Chapter 301 The battle is about to end.
"Mark!" Lynn shouted, a flash of anger in his eyes. He quickly turned and rushed forward, trying to pull the mutant away from Mark, but the mutant was too powerful and moved extremely fast, and Lynn could hardly get close.
Mark struggled desperately to break free from the mutant's grip, but his powerful hands were almost completely immobile. The mutant growled, preparing to subdue Mark completely. In a split second, Lynn made a decision. He swiftly drew a spare stun gun from his waist and slammed it into the mutant's back.
"Die!" Lynn growled in a low voice, a powerful electric current instantly passing through the mutant's body, jolting it back several steps, causing it to groan in pain. The current didn't completely knock it down, but it clearly had some effect on its body.
The mutant staggered to its feet, glaring at Lynn with eyes filled with ferocity and savagery. Its eyes turned blood red, emitting a chilling growl before it suddenly lunged at Lynn. Lynn barely had time to react before the mutant was upon him. He dodged with all his might, but was still struck by one of its claws, blood spurting out instantly, the pain nearly knocking him unconscious.
"Quick! Lynn!" Mark shouted, struggling to his feet. Seeing Lynn injured, his heart filled with anxiety. "Let him go!"
Lynn gritted his teeth, enduring the excruciating pain, and leaped away, dodging the mutant's next attack. He already sensed that he and Mark were facing not just an individual battle, but a struggle deeply connected to the Obsidian Corporation. This war was no longer a simple pursuit, but a life-or-death struggle between humans and non-humans.
“You won’t win, Scott!” Lynn whispered, though he felt pain and exhaustion, he knew that only by persevering to the very end could he win this fight.
The mutant let out another low growl and lunged at Lynn, but just as he reached him, Mark pounced from behind, shoving the mutant away with all his might and throwing him to the ground. Lynn seized the opportunity to quickly get up, preparing to continue his attack.
Despite his injuries, Mark didn't give up. He picked up a fallen steel pipe from the ground and quickly attacked the mutant. The pipe slammed into the mutant's back with a dull thud. The mutant struggled violently, but the impact clearly caused it to hesitate slightly; although its skin was tough, it could still feel some pain.
Without further hesitation, Lynn swiftly retrieved a small explosive device from his backpack, pressed the switch, and threw it at the mutant. The device detonated rapidly, and flames and smoke instantly filled the air. The mutant was blasted back several steps; although it wasn't completely destroyed, it still caused considerable damage.
The mutant roared furiously, seemingly enraged beyond measure. It lunged again, preparing for a final blow. However, this time, Lynn gave it no chance. He calmly pulled out his last grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it.
"Die!" Lynn shouted. As the grenade exploded, sparks flew, and the air instantly filled with thick smoke and debris. The mutant was struck by the powerful shockwave and slammed violently against the wall, collapsing to the ground instantly.
Lynn was panting heavily, his body almost completely drained of strength, but he didn't stop. He walked towards the fallen mutant, his gaze grave. Although it had been temporarily defeated, he knew that Scott would definitely have backup mutants. The Obsidian Corporation's conspiracy was far more complex than he had imagined, and today's battle might only be the beginning.
“We can’t stop,” Lynn said softly, turning to walk toward Mark. “Scott is still on the run, we can’t give him any chance.”
Mark took a deep breath, wiped the blood from his face, and a determined look appeared in his eyes. "That's right, we'll keep chasing. Scott won't let us off easily."
Without wasting any more time, the two picked up their weapons again and quickly left the scene to continue tracking Scott's whereabouts.
the other side.
Scott sat in his dimly lit office, the telephone receiver gripped tightly in his hand, a glint of anger in his eyes. Despite having deployed his own mutant creations in an attempt to eliminate Lynn and Mark completely with this attack, the result was far beyond his expectations—the mutants were easily defeated! The "weapon" he had created had failed to perform as intended, instead being overwhelmed by Lynn's reflexes and adaptability, and was instantly destroyed.
"Damn it... how could they be so strong!" Scott gritted his teeth, glaring at the mountain of documents piled on his desk. He couldn't bear this defeat; all his efforts seemed to have been mercilessly wiped out in that fierce battle. He understood that this wasn't just a simple fight, but a crucial moment that determined his future.
“If I’m going to win this fight, I need more power.” Scott’s gaze hardened. He turned and picked up the phone on the table, dialing the number again.
The voice on the other end of the phone was that of the ever-calm, icy superior.
"Scott, what happened? I heard your mutants didn't complete the mission?"
Scott took a deep breath, trying to calm himself and remain rational. "Yes, the mission failed. But it wasn't my fault. The mutants didn't fully adapt to the serum, and Lynn and Mark's performance exceeded my expectations. I need a new serum, a newer, more powerful formula, to ensure the success of this mission."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a cold reply: "You've got enough resources, stop wasting your time. If you can't do it, then give up."
Scott's face instantly darkened. He gritted his teeth, barely suppressing his anger. "You're right, I've obtained enough resources, but that's not all. I want more—a new serum that will grant my mutants superhuman powers, allowing them to utterly defeat Lynn!"
"Enough, Scott, who do you think you are? You've taken so many resources and still failed, and now you want even more potions? It's ridiculous!" The superior's voice grew even colder. "If you keep causing trouble, I can't guarantee what will happen to you."
Scott was on the verge of exploding with rage. He slammed the phone down and threw it on the table in a fit of anger. At that moment, he was filled with humiliation and resentment, and he could no longer tolerate his superior's threats and indifference.
