Chapter 348 Self-Confession
As if in response to his thoughts, new activity suddenly appeared on the monitor screen. Outside the base, several rapidly moving figures breached the defensive lines and advanced inwards. Eileen and Marcus's Project X team was implementing part of their plan.
Meanwhile, the situation inside the command center became even more tense. Black Hawk agents began searching the room, and when one of them approached Lynn, he decided to act.
Drawing on years of FBI training, Lynn made a sudden move, a precise strike throwing the nearest agent off balance. In the chaos, Director Henderson and Colonel Roderick joined the counterattack, quickly engaging the other Black Hawk agents in hand-to-hand combat.
The command center turned into a small battlefield, with fists and kicks flying and furniture being overturned. Lynn managed to seize a weapon from a fallen agent, turning the tide of the battle.
Meanwhile, surveillance screens showed that Erin had infiltrated the biomedical area and was engaged in direct combat with Stern's team. Her cloaking ability caught the Black Hawk agents off guard, while Marcus was fighting a third Black Hawk team in other parts of the base, his energy barrier effectively withstanding enemy fire.
At the height of the battle, a shocking scene appeared on the monitoring screen: a remote communication signal suddenly appeared, followed by an image of Dr. Banner broadcasting to all the display screens in the base.
“This is a public condemnation of Black Hawk International,” Banner’s voice was calm and resolute. “Your ‘Emerald Fist’ program has been fully exposed, including illegal human experimentation and infiltration of the government. All of this has been documented and sent to major media outlets and law enforcement agencies. The game is over, Stern.”
Stern's expression turned grim and furious, clearly realizing they had fallen into an elaborate trap. He ordered an emergency evacuation, but it was too late. All exits of the base were sealed off, and military reinforcements were already arriving in the surrounding area.
Inside the command center, Lynn, Henderson, and Colonel Roderick had successfully subdued the infiltrating Black Hawk agents. Lynn quickly regained control of the communications system and contacted the external team.
"Gwen, status report!"
“Everything is going according to plan,” Gwen’s voice came through, sounding both tense and excited. “Banner’s broadcast is going live nationwide, and all the evidence has been sent to its intended recipients. Erin and Marcus are dealing with Black Hawk’s enhanced agents, but they have the upper hand.”
On the monitors, the battle in the biomedical zone was escalating. Eileen was effectively disrupting the Black Hawk team using her cloaking abilities, but the two enhanced agents were displaying astonishing adaptability. The large, grey-skinned man seemed to possess some kind of superhuman strength and durability, while the female agent was able to generate and manipulate energy beams.
Marcus has joined Erin, and his energy barrier has successfully protected them from energy attacks, but the battle remains fierce.
“They need backup,” Lynn told Henderson. “Those two enhanced agents are too powerful.”
Henderson nodded. "But our conventional weapons have limited effectiveness against them. We need to."
His words were interrupted by a new image on the monitor screen. At the main entrance of the base, a familiar green figure appeared. Dr. Banner, or more accurately, the Hulk, was striding into the base. But unlike before, his movements did not appear to be unconscious, angry destruction, but rather purposeful and controlled.
“He’s here,” Lynn said softly, a sense of awe washing over him. “And he’s in control.”
On the monitor screen, the Hulk moved directly towards the biomedical zone, with Black Hawk agents along the way attempting to stop him, but to no avail. The balance of the battle shifted immediately when he reached the area where Erin and Marcus were fighting enhanced agents.
Instead of blindly attacking everyone, the Hulk accurately identified Black Hawk's enhanced agents and launched targeted attacks. The grey-skinned giant attempted to confront the Hulk head-on but quickly found himself outmatched. The female energy agent's attacks had some effect on the Hulk, but couldn't stop his advance.
Stern, seeing the situation completely out of control, attempted to use the chaos to escape. But Eileen had already noticed his intentions and quickly went into stealth mode to give chase. As Stern approached a possible exit, Eileen suddenly appeared in front of him, and a precise strike threw him off balance.
“Richard Stern,” Eileen said calmly, “you have been arrested for trespassing on a military facility, conducting unauthorized human experiments, and numerous other offenses that will soon be listed.”
In other areas, Black Hawk's agent teams, facing combined military reinforcements and Project X agents, began to lay down their weapons and surrender. The fighting quickly ended, and Black Hawk's incursion was completely halted.
Inside the command center, Lynn, Henderson, and Colonel Roderick breathed a sigh of relief and exchanged victorious glances.
“We succeeded,” Chief Henderson said, his voice filled with disbelief and satisfaction. “Black Hawk was caught red-handed; the evidence is irrefutable and cannot be covered up.”
Colonel Roderick nodded. "And during a breach of a military facility, this will trigger a top-level national security investigation, and no politician would dare publicly defend them."
Lynn walked to the communications console and contacted Gwen. "Mission accomplished. Black Hawk has been captured, including Stern himself. All evidence has been safely stored and distributed."
Gwen's voice sounded almost tearful with joy. "Well done! The news has started reporting it, and social media is flooded with news of the Black Hawk's intrusion into the military base and Banner's statement. There's also a reaction within the government; several known Black Hawk supporters have suddenly become very quiet or started publicly distancing themselves from them."
Lynn smiled. "Then our plan has succeeded. Now it's time to ensure the safe transport of all those arrested and begin sorting through the evidence to prepare formal charges."
He glanced at the monitor screen. The Hulk had subdued two enhanced agents, but without inflicting fatal damage. Instead, he stood there, breathing evenly, a clear mind shining in his eyes. This was no longer a monster driven purely by rage, but a conscious, purposeful being. "Banner did it," Lynn said softly. "He truly managed to coexist peacefully with the Hulk."
Over the next few hours, the base transformed into a bustling command center. The military and the FBI worked together to handle the captured Black Hawk personnel, notably Stern and two enhanced agents, who were placed in special control facilities.
