

The lifeboat slowly entered the harbor on Maui. Despite it being late at night, there were still port staff on duty. They were all surprised to see the lifeboat appear.

"Where are you from?" a port worker asked. "How dare you go out to sea in this weather?"

“From the Big Island,” Lynn explained simply, “we have professional rescue personnel.”

After disembarking, Jack looked a little tired, but was in good spirits. His hair was wet, but he didn't seem cold at all.

“Jack, I don’t know how to thank you,” Lynn said sincerely. “You risked so much to save us.”

“It’s what I should do,” Jack said modestly. “You’ve helped our community, now it’s my turn to help you.”

“But this is more than just helping,” Emily added. “It’s a true act of heroism. Conducting a maritime rescue in such dangerous weather requires immense courage and skill.”

Lynn looked at Jack and suddenly realized that this young man not only had special abilities, but more importantly, he had a kind and brave heart.

“Jack, I want to formally commend you,” Lynn said seriously. “As an FBI agent, I’ve seen many heroes, but few have been willing to risk their lives to help others like you have. You not only saved us, but you also demonstrated what true character is.”

Jack was a little embarrassed by the sudden praise. "I just did what I thought was right."

“It’s this attitude that makes you a true hero,” Lynn continued. “You didn’t become arrogant because of your special abilities, but instead used them to help others. That quality is more valuable than any superpower.”

Emily also expressed her gratitude: "Jack, without you, we might have been stuck on the Big Island for days, missing flights and disrupting our entire trip. More importantly, you showed us what selfless dedication truly means."

“Furthermore,” Lynn added, “I was also impressed by your professional skills and safety awareness. You didn’t use your abilities recklessly, but rather with careful planning and preparation. This shows that you are not only brave, but also intelligent.”

Jack listened to the praise, his eyes shining with emotion. "Thank you for saying that; it means a lot to me."

“I will mention your heroic actions in my report,” Lynn said. “You deserve formal recognition.”

“No need,” Jack waved his hand. “I don’t need any recognition. Being able to help you is the best reward.”

It was already 2 a.m. when I got back to the hotel.

The next morning, they received a text message from Jack asking if they had returned to the hotel safely and if their flight had gone as planned. This thoughtful care touched them even more.

“He not only saved us, but he also continued to care about our safety,” Emily said. “That’s a truly rare quality.”

Around noon, the weather began to improve. Although there was still some light rain, the wind had noticeably weakened, and flights began to resume normal operations.

“It looks like our flight will be able to take off as scheduled,” Lynn checked the flight information. “Thanks to Jack, otherwise we might really be stuck on the Big Island.”

In the afternoon, before heading to the airport, they made a special trip to Jack's residence to thank him again in person.

“You didn’t need to make a special trip,” Jack said when he saw them. “I just did what I was supposed to do.”

“You’re all the more respectable because you think it’s just ‘the thing to do,’” Lynn said. “A true hero never thinks he’s a hero.”

They left Jack their contact information and invited him to contact them if he ever had the chance to visit New York.

“Perhaps we can arrange some formal rescue training or job opportunities for you,” Lynn suggested. “Your abilities and character are well-suited for professional rescue work.”

“Thank you for your kind offer,” Jack said. “I’ll consider it.”

As they said goodbye, Emily gave Jack a hug. "Thank you, Jack. You not only saved us, but you also gave our Hawaii trip a perfect ending."

“You made me realize the value of my abilities,” Jack replied. “Thank you for giving me this opportunity to prove myself.”

“This trip really changed my perspective on many things,” Emily said, “especially my understanding of humanity. Jack showed me the true meaning of selflessness.”

“Yes,” Lynn agreed, “he also made me rethink what a hero is. True heroes are not those who seek praise, but those who dedicate themselves silently and ask for nothing in return.”

“Furthermore,” Emily added, “he also showed us how special abilities should be used correctly—not for personal gain, but to help others.”

While waiting at the airport, they received a message from Sheriff Kahana thanking them for their help in the statue case and asking if they had left the Big Island safely.

“It seems word of Jack’s rescue efforts has spread,” Lynn said. “The local community also appreciates his actions.”

“He deserves this recognition,” Emily said. “Heroic acts should be remembered and praised.”

Before boarding, Lynn sent a report to FBI headquarters detailing Jack's heroic actions and character. He recommended that headquarters consider establishing contact with Jack and offering him professional training or job opportunities.

“Even after we leave Hawaii, we must make sure Jack receives the recognition and support he deserves,” Lynn said.

After takeoff, they took one last look at the beautiful Hawaiian Islands through the window. Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, the islands were bathed in gold, and the seawater shimmered like pearls scattered in the Pacific Ocean.

“We’ll be back, won’t we?” Emily asked.

“Of course,” Lynn said firmly, “Hawaii has become a special place in our hearts, not only because of its beauty, but also because of its people, especially Jack.” (End of Chapter)