“No matter what you say, I won’t give up!” Scott growled in a low voice, his gaze hardening. “I want my own victory, no matter the cost.” He was urgently considering his next move. Clearly, his superiors wouldn’t give him any more support; he had to solve everything himself. Scott knew he had to do it himself, and the best way was to personally enter the laboratory and obtain the potion he so desperately wanted.
Scott made a swift decision and took his first steps toward the underground laboratory. This laboratory was the most secretive place within the Obsidian Corporation, storing a vast amount of research data and drugs related to mutants. Scott had high-level access to the laboratory, but due to surveillance and restrictions from his superiors, he hadn't personally entered it for a long time.
"Let's do it tonight," he muttered to himself. After quickly preparing everything, he quietly left the office and headed towards the laboratory.
As night deepened, Scott trudged through the long corridor, carefully avoiding the guards and bypassing the security system's surveillance area. Although these security measures had once bothered him, he was now accustomed to this method and proceeded with extreme caution at every step.
He stopped in front of the underground laboratory, took a deep breath, aimed at a blind spot in the nearby surveillance cameras, quickly pulled out a small tool, and began to crack the laboratory's electronic door lock. The lock's combination system was complex and secure, but Scott didn't have much time to waste. He constantly adjusted the tool in his hand, gradually bypassing the system's protection.
"Click." The lock turned, and the laboratory door was finally opened.
Scott quietly entered the laboratory. Silence reigned, the surrounding equipment and instruments flashing a faint red light, and a pungent medicinal smell filled the air. His gaze swept across the lab, searching for the drugs he desperately needed—the new formula that could enhance mutants' powers.
He walked down the laboratory corridor, past several storage rooms, and finally arrived at the cold storage area where the medicines were stored. Scott stopped, his eyes fixed on the cold storage door. Above the door was a row of keypads, directly linked to the medicine storage system. Scott lightly touched the control panel next to it, quickly entered a familiar password, and a few seconds later, the door opened.
"Finally here." Scott felt a surge of relief. He pushed open the door and went inside. Several bottles of the new formula were neatly arranged on the refrigerated shelf in front of him. Each bottle emitted a faint blue glow, and the labels on the bottles showed some complex chemical ingredients. Scott's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
He walked to a vial of serum, gently picked it up, and examined the liquid inside. This formula was specifically designed for mutants, capable of stimulating genetic mutations and physical enhancements more quickly. Scott knew this serum would be key to his upcoming battle.
However, just as Scott was about to take the medicine, he suddenly heard a series of hurried footsteps. Scott's expression changed slightly, and he immediately glanced at his watch. It was past the usual shift change time, so the lab patrol team hadn't changed shifts as usual.
"Damn it!" Scott cursed under his breath. He quickly stuffed the vial into his backpack and turned to leave. However, the footsteps grew closer, and as several figures came into view, Scott realized he had been discovered.
"Stop! Who's there?" a middle-aged man suddenly shouted, raising his gun and pointing it at Scott's location.
Scott's heart skipped a beat. He barely had time to think; he immediately turned and ran towards the exit at the back of the laboratory. He knew that if he were caught by these people, all his plans would be ruined, and that vial of medicine was his only hope.
"You can't escape!" The pursuers were close behind, their footsteps drawing ever closer.
Scott gritted his teeth, glanced back, and a ruthless glint flashed in his eyes. He knew he didn't have much time; once caught, all his efforts would be in vain. Footsteps drew closer, Scott's heart pounded, and he sprinted towards the exit with all his might.
Just then, he suddenly spotted a door leading to the back alley. Without hesitation, Scott rushed over, almost using all his strength to smash the door open, and dashed into the alley, disappearing into the night.
Before the pursuers even reached the door, Scott had already disappeared into the dim night.
Not long after.
Scott entered the underground boxing ring. Dim lighting illuminated the space, and the air was thick with the smell of blood and sweat. The walls were cracked and worn from years of fighting, and the paint had peeled off, revealing gray concrete underneath. The seats were surrounded by rough railings, looking rudimentary and primitive. On the other side of the ring, several spectators were cheering for the upcoming fight, while the battle in the ring raged on.
Scott stood silently at the entrance, observing the underground boxing ring. In the center of the ring, a bearded, muscular boxer was fiercely battling his opponent. Both were drenched in sweat, and the sounds of their punches echoed throughout the arena. Scott's eyes were fixed on them, his face expressionless, but his mind was engaged in complex calculations.
“These people, though strong, are just ordinary people,” Scott muttered to himself. His gaze swept over each participant on the field. All of them were physically robust, their skin covered with rough scars and wounds, and their eyes gleamed with a cold, wolf-like light. He knew that this place was full of potential subjects who could become mutant test subjects.
What Scott needed was an extremely strong person capable of withstanding the drug's modifications. This person needed not only physical strength but also an unwavering will to survive and an extreme level of self-healing. Only such a person could maximize the drug's effects and withstand the drastic changes it brought about.
“This competition should be able to select a suitable person.” Scott nodded slightly; he had already decided to select a suitable test subject today.
Just then, the fight in the ring suddenly intensified. The muscular boxer swung a powerful right hook, striking his opponent squarely in the chin. The opponent instantly lost his balance, staggering back several steps, almost falling to the ground. A murmur rippled through the stands; everyone seemed to know the match was about to be decided.
Scott's eyes flashed with a cold light as he walked to the edge of the arena, slowly pushing through the crowd. Just as he approached, the boxer who had been hit struggled to his feet, his eyes filled with rage, like a provoked beast, and launched a swift counterattack, unleashing a fierce barrage of attacks.