Banner had regained his human form, and although exhausted, he was in high spirits. He was in a quiet conference room with Lynn, Henderson, and Dr. Morgan, discussing what had just happened.
“That was…a completely different experience,” Banner said, his voice carrying a new calm. “I was fully aware of what was happening, able to make decisions, and control the power. Not perfect control, but much better than before.”
Dr. Morgan nodded. "This is precisely the effect we hope to achieve through consciousness fusion therapy. Not to suppress the Hulk, but to understand and cooperate with him, merging the two consciousnesses into one."
Director Henderson looked both surprised and impressed. “This is an incredible advancement, Dr. Banner. Considering the potential of this control, and the impact it would have on your personal life, this could change everything.”
Banner smiled, a genuine and relieved smile. "Yes, it feels like a new beginning. For years, I've seen the Hulk as a curse that needs to be suppressed. Now I'm beginning to understand that he's a part of me, a part with protective instincts and strength."
Lynn looked out the window; military helicopters were landing, and more officials and investigators were arriving at the scene. "It seems this has attracted significant attention in Washington. I believe there will be a lot of hearings and investigations in the coming days."
Director Henderson nodded. “Indeed. The scope of Black Hawk’s influence and the details of Operation Emerald Fist will be thoroughly investigated. Several high-ranking government officials may face serious charges, particularly those directly involved in covering up or funding these activities.”
Gwen and Ethan joined the discussion via video link. “Media coverage continues to heat up,” Gwen reported. “Major news networks are live-streaming the developments. Discussions on social media have made hashtags like ‘Black Hawk’ and ‘The Hulk Truth’ trending globally. The public reaction is very strong; most people are shocked and outraged by Black Hawk’s actions.”
Ethan added, “More importantly, those who previously held negative views of the Hulk are reassessing their stance. Dr. Banner’s statement and today’s actions demonstrate a different narrative—that the Hulk is not a mindless destroyer, but a being capable of protection and assistance.”
Banner seemed deeply moved by the news. "It means a lot. For years, I've been seen as a monster, hunted, and misunderstood. Knowing that people might start to see a different side of me is a relief."
Lynn placed a hand on Banner's shoulder. "You've never been a monster, Doctor. You're someone who perseveres in extremely difficult circumstances. And today, you've helped us end a real threat."
Three days later, in Washington, D.C., a special congressional hearing was underway. The chamber was packed, with reporters filling the designated area and cameras flashing incessantly.
Lynn, Chief Henderson, Dr. Banner, and Dr. Morgan sat in the witness stand, having already given hours of testimony and evidence. Opposite them stood a row of members of Congress, their expressions ranging from shock to anger.
“Based on the evidence you have provided,” Senator Wilson, who chaired the hearing, said sternly, “Black Hawk International not only conducted unauthorized human experiments, but also used government funds and facilities to carry them out, while actively hunting down and controlling mutants and Dr. Banner.” He paused, examining the documents before him, “Furthermore, they also armed a U.S. military base in an attempt to obtain technology and information related to Dr. Banner. These allegations are extremely serious, involving the highest levels of national security.”
The atmosphere in the hearing room was heavy. At one side of the long table sat Lynn, Chief of Staff Henderson, Dr. Banner, and Dr. Morgan, their faces piled high with documents and evidence. Opposite them sat a row of members of Congress with varying expressions—some genuinely shocked, some uneasy, and a few almost indifferent, as if desperately trying to conceal some emotion.
“Yes, Senator,” Director Henderson replied, his voice firm and clear, “the evidence we have presented is irrefutable. This includes video footage of Black Hawk senior officers personally directing armed incursions into military facilities, detailed documents documenting their human experiments, and records of clandestine communications between them and certain government officials who provided Black Hawk with protection and resources.”
An older congresswoman, Ms. Robertson, leaned forward, her expression serious. “Chief Henderson, you mentioned the involvement of government officials. Could you elaborate on the identities and positions of these officials?”
Director Henderson glanced at Lynn, then replied, “Based on the evidence we have, these officials are spread across multiple departments, including the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, and even—” He paused, “Congress itself.”
A murmur of surprise immediately broke out in the meeting room. Lynn noticed that several members of Congress across the table had turned noticeably pale, and one of them—Member Robert Clark—was constantly glancing at his watch, appearing unusually uneasy.
Senator Wilson tapped on the table to restore order. "Please be specific, Director Henderson. These allegations are very serious and require concrete evidence."
Director Henderson nodded and opened a folder. “We have email correspondence, encrypted communication records, and bank transfer records. These documents show that at least six senior officials actively assisted Black Hawk in covering their activities over the past five years, providing government resources and even helping them evade investigation. Some of these officials were involved to a degree that could be considered treason.”
Representative Clark abruptly interrupted, his voice several octaves higher than usual, “These are all speculations and exaggerations! There is no concrete evidence that any member of Congress was involved in this so-called conspiracy. This sounds more like a political persecution, an attempt to distract the public from other important issues!”
Lynn watched Clark, observing his agitated emotions and defensive language. In preparing for the hearing, they had identified Clark as one of Blackhawk's most important congressional contacts, but now his reaction was practically a confession.
Dr. Banner, who had remained silent until now, cleared his throat slightly. All eyes immediately turned to him—the man once considered a dangerous "monster," now sitting calmly at the congressional hearing.
“Members of Congress,” Banner began, his voice calm yet firm, “I understand the gravity and political sensitivity of these allegations. But as a direct target of Black Hawk’s ‘Emerald Fist’ program, I have firsthand witness to their cruelty and immorality. They not only hunted me for years, but also used the data obtained from me to experiment on innocent people, causing unimaginable suffering and death.” (End of Chapter)
